Iplaced the transducer very very gently on the baby’s small chest, careful notto wake her up. As unseen bursts of ultrasound waves shot out of thetransducer; reflecting back from the small beating heart; I flipped switches,rotated dials to adjust the contrast; to make sense of the shadowy image on thescreen. What I saw, stunned me. Inside the ventricle of therapidly beating heart, I could see multiple tumours, both inside right and left ventricle; looking likemultiple monsters, waking up from sleep, protruding their ugly head.
