Foreign medical graduates (FMG)
MD, MBBS or RMP ?
Indian Medical Graduate will face a major problem in future.
Foreign medical graduates (who did medical degree from Russia, china or
other country) are doing medical practice in india with degree M.D. in
their pescriptions. Which is absolutely against law. It is a punishable
crime with imprisonment of one year under section 14 and 15 of Medical
Council of India
which creates misconceptions among the general public of their
qualification. People think they are post graduate MD (doctor of medicine)
but actually their degree is lower then MBBS.
Their degree is similar to MBBS, but not MBBS.
Degree of Foreign medical graduate is MD(full form- medical doctor)
Degree of indian medical graduate is MBBS (bachelor of medicine and
bachelor of surgery)
Foreign medical graduate are only bachelor of medicine not bachelor of
surgery mean surgical part is missing in there training. That's why no
cadaver alloted to them.
No cadavers are alloted to foreign medical graduates because they are
graduated in medicine only. They have no qualification in surgery.
Lakhs of foreign medical graduate (FMG) will come to india in coming years
and start practicing with MD degree. General public of india will easily
mistake them as post-graduates/MD.
This not only hampers proper treatment of our patients, it is also
detrimental for an Indian Medical Graduate (MBBS).
What is the way.....
MCI and govt of India should change the name of their degree, there are
two options-
1. FMG (foreign medical graduate )
2. RMP (registered medical practitioner)
What should we do for future of medical science in india--
1. circulate this message among all real medicos in india
2. E-mail the above message to MCI, ICMR, MOHFW and other medical control
agencies of india.
3. File an RTI with this issue.
