Q1                In the days of miners having towalk long distances
underground to get to their working areas, what did they doabout going to the
toilet?

A1                 Kevin Liu UpdatedApril 21 Reads and watches both Anime and
Manga

The floor.1800s specifically. Fortoilet use.

With mass amount of immigrants flooding into every other country to
seekopportunity. Mining was the first job choice during industrial
revolutionaryperiod, due to the rising growth of cities and towns.

Standard also meant nothing during this period.

Mining coal underneath a metric ton of stone that could crumble at anygiven
moment was held by a single tree log that bore  the weight of the miners lives.

>From the books a single mining tunnel could go on for a mile, so walkingback
>to use the restroom(if they even had porta potties) would have burstedtheir
>bladders by then. Therelikely were several paths within the tunnel created in
>search for findingmineral veins, and spring waters. And any paths that were
>not used to mine were likely usedas a relief station and that is how the
>miners back in the day mined withdignity.

And since there were a common occurance of methane hiding within therocks, the
miners would definitely avoid doing their business anywhere neartheir working
area. Becauseif the stench overpowered the gases and had not been noticed, one
strike of apickaxe would ignite a super heated explosion which would cave inthe
entire surface and crush anything within the tunnels

Q2         What are the life lessons to be learnedfrom the character of Ravana
in the epic Ramayana?

A2          Anil Menon TueComputerscientist, editor, writer

Don’t lust after other people’s spouses.

Advise your siblings not to lust after other people’s spouses.

Don’t pick quarrels withincarnations of gods.

Chances are the biggest betrayals will come from within the family.

Don’t wait for the enemy tocome to you. Take the battle to the enemy.

Don’t march off the battlefield assuming you’ve killed someone. Doubletap. Make
sure.

If you have a flying craft, use it for surveillance, not just pleasuretrips.
Even better, build an air force.

All the learning in the world is no substitute for common sense.

Make sure you get to tell your side of the story.

Q3         When was hydrogen first used?

A3          Girija Devi, Asst ExeEngineer Civil at Kerala State Electricity
Board (1994-present) Answered 38mago

Hydrogen was discovered by theEnglish physicist Henry Cavendish in 1766.

Scientists had been producing hydrogen for years before it was recognizedas an
element.

Written records indicate that Robert Boyle produced hydrogen gas as earlyas
1671 while experimenting with iron and acids.

The low density of hydrogenmade it a natural choice for one of its first
practical uses – filling balloonsand airships.

However, it reacts vigorously with oxygen (to form water) and its futurein
filling airships ended when the Hindenburg airship caught fire. Hydrogen is an
essential elementfor life.

Q4         Do Greeks eat rice often?

A4          Giota Detsi April 24 foodenthousiast

Yes, we do but in a different way from the Asian peoples:

Rice is scarcely the protagonist in Greek dishes and there are reasonsfor this!

In old, traditional Greekcuisine, there is an ingredient similar to rice:
Groats.

Rice is much easier to cook (groats needs soaking in water for longbefore
cooking) and although less tasty replaced it in dishes like: lahanodolmades

(Here is the same dish made with groats)Or stuffed vegetables and more, like
soups, as a side dish, etc.

Groats, in the meantime, is notcompletely abandoned, it is still in
use, especially on occasions where tradition is powerful, like folkfestivities
(meat with groats is offered to the participants) or to honor the dead (we
offer to asmany we can kolyva, a groats’ dish of ancient origin with nuts,
pomegranateseeds, and spices).

This is a dish with groats:and kolyva:

Q5         What are some interesting businessmodels?

A5          R.K. Shwetabh UpdatedTue Pediatric Specialist at Government of
Odisha (2020–present)

These types of Medicine storewith Doctor, you would have definitely seen : (A
medical shopwith a doctor visting time there)

Have you ever thought about its business model.

If you observe there are two visible partners here-Doctor and medicine shop
owner, butthere is one invisiblepartner-Local pharma company (in maximum cases).

