NECESSITY

Dear friends,

There is a saying that “It is the necessity which isthe mother of invention”.
Ifnecessity is not there people would be very much lethargic and will not
haveeagerness.

When coal shortage experienced, new engines with dieseland later electric
traction appeared.

I have wondered the train stops90%, the coach numbers, as marked in the
platform. To avoid rushing ofpassengers to front and back for unreserved
coaches, arrangements are on theway to have all the unreserved coaches in the
back for upward trains. For downword trains it will be in the front.

Probably temporary stopping of no trains till June 14, the arrangement mightbe
quicker.

An incident occurred four years back. I was going to a nearbyplace taking a
seat in a share auto. The driver a young man, native to Chennai, asked a
question to the person sitting close to him, pointing a banner whileone of the
travellers was getting change to give him. He just smiled and keptquiet. After
some time he asked- Are you not following Tamil?  Now he answered, he is a
Keralite and notable to understand Tamil.

The auto driver calmly asked nowto him, how many years he is in Chennai in
using 3/4th Malayalam and1/4th Tamil as his language. The gentle man answered
four  years in Malayalam.

Now the auto driver put aquestion- Did you not think to learn Tamil to certain
extent to talk to personslike us? The next line he told made me to think more
about him- We learn with difficulty the nearby states languages and English,
tounderstand what the passengers talk, and carry them to the place they wanted
togo. Rather than as source of income, it is for you we learn other languages.

We can get other passengers whotalk Tamil and have our journeys rather than
waiting and understanding.

>From the way the young autodriver talked in English, I felt he might be
>studied up to graduate level.

It was the place for me to getdown. The auto driver’swords made me to think a
little about the necessity he mentioned.

Travelling in a share auto Istopped for practical difficulties as age advanced.
For short trips I have 3auto men phone numbers, one of them might come for
short trips.

Now being corona worst period, Ido not move anywhere except to nearby ATM to
have some cash drawn.

Sincerely

1. Purchasing four line books.

I recollect an occasion, on a dayI forgot to bring the four line book to school
while studying in 6thstandard. There was time to write. I thought- I can
purchase a book from theshop near to school, from where my father purchased
things on credit. In time Iproduced, with a half lie to father- my four line
book got finished and hencepurchased. It had about 7 more pages. It saved my
skin much- or else theteacher would tell my father- samiyutae makan fourline
book conduvaran marannu (Your son forgot tobring four   line book)

2. Writing in the examination.

I recollect changing nib andspider, checking neck of the pen, and filling full
GOOD QUALITY SULEKHA ORBRILL INK, and test write and take two pens to
examination hall to write inanswer paper.

Every day this checking was doneduring examination period. On normal class days
nothing is checked, wrote withany pen, pencils or ink is exhausted, with
friend’s pen etc.  This speciality was due to the importance ofexamination and
necessity of keeping things.

Do not the parents ask now toowhen children start for examination- have you
taken good pens? Have you takenhall ticket? The practice is followed by most
students. Only thing – Now ballpens. I am not touchingonline examination and
answering here.

3. Reservation coach and journey.

For 99% of us, now a day trainjourney is with reservation and more than 70% of
it in AC Coaches.

We make sure tickets are taken, triple checked, or lap top or mobile to show the
electronic ticket and ensureit is well charged to show the TTR?

Are we not taking identity INORIGINAL   as munjagrithai muthanna to a munsunti
TTR?  So when necessity is there we actaccordingly. Soft copy of aadhar is not
accepted so far.

Now we can get plastic aadharcard issued by authorityon application. The
stationary shop man told me about it recently. He preparedthe application for
my wife. I just tried for me and it was success. After tendays I received the
aadhar card in plastic just like the PAN card for both of usby speed post.
Payment by on line is only Rs 50-00.

4. Rendu roopae change kodahea (Give two rupees change)

After travelling a few times inBangalore city buses, I make out something from
the Kannada the conductorstalk. Going to the vegetable shop I understand holli,
kodi, illae etc. Theyunderstand more my Tamil and ask neenga Tamilla.

While going to other places, someEFFORTS to understand a little of local
language may help a lot of times.

5. Reading Tamil

When I came to Chennai in 1966 Idid not know to read Tamil. First a purchased a
Malayalam- Tamil translator andstarted reading boards of buses, gradually to
Tunukku news in magazines andlater books like kalkandu, and then magazines. On
those days other thancirculating library books, cinema, drama and radio were
all the time passingthings. Now also I can write only like print Tamil.

6. XXX Potti.

XXX Potti close to me joinedalong with me in the training centre at Trivandrum,
he was not trained inadvance technologies. He was managing with old
technologies. One fine day hesmiled and told me- I have decided to go for
advanced technology trainings.  I asked why such a Bhoothothayam (Sudden
thinking).

He replied coolly- If I do notundergo now, I MAY NOT BE ABLE TO TAKE CLASSES
any more.Priority is for modern technologies. He finished two or three
trainings andtill his promotion, he was able to manage with that. So
necessity is self-felt.

7. Ariyatha pilla choriyumbol ariyum (A child who do not understandwhat is
itching, would understand itching when he feel for scratching)

This is a famous saying. Whennecessity arises we have to meet the situation. We
would find out the means andways for it. At least for the time being.

There is a teleserial Manampolae Mangalyam in ZEE Malayalam channel. Thefamily
head, an ex-military man cannot remain a few seconds without scratchingroad. He
comes to dining table with scratcher.

8. My files and my computer.

Once I was keeping papers hereand there, when papers became more, I started
filing since I could not locateand further more apprehension, whether they
would get lost. When number ofpapers became more in different angles, I started
to keep separate files fortelephone bills, building related, purchase related,
current charge related, insurance and mediclaim related. Very good- you are
doing exemplary jobs, Ithought for a while about myself.

After computer has come importantpapers are stored in computer and external
memory in addition.

9. Pinnayaum chankaran thengelu (Chankaran has again climbed thecoconut tree)

This saying means going back toold things or patterns on lethargy.

When feeling tired, individual filing is lost. Papersare filed here and there.
When more papers have come, leaving other things, Idecide to file them. One
fine day, not able to get a paper from the file, Iselect the next day for
proper filing. If I would have done properly in thebeginning much suffering and
tension would have avoided.  BUT IT IS PRACTICALLY NOT POSSIBLE. Because
lethargy and lazinessare basic nature of humans.

When I comment on kitchenneatness, I have to expect my keeping papers here and
there in sofa also. It isnot even 60% possible to keep things in order.

10 Eaatele pasu pullu thinnilla. (Cow in the book will not eat grass)

We can try a little bit ratherthan advocating and advising. Some thing can be
done. Not all. Though necessityis felt along with laziness and lethargic.

While lying in the bed, with ACchillness, rather than taking woollen things
forgot to take from almirah beforelying on the bed, PEOPLEWILL TRY TO ADJUST
WITH BED SHEET FOLDING IT MORE SINCE SLEEP OVER TAKE THECHILLNESS CREATING
LETHARGY to open and take the woolenthings.

A person forgot to take towelwhile going to river, and walked a good distance,
try to dry body and hair USING DHOTHI. Sometimeseven in the home!!!

The best example of our caution is while signing chequesand documents. We make
sure ink is there and scribble somewhere to ensurecorrect flow. If wesign and
half way ink stopped in cheque- Signature in two inks is not accepted.
