By the reading of Epics like Ramayana and withthe performance of Yajnaas not only we can check the troubles of these spirits but also help them in returning to theirloka destined to them according to their Karma while they were living. Q10Is it a drawback about Hinduisam that it has no specific authrititave book? A10 Yes. The Sikhs, for instance, do so; they venerate their sacred book, calling it the"Granth Sahib" [and enshrineit in temples]. What is the authoritative work of our Vedicreligion? Peopleof other faiths are clear about whattheir sacred books are. Buddhistshave the Tripitaka, Parsis (Zoroastrians ) the Zend-Avesta, Christians the Bible, and Muslims theQur'an. Whatwork is basic to our religion, common to Saivas, Vaishnavas,Dvaidins(dualists) and Advaitins(non-dualists) and the followers of various other (Hindu) traditions Mostof us find the answer difficult. Q11Do religious education is imparted inother religions than Hinduisam in the early ages? What is the drawback if notdone? A11Yes- Even at a youthful age they arefairly conversant with the religion into which they are born. We Hindus receive no religious instruction at all The secular state is of no help in this matterbecause, in the secular set-up,education continues to be imparted to our children on the Western pattern, and the children are taught that our sastras are all superstition. The result is that most of us do not know what the sacred text is, that iscommon to all Hindus. "People abroad ask us about our religion, about the Vedas, about the Upanishads. They want to know all about theGita and yoga, about our temples andPuranas and about so many other things. We find it difficult to answer their questions. In fact we seem to know less than what they already know about thesematters Weare acquainted with the history of theLouis dynasty and of the Tsars, but weknow nothing of the solar and lunar dynasties of our own country. Why, we do not know even the names of the seers ofthe various gotras. "Brahmanena niskarano dharmah sadangoVedadhyeyo jneyasca, " so say thesastras. It means that a Brahmin must learn the Vedas and sastras not because there is any reason forit, not because there is any purposeserved by the same. It is only in our childhood that we learn the subject without asking questionabout how useful it is. A school going chiild does not ask :"Whyshould I learn history or geography " So religious texts should be taught in childhooditself, that is before the youngster isold enough to question you about their utility [or harbour doubts about the same]. Only then will we developan interest in our religion and sastras.Do we pay our children for their being interested in sports, music or cinema Similarly, they must be made to take an interest in religion also andsuch interest must be created in the same way as in sports and entertainment The sastras admonish: "Do not ask whetherVedic education will provide you food.We eat and live but to learn the Vedas. " Your approach must be based on thisprinciple What is the book of our religion A definiteanswer even to this question seems tobe a difficult task for people these days. However, if we follow the truths of that book which is the basic work of our religion there will be universaluplift. Q12Every body know about Tirupathi Balaji temple. Q15 Do there is a myth that Lord Muruga was born from Lord Siva’s third eye? A15 Yes. Muruga's ancient mythology reveals that he was born from the third-eyeof Lord Siva. Siva's semen went up to his third eye out of which thereemerged six sparks of fire. The six-headed Muruga was thus born to destroy thedemons who were actively tormenting the devas and the humans Q16 What is Kukuta(rooster)?Do mars stay unusually for 7months in any sign? A16 Mars moved into Gemini on September 16th 2007 and will stay therefor 7-1/2 months. This is an unusual phenomenon because Mars generally onlystays for 1-1/2 months in a zodiac sign. The Kukuta (Rooster) homa is a very powerful fire ritual done to invokeone of Lord Muruga's powerful vehicles, the Rooster (Murugas other vehicle is the Peacock, and his weapon is the Vel). Muruga's divine rooster has the ability to destroynegativity and ward off evil. It is a less commonly known and rarelyperformed homa in India, but extremely powerful in nature. This ritual is onlyperformed by a few select Brahmin priest to ensure the authenticity andcorrectness of the rituals performance. Q17 What are theattributes of Godesses Lekshmi? A17 Lakshmi, the bejewelledgoddess of wealth and fortune who sits on a lotus, is the most popular goddessin India . Her image can be found gracing most households and businessestablishments. Everybodywants her. Her footprint is often painted on doorways pointing inwardsbecause everyone wants her to walk towards them. Leaders exist to make thishappen. Unfortunately, Lakshmi isChanchala, the fickle one. Few can predict where she plans to go. Sometimes her movements are predictable. Often it isn't,confounding the most astute of analysts. Exasperated by her whimsical ways, some have concluded that Lakshmi is cockeyed - she looks one way but oftenmoves the other. But there is one thingscriptures are sure: Lakshmi will always move towards Vishnu. She is drawn tohim. Vishnu is Shrinivas - 'where Lakshmi resides'. He is Lakshmikanta -'beloved of Lakshmi'. What is it that he does that makes him attractive tofortune If leaders can discover this, they too can become Vishnu; they too canbecome magnets of Lakshmi. In all of Vaishnava literature, Vishnu is nevershown chasing Lakshmi. Two groups of minordeities chase Lakshmi. They are Devas and Asuras. Asuras live under the earthand Lakshmi is addressed as Patala Nivasini, a resident of the subterraneanreasons because the ancients realised long ago that wealth in its most primalform - minerals and plants - comes from under the ground. Asuras are deemed demons because they cling to Lakshmi and will not lether go. She is Pulomi, their daughter and their sister. The Devas, who live above theground, as fire and wind and sun and sky, have to fight to release Lakshmi. Observehow all primary wealth generating activities are violent - the tilling of soil, the harvesting of crop, the threshing of grain, the smelting of metal. This 'value generating violence'is described in mythology as the war of Asuras and Devas, the hoarders anddistributors of wealth, the demons and the gods. Devas transform Pulomi intoSachi, the consort of their king, Indra. But Indra, in his recklessness, knows to enjoy Sachi but not retain her- the fickle one moves away rapidly, leaving Indra's paradise shorn of all life and beauty. Indra begs his father, Brahma,to help, who in turn directs the gods to Vishnu, who advises them to take thehelp of the Asuras for only the Asuras possess the magical Sanjivani Vidya thatcan regenerate what has been lost. -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "Thatha_Patty" group.