Suppose there is a doctor who works somewhere and is having some offday/free
time in evening and thus wants to do practise. As it is bit tough tofind
patients for a limited amount of time/certain day in a city, so bestoption is
to practise at aplace where there is scarcity of doctors. So, one of the local
pharma companieswill tell sir,we will find a place for you where you can go to
oneday/week or for certain time daily.

Medical stores are present ineach and every nook and corner of country and
generally they keep extraspace/chamber where doctor can sit, so the mediator
work is done by pharma company . Since ,local pharmacompanies are contact with
them as they provide medicines ,so they will ask the medicine storethat from
next week they will arrange one doctor who will come on certain day/time.
Generally such stores are chosen far from main city, in bitinteriors where
there are no doctors(about 40–50 km from main city).Medicinestores have
generally no issues as it will give them extra income.

So, stage is set.

The medicine store owner will put the board of doctors name, will advertise
through phamplets in local newspaper or in auto rickshaw.

The doctor will come on the specified date /time and see the patients. Remember
one thing ,doctor have”not to pay any rent” to the medicine store owner for
using his chamber.

Pharma company will bear the costof transportation, accomodation (if required)
and food of doctor for whichdoctor will write medicines from that particular
company only.

So, see the model-medicine store owner is happy as medicines will be soldand he
will get consolidated customers in one go (as in 99% of cases a personwill buy
medicine from that store only where doctor is sitting),doctor is happyas he
will be getting his consultation fee and his free day will be utilisedand
pharma company is also happy as the medicines of their company are beingsold.

This is one of the interestingbusiness model which is running successfully in
all peripheral part of country.

Q8         How do I have an easy life?

A8          Anshu Bharti Mon IncidentManager (2020–present)

Learn to accept life however itcomes. It will become easy.

Years ago, I was travelling with my brother in law by train. We didn'tget the
reservation, sowe got on a local train.

I am not used to the crowd(even not my brother in law) and also, was quite
uncomfortable in that train as it stopped at every small station. The
threehours journey seemed too long.

I was being restless. On the other hand, my brother in law was cool,
fullyoccupied with reading the newspaper. This irked me more.

When I shared my frustration with him, he smiled and told me to take this
journey as anopportunity to have a good, long sleep.

And to my surprise, after a few minutes, he dozed off. Throughout thejourney,
he was either sleeping or reading the newspaper.

That day, I realized life is tough but we make it tougher by notaccepting it.
We overthink,panic and feel dismayed.

The day you will learn to find an opportunity even in miseries, lifewould be
easier for you. Nomatter how bad the circumstances are, you will have something
beautiful aroundyou. You just need to have the ability to see that beauty.Stay
Calm!

Q9         Is it right to say that money is asolution to everything?

A9          Krishna Suryakanth MonHavean experience of 30 years

I used to sit next to a security guard of an ICU in a popular hospital.

Why? My father was seriously ill and was admitted to ICU, where he stayedfor
more than a month.

Like I said in previous answers, I observe people and it has now become ahabit.
Normally, we know that body language and attitude of people belonging
todifferent class is different.

However, In front of ICU, thestory is different.

A lady wearing nearly half kg gold was weeping and rushing towards ICUalong
with a few people and a young man on the strecher. I felt a function wasgoing
on and something unfortunate happened to the son of the lady. Or else who wears
half kg goldand comes to hospital?

There was other case, where 30 to 40 people were standing outside ICU,most of
them were wearing white and white clothes and were enquiring doctors. I felt a
powerful politican isadmitted to the ICU.

Also, I saw poor people, who could afford ICU only because of BPL rationcard
and I could affordICU because my father had insurance.

There was no difference between me, the rich lady, the white and whitepeople
and the people below poverty line. All of them were helpless. Money,
power, popularity and pretty much everything was meaningless in front of ICU. We
amwere waiting for our loved ones to come out of danger. We all were same.

Next time when someone says, I never bow down in front of anything oranyone,
bring him to ICU. I saw everyone bowing down in front of ICU.Money is not a
solution foreverything.
