Q1         Whichis the only river in India that never reaches the sea?

A1          Shobha Upare Updated 22hago

A river is simply defined as a stream of natural water. River is formedfrom
lakes, springs or ice-covered regions. Many small freshwater springs come
togetherto form a river, which flows towards the sea. All the rivers in India
flow into the sea to the east orwest, but there is one river in India that does
not meet any sea.

How do you say this is possible? If the river carrying so much water doesnot
reach the sea, then where does so much water go?

Luni River! Originating in the Naga Mountains of the Aravali Range in theAjmer
District of Rajasthan, this river flows neither into the sea nor into any river.

The river flows through Ajmerdistrict, enters the Kutch district of Gujarat
from the south-western part ofRajasthan, and aftertraveling 495 km, the river
disappears into the Kutch desert.

In either Rajasthan, the Luni River has less water due to low rainfall,so the
river does not flow. Also, as most of Rajasthan is desert, waterevaporates on a
large scale. As you enter the Kutch desert, the river bed widens and gradually
theriver bed merges into the desert. Therefore, this river ends here.

Q2         DoHindus outside of the Balinese Hindu tradition still venerate
Indra in anycapacity?

A2          Rami Sivan Priest,Dharma teacher, counsellor, Gov. Advisor
(1998–present)Fri

In every fire-ceremony (havan, homa, yajña) offerings of ghee are made to Indra.

In South India there is a major purification and empowerment ritual knownas
UDAKA SHANTIin which dozens ofhymns are chanted over about 2 hours invoking the
blessings of Lord Indra.

In most elaborate pūjā ceremonies like at marriages, he is invoked along with
hiswife Sachi as the head of the 8 guardian deities of the
directions(dik-palakas), and during Agamic temple consecrations and festivalshe
is always worshiped and offerings are made in the eastern side of thetemple.

So he is still very much alive, well and happily enjoying offerings ofghee and
praises.

My note- I am really very happy to read the answer by awesterner in so much
detail about Udakasanthi and invoking Indra during marriage.

Q3         Isbecoming a doctor worth it in India?

A3          Dev Kumar Former TeacherFri

My aunt from Canada called me yesterday because her daughter had
gastricproblems for 3 months.

When I asked for reports, surprisingly they have neither any reports norany
prescription from doctor. Everything is digitalised and no copy was given to
patient.

Patients have no access to documents. Only doctors have the access.

She lost 10 pounds weight and loss of appetite too. Long waiting for USGtesting
in govt sector.

They got an USG abdomen done frompvt lab for 800 dollars. Yes that's right 800
dollars. Keep calculating.

I asked my aunt why she haven't seen a Gastroenterologist for herdaughter. Her
reply completely shocked me.She said that the appointmentavailable is in year
2022 even if she book it today.

Yes my cousin was in pain for 3 months and she couldn't see the doctorthis
year. And you just can't go and see to a specialist doctor without areferral.

Imagine if you want to see an Ortho, MD medicine, derma, neuro, onco
orwhatever, you first have to take a referral from an MBBS doctor every time.
IfMBBS doc say No, then you can't get an appointment.

Yes health system is free inWest, but at what cost?

No matter if you can afford the fees or not, you have to wait for monthsto see
a doctor.

Most of the Indian patients call doctors anytime if they are in pain.

But in these developed countries, patient just keep suffering. Now myaunt is
planning to travel to USA for her treatment (yes USA is costly, butmoney is no
bar)

She told me that people living inIndia are very lucky & she feel jealous
because Indians not only get theappointment of specialists same day but can
always get2nd opinion.

Yes society has generalised this noble profession, but no one can denythe fact
that the hardwork and selfless services of Indian doctors is like aventilator
on which the broken health system of our country breathes

If you shut them down, health system will collapse.

You have to live outside India to know the worth of Doctors of India.

My note- I got vaccination adviceon phone from  my nephrologist for Covid19.

Q4         Couldthere still be mammals unknown to science due to them being
very reclusive?

