MOOKILLARAJYATTHUMURIMOOKANRAJAVU..1

 Dearfriends,

WhenI thought of writing about Nose (Mookku) immediately the Malayalam saying
givenas title came to my mind.  In a countrywhere persons have no nose, the one
with a cut nose is the king. It is a sayingcarrying many meanings.

Sincerely,

 1. Sasthrikal coming for functions.

Inmy home there was a senior Iyer knowing some vaideekam. He could
conductsrardha, upakarma etc. He was VIP in our home from my child hood. He
wasslightly a serious person with children.

Whenupanayanam, marriage etc come in a family; sasthrikal was invited from
Mannaror Mavelikkara.  His job was to assist themduring such functions. The
sasthrikal might not bring any assistant honouringhim and he might become his
assistant.

Becauseof his seriousness during child hood days, secretly we used to
say“Murimookkanu sthanam poyata”, talking about him (His lost his position)
insuch occasions.

2. Thanne jnan Mooku kondu Kshaezhuthikkum.

Thesaying in Malayalam has rough translation as “I would make you to write
withnose the Malayalam letter” Ksha” (which has so many bends and difficult to
write).Simple meaning totally defeating a person. I have seen Nampoohiries
making useof the saying than others.

3. Soorpanakha.

Ihave read elsewhere, the fight between Rama and Ravana would not have
occurred,if the nose of Soorpanakha was not cut by Lakshmana.

Foryoungsters I am detailing shortly here. Soorpanakha was a cousin ofRavana.
One day Soorpanakha found SriRama and Lakshmana in the forest near their
hermitage and she advanced towardsSri Rama attracted by his beauty with a
request to marry her.

SreeRama told that he is married and directed her to approach LAKSHMANA TELLING
HEIS NOT MARRIED.

Lostwith Sree Rama, she felt slightly insulted, and approached Lakshmana.
Lakshmanatoo pleaded he was married. She in insult started advancing to both,
notbelieving both and Lakshmana had to cut her nose to stop the advancing.

Soorpanakshawith bleeding nose approached Ravana. She said, she saw a very
beautiful woman, MOSTSUITED TO RAVANA and TRIED TO GET HER TO MAKE HIS WIFE
and in the duo her nosewas cut and he should see the beautiful woman  once to
know whether she is wrong in herwords. She never talkedof her approach to marry
her to Sri Rama or Lakshmana. She kept it withherself.

Basedon Surpanakha’s sexy descriptions, Ravana got attracted to Sita and he
couldnot control himself without getting her.

Iam not sure, whether Sri Rama told that Lakshmana as unmarried for joke or
not.I have read so.

4, Mookattam (To the level of nose)

Mostlythe word is used with problematic situations. “Mookkattam kutichittu”
means aperson has consumed liquor and lost all balance.

“Mookattam katam” means a person has took loanfrom everywhere possible.

“Mookkattamoonu kazhicchttu” means a person feeling drowsiness after eating
uncontrollablyto the stage of vomiting.

5. Kili mookku, Onan mookku, chappanamooku..

Aperson having slightly bend nose is told having kili mooku (parrot nose).
Aperson having lengthy nose is called Oona Moonchi (Chameleon nose. A
personhaving slightly flat nose is told- chapping moonchi etc. In general
peoplehaving parrot nose is observed more angry and knowledgeable in nature.

6. Mookkutthi ( Nose ring or stud)

Normallywomen adorn golden or diamond stud in nose. A few days before marriage
it is apractice to pierce nose and adorn ear stud to girls. In olden days the
bridegroom’s side sometimes demanded  thebride to be adorned with diamond stud
in nose and ears.  Ear studs are worn on either side or one sideof the nose as
it is felt by the girl.

7. Mookintae attathu deshyam ( Aperson becoming angry for petty  thingsalso)

Somepeople used to get angry even for petty things (not perfect in their
view).  As if waiting for an occasion to get angerthey would react. Nothing can
be told of them.

Evenduring auspicious functions where very much care  was taken , they would
get  angry and spoil things for small things.

8. Mooku murikkuka ( Nose cut)

Certainpeople would  be appearing with suchpride and boasting talks, everybody
cannot, but some persons might  talk one or two words and after that, they
mayremain silent.

RecentlyI was in a Railway station in Kerala. One Lawyer under influence of
liquor was talking to  other passengers, especiallyto women with out any
matter. They were trying to avoid the maximum to reply him and ignoring him .

Oneyoung man hale and healthy was observing it for some time. He got up,
reached advocate, asked him – They are notanswering you, still you are talking,
what is your DISEASE?  It was a nose cut for him.

Hebecame silent in a second and vanished in a minute from the area. The
liquoreffect had vanished on his words.

I will continue in next part
