Q2           Whycan't an Indian Army officer afford BMWs and Audis?

A2           Kanthaswamy Balasubramaniam Lawyer Sun

These vehicles cost a minimum of 45 Lakhs and average of64 Lakhs

An Army officer ofLieutenant General grade retired today gets Rs. 78.20 Lakhs
in PF + Gratuity

Plus Rs. 89,200/-Pension plus DR per month

How can they afford topay 45 Lakhs for a Car?

Thats 55% of theirtotal retirement money and EMI if a loan is availed comes to
70%-90% of theirmonthly income

Even on Salary where LtGenerals earn Rs. 2.25–2.5 Lakhs per month , you need
55%-60% as EMI for thosecars.

Plus even if an Army officer is wealthy by family , topurchase such cars, you

Plus imagine if a Majordrives an Audi and his commanding Colonel drives a Wagon
R!!!!

So the Job in itselfprevents you from splurging even if you have the money at
least while you arein service.

Q4           Whywould it be a problem if the Siberian tiger goes extinct?

A4           Nick Nicholas Studied Big Cats for40+ years Fri

First of all, the Siberian Tiger is one of the mostmagnificent predators that
evolution has ever produced. Superbly adapted for its environment it fears no
animal it shares itsrange with.

Their prey is variedfrom salmon to deer and wild pibs and even Moose. In rare
cases bears arepreyed on as well.

If the apex predator is removed in any food chain, thenchaos occurs. The prey
animals will multiply outof control and eat all the vegetation and eventually
you end up with desert.Nature operates on a very delicate balance and removing
any part of the chainhas far reaching consequences.

Q5           Whatsimple things can I do to keep my liver healthy?

A5           Lucia Garcia Worked at Hospitals Sat

The liver is one of themost important internal organs of the human body, and
its biggest function is to help the body eliminatetoxins.

The most beneficial food for liver health is wolfberry, which is a berry with
high nutritional value.

Wolfberry is rich inprotein, carbohydrates, betaine, carotene, vitamin A,
vitamin B, vitamin C, andminerals such as calcium, germanium, iron, and
phosphorus.

Wolfberry contains alot of betaine. Pharmacological experiments show that
betaine can inhibit thedeposition of fat in the liver, repair damaged liver
cells, and promote livercell regeneration.

Regular consumption ofwolfberry is a simple and effective way to maintain the
health of the liver.

In addition, wolfberrycontains natural organic germanium, which has good
anti-cancer and anti-agingeffects.

Q6           How isthe Indian Armed Forces regarded by other countries?

A6           Sainyam Agrawal Passionate aboutIndian Army Fri

Let me begin from mid 90’s

The Image of IndianArmed forces was not very clear to foreign nations they use
to imagine Indianforces as we were in WW2 because that was the last time the
world saw Indiansprominently in the action but reality was far from what people
thought.

in the beginning of 21st century Indian forces startedinteracting with other
Armies and this increased a lot over aperiod of time after 2010 we started
increasing are presence on social mediaalso (name ADGPI). After that now I can
saw that the image of Indian Armedforces has changed people are aware how
professional and high tech Army we are.One thing we shouldalways remember is
that people speak what they see.

Now when they see areforces different way they are aware of some reality
earlier they did not sayanything like that say they were not

Q7           Why doplanes not have square windows? Why are these always round?

A7           Connor Dalton Frequent researcher ofaircraft and incidents
September 9

Oh, I can answer that.Because we learned the hard way.

That is the DeHavilland Comet. It was the first ever jetairliner, and as you
can see, it had square windows.

The Comet is also thereason we discontinued the practice. The Comet’s square
windows created substantial stressproblems on the airframe. This produced
fatigue cracks in theaircrafts skin, which lead to the aircraft suffering a
catastrophic explosivedecompression. This causedthe plane to effectively
explode in air.

Square windowsmassively increase the fatigue rate on the skin, which makes it
uneconomical,and dangerous to safety.

Q8           Can Ieat a mango with dark spots on it?

A8           Lucia Garcia Worked at Hospitals September28

Mango skin containspolyphenol oxidase.