A4          Claire JordanWorked atNational Health Service (NHS) Fri

Oh, definitely - even quite large ones. We only found the saola, a Vietnamese
bovine the sizeof a Jersey cow, in the 1990s, and the Bosavi woolly rat, which
isthe size of a house cat, was discovered in New Guinea in 2009.

The rat isn’t even reclusive - it’s quite chummy - it just lives in
aninaccessible volcanic crater.

Q5         Howdo you describe someone who is dedicated?

A5          Ramya Annadurai KnowsEnglish Thu

It’s definitely my Mom.After the demise of her brothers, she started hercareer
and got married.

She had completed “32 years as a career-oriented woman” despite of allthe
troubles at the workplace and at home.

Mom is retired now.Still, she manages to wake up by 5 AM and cook for usall.Mom
never failed fromher duties despite of her illness and ageing issues.

More than dedication, she is devoted to our family.Mom is my pillar oflife.
Proud to be her daughter always.

Q6         Whatadvantages does the profession of a doctor have over other
professions?

A6          Tiny Nair Cardiologistat PRS Hospital, TrivandrumSun

Show me another profession where someone double your age would hold yourhand
requesting you to do your best to save his sons life, as you enter theoperating
room. Or a daughter waiting hours outside the ICCU for a miracle tohappen to
her mom and you are the angel messenger?

Have anyone else in any otherprofession felt the sigh of relief of a mom
bringing her kid with an epileptic fit tothe ER; relieved instantly by an
injection? Or the breathless old man with an heart attack; angioplasty done,
smileback at you next morning?

In which other profession couldyou scold an elderly gentleman for secretly
smoking cigarettes, while his wifesmilingly approve of it?

Despite all the doctor bashing and mud slinging; there is no job likewhat we
do. Most frictionsoccur because people overestimate our capabilities, wrongly,
to god like levels;not the other way round.

The nurse (doctor to my mom) who delivered me called me ‘Tiny’, because I was
extremelypremature; she thought I won’t make it. But with her care I did.
Thename stuck, as well as my emotional bias supporting the doctors. So excuse
mefor being one-sided here.

I believe that the ability to relieve pain, the power to alleviate
bodilysuffering, is relegated to just a chosen few, in one rare profession.

All of us should feel blessed& thankful to be one of these elite professionals.

Unfortunately, many don’t.

Q7         What is likely to occurwhen glucose levels fall too low?

A7          Subash P G, MedicalBusiness (2019-present) Answered Wed

Hypoglycemia occurs when yourblood sugar (glucose) level falls too low. There
are several reasons why this can happen; the most common is a sideeffect of
drugs used to treat diabetes.

Other Words….

When blood sugar levels fall toolow, the body releases the hormone adrenaline,
which helps get stored glucoseinto the bloodstream quickly. This can make
someone: pale. sweaty.

My note- What I felt is some sortof uneasiness, tirednessand shivering when
Hypoglycemia occur. I immediatelyeat biscuits with water. I keep biscuits,
sugar and water handy. Sometimes it occur when food intake is not liked and
less food isconsumed by me.

Q8         If the world is so big, then why do Hindus believe that only the
Indian subcontinent is holy and theirdeities came only there?

A8          Ranjiv Kurup Author onHistory and Philosophy of the Hindu May 13

India was much of the known world even as late as the Ramayana era. Rama and
Hanuman are deities notjust in India but across the world to places as distant
as Mexico and SouthAmerica. Here’s a picture of a trishula planted in a
havankund, orwhat was known as the eastern boundary marker of India during the
Ramayana era.

Any guess where it is? It is in the Peruvian Andes.

Here’s a rock carving somewhere in Mesopotamia (modern day Iraq) of Ramaand
Hanuman.

Q9         I don't believe in God,but I believe that there is a higher power
that's only watching and notinterfering in our lives. Can it be true?

A9          Murari Das Spent all myadult life studying God. Thu

Krishna is very clear in Bhagavad Gita that although He is watching everything
He doesn’tinterfere in people’s lives, He remains neutral.