During transportation, when the mango skin is scratched, rubbed, or otherwise
exposed to pressure, thepolyphenol oxidase will undergo a chemical reaction,
and under the action of oxygen, it will turn intoa black substance, that is,
the black spots on the surface of the mango skin.

If the black spots onthe surface of the mango skin do not penetrate intothe
flesh, you can safely eat the mango.

Once the dark spotscontinue to penetrate into the flesh, these indicate that
the mango has startedto rot, and such mangoes can no longer be eaten.

Q9           Howwould you justify Bhima torturing Gandhari and Dritarastra
after theKurukshetra War for more than 15 years?

A9           Bhanu Kiran Exploring ancient textsof Sanatana Dharma Sat

Bhima was aggressive in nature. We can see his aggressive behavior multiple
times in Mahabharata. In Rangbhoomiexhibition, the Kuru princes came one by one
to exhibit their skills. WhenKarna gate crashed the exhibition, Bhima started
abusing by comparing Karna toa dog. In the game of dice,Bhima wanted to burn
the hands of Yudhisthira for staking Draupadi.

After the Kurukshetrawar, all five Pandavas were taking good care of
Dhritarashtra. Dhritarashtrawas given excellent clothes to wear. Meat and
liquor were also provided for thepleasure of Dhritarashtra. But still
Dhritarashtrahad grudge over Bhima remembering his son Duryodhana. This
madeBhima to cause displeasure to Dhritarashtra. Bhima then started ignoring
thecommands given by Dhritarashtra and mentally tortured him.

Vaishampayana said, ‘O king! The people did not seeanything missing in the
affection that King Yudhishthira and Duryodhana’sfather displayed towards each
other. O king! However, whenever the Kourava king remembered his foolish son,
the king couldn’t helpmentally censuring Bhima. O Indra among kings! In that
way, Bhimasena couldnever tolerate King Dhritarashtra and caused the aged one
displeasure.Vrikodara didn’t reveal these disagreeable acts. Instead, he used
deceitful mento ignore his commands.

Q10         Why somany old remains of different animals and almost no remains
of humans? Thereare so many fossils of dinosaurs 70, 100, 200 million years
ago, and no remainsof human ancestors like Orrorin. What is the common
explanation for this?

A10         Claire Jordan Degree in biology andfolklore; programmer, shop
owner, secretary on newspaper September 27

“Dinosaur” is not a group equivalent to “human” - it’s equivalent to“mammal”.
Humans are just a dozen or so speciesliving over a period of two million years,
while dinosaurs (including birds)have been around well over a hundred times as
long.

It’s like comparing thenumber of boats and ships of all kinds with the number
of Honda Civics. Dinosaurs are a whole class ofvertebrate, while humans are
just a tiny specific group of the class Mammalia.

Q11         Whatwould happen if tigers migrated to Africa?

A11         Ansh Badal Seen leopards, tigers anddholes(and now lions!) in the
wild September 30

It has Already happened.

A wildlife film-maker,John Varty, was worried about the plummeting tiger
populations, so he bought aprivate game reserve and released captive tigers
after teaching them survivalskills. They were Bengaltigers. They are thriving
there, although lion prides are a threat, andbecause of that and to take down
bigger prey, the tigers form gangs ofsame-gendered siblings like cheetahs do.
Currently 21 (18 orange and 3 white)tigers live there.

Q12         Doeselectricity flow through water easily?

A12         Anil Agnihotri , Lab Chemist (Retired)at Rajukesh Enterprises
(1987-present)Answered Sun

Water, that is  H2O, is a non-conductor.

Conductors usually are solids (exception - mercury), with their atoms arranged
as a crystalline matrix, with theirvalence electrons free to move under the
influence of an electric field. Theother type of conducting substances are
compounds that are ionically bonded, and separate out easily in a solvent into a
positive ion and a negative ion.

Water is a terrific solvent, It dissolves ionic materials, a.k.a. electrolytes,
with the greatest of ease. In fact water doesn’teven have to be in the presence
of dissolvable minerals for this to happen. Ifleft exposed to the atmosphere,
it spontaneously reacts with carbon dioxide, thereby forming carbonic acid,
which dissolves readily into ions. Thus while water is a non-conductor, it very
easily becomes ahost to electrolytes in solution, and turns into an excellent
conductor.

Q13         Aresenior citizens worried about their diminishing income due to
low interestrates on fixed deposits?

A13         Gopalkrishna Vishwanath While others"know" about ageing, I have
experienced it. Still am. May 15

Yes, of course they areand I am one of them.

My income these days isfrom my fixed deposits and income from rents from
properties I own inBengaluru.

All my old fixeddeposits have matured and I have re-invested them at the
current low interest rates.

My tenants, all of themworking in the software industry, have vacated the
premises due to Covid. Idon’t blame them. Whypay rent when they are all working
from home?

They have gone home to whatever places theycame from and are working from
their real homes and saving on the rent inBengaluru. I amstruggling to find
tenants for my vacant premises.

Property prices havecrashed and I am not getting prevailing prices for my
properties when Iconsidered selling them. Covid is responsible for all this.

So my total monthly income has taken a very big hitduring the past year. I am
not a pensioner.

Even Quora is makingmiserly payments these days to their QPP partners!

>From an average of 330dollars per month I was earning from Quora in 2019, the
>income has reduced to75 to 90 dollars per month these days in spite of my
>asking more questionsduring 2021. The downward trend is continuing and all my
>earnings from my Quoraquestions are coming from questions that I had asked
>over six months ago.Almost all the new questions are earning absolutely
>nothing and the few thatearn are picking up a few cents. The trend is clear.
>Unless Quora decides to pay more, even my nominalQuora earnings are going to
>dry up in the next few months.

Medical costs are goingup. The only cost that has come down is my petrol and
travel costs. Since weare confined to our homes, there is very little petrol
cost these days.

I am now seriouslylooking for a “work from home” kind of job.

I don’t want to returnto my old profession. At my age, (71) it is too strenuous
and besides I havebeen away from it for far too long to be able to be useful to
anyone now.

I can competentlyhandle internet browsing, collecting data, putting the data in
neat lookingspreadsheets, write reports, articles, essays, and contribute web
content orjust relieve busy executives of routine grunt work that they can
quietly offload to me. I can easily spare 4 hours a day for this and keep just
one or twohours for indulging on Quora and my other interests. Any kind of work
that thatcan done on a laptop and sent over the net is welcome.

I invite busy Quoranswho are overloaded with work and can off load some simple
work that saves timeand effort for them, to contact me privately in my message
box and later byemail and describe what they want and I will see if I can help
them in any wayso that I can add to my greatly diminished income these days.
You could alsospread the word if you cannot help but know someone who can.
Thank you.

Q14         Whatare some tips to minimize the wastage of my computer's
processing power?

A14         Fredrick Miller, former ProcessAutomation (1977-2009)Answered March
11

Any computer systemthat is not doing useful work is wasting potential. That
being said a PC on a desktop or a tabletsitting on charge are all wasters. If
all the smart phones, PCs, Laptopseven mainframe and supercomputers were
analyzed unlike your brain they wouldall be using less than 1%. This is because
most of the time your devices arewaiting for inputs from you the biggest waster
of them all. “Your” meaning allthe computers that you control and thus all the
systems that each ownercontrols.

The big question is ifa computer is not doing useful work is this bad? Today
everyone wants acomputer that is responsive, lets say to prevent waste all
computers made fromnow on must run at one hundredth the speed. Now that means
all the computersuse 99% of the available processing power. But that will cause
what takes 1second now would take 99 seconds.

To prevent such slowresponse systems are made fast to respond fast, but this
then causes waste.

There is another formof waste and it is called latency, this waste is usually
caused by a fragmentedand slow hard drive but it can also be exasperated by not
enough memory. Thiswill slow your entire system down that is where a Solid
State Hard Drive willhelp (SSD).

All the above QA are based on Quora digest to me on 04-10-2021.Quora answers
need not be 100% correct answers