We live under the rule of thematerial energy which is dispassionate in how it
deals with humans. Thisuniverse is for us, not Him, and although He appears and
gives instructions,it’s a personal choice whether to follow them or not.

O Dhananjaya, all this work cannot bind Me. I am ever detached from allthese
material activities, seated as though neutral. Bg 9.9

This material nature, which is one of My energies, is working under
Mydirection, O son of Kunti, producing all moving and non-moving beings.
Underits rule this manifestation is created and annihilated again and again. Bg
9.10

Only if invited properly willthe Lord become personally involved with His
devotee’s life. For those who don’t believe He exists, He’s okaywith that. He’s
made trillions of universes where unlimited living entities canlive separately
from Him, doing whatever they want. Not an issue. But He leaves the door open
forthose curious to understand what they can about Him - if they makethat
choice.

Q10          In the Ramayana, how did Lord Rama know whether the year had passed
or not?

A10        Thiru ER, Lawyer(Karnataka Bar) since 2000. Website:

I think common sense is the key. Even ants know that rainy season/winter is
aboutto come and start collating food enough to last for months. So common
sensetells us that there are at least three seasons - summer, rainy, winter,
andwhen summer comes twice, a year has passed. Was that difficult?

Q11       Which is closer toBangalore, the Arabian Sea or the Bay of Bengal?

A11        Ashank D'souza  Lives in Bengaluru, Karnataka, India UpdatedSun

Lets consider two distances: Bangalore to Mangalore and Bangalore toChennai.
Since these three cities lie roughly on a straight line we can measurewhether
Bangalore is close to Chennai or to Mangalore.

Mangalore to Bangalore distance is 299.93 km.

Bangalore to Chennai distance is 317.73km. EDIT: (Actually I missmeasured it
should be around the same as Mangalore-Bangalore at around 300km).

Winner is Bangalore to Mangalorewith 299.93 kms.

However practically speakingthis is not so. Why? The Western Ghats of course!
These Ghats make the journey from and to Mangalore from Bangalorevery long. You
willhave to travel long winding roads which were carved on the mountains. On the
other hand Bangalore to Chennai is pretty straightforward. Moreover
thegovernments in Karnataka never cared to take make proper roads and
haveprivatised highways. TamilNadu has good roads(TN physical infrastructure is
better compared to KA).

Q12       Can you make me smile? I'mgoing through hard times.

A12        Once late at night, dueto a long electricity cut which deactivated
our inverter, I was upset andunable to sleep, I decided to go on a drive.

Temporarily enjoying the luxuryof the air-conditioning in the car, I saw two
kids playing with a piece ofstone on a side pavement.

Nearby was a tiny, torn, dirty, tent-like structure where their parentswere
sitting.

No fan, no comfort from the scorching heat, barefoot, and most probablynot
enough food as well.

Still, the kids were joyful.Whenever you face tough times, look at kids.

No matter how sick, financially poor, or how much mess their life is, kids
always manage to play, tosmile, to enjoy the present moment, even if all they
have is a piece of stone.

Why? Because they don't think beyond the luxuries of the present moment.

Even a piece of stone is sufficient enough to engage them. They don'tfocus
themselves on miseries, they focus attention on any opportunity to playin the
current moment. They don't think about the future, they don't keep cryingabout
the past. They forget and forgive, and get back playing.

Do they do something great to achieve that happy state? No, they justlead a
simple life.

And then, slowly, while growing up, they unlearn life and embraceadulthood,
which teaches them: overthinking comparisons, expectations, responsibilities,
aims and desires.

And the constant smile on theirface is replaced by a stressed forehead and a
complex life.

Some changes, especially responsibilities ought to be there in adulthood, but
still, there's always a temporary detour to being a child.

Whenever you face tough times, get back being a kid, shut your mind, think
what's there, any luxury or smallest of comfort, enjoy it. Smile because you
are alive, no bigger reason is needed and then giveyour best. That's it :)
