HAIRFALL AND GROWTH AYURVEDAM

1 *Causes of hair fall*

Hair fall may be due to several reasons:

   - Poor nutrition
   - Erratic and irregular lifestyle – late nights and long hours
   - Environmental factors such as pollution and climate
   - Stress, anxiety and tension and inadequate sleep or rest

These factors can lead to excess toxin build-up in the body.

In *Ayurveda,* hair fall is a direct by-product of the quality of your bone
tissue. If there is weakness in the bone tissue, hair loss is a natural
result.

*The Main Three Holistic Approach Of Ayurveda*

   - Nidana (important clues for diagnosis)
   - Ahar (taking food, diet as a precaution or as medicine)
   - Chikitsa (support and self-care)

According to the Ayurveda text, the hair is a by-product of the bone, the
same tissues responsible for the growth of bone and for hair growth. The
person with Pitta constitution or those who have excessive pitta is prone
to lose hair ahead of time.

2 *What does the Ayurvedic treatment for hair fall depend on?*

In Ayurveda, the texture of your hair will depend on the imbalances that
you have in your constitution. Therefore, it is important for you to know
the *prakriti *and balances/imbalances in your constitution to come up with
a remedy. For example,

   - If you display an imbalance in Vata dosha symptoms, your hair is
susceptible to become excessively dry, frizzy and brittle. Normal vata hair
   is dry and brittle.
   - If you display an imbalance in Pitta dosha symptoms, you are likely to
have receding hairlines and a thinning texture in your hair. The heat in
the scalp leads to colour changes. For instance, your hair might manifest a
brownish tinge/shade, if it is not normally brown. This can lead to greying
of hair and balding. Normal pitta hair is thin and can be brown.
   - If you display imbalance in Kapha dosha symptoms, you are likely to
have excessively oily and sticky hair. This can lead to blocks in the
follicles of your scalp. This leads to hair fall. Normal kapha hair is
   thick.

*Type of Dosha*

*Hair qualities*

*How hair becomes when doshas are in imbalance*

*Vata (air and space elements dominate*)

Tendency to become dry and brittle

Frizzy and brittle hair with dandruff and split ends

*Pitta (fire element dominates)*

Tendency to become thin, oily and silky

Premature greying and balding of hair

*Kapha (earth and water elements dominate)*

Tendency to become oily and thick

Clogged and extremely oily scalp

In every condition, there is a need to remove toxins from your system,
whether you know the cause of it or not. So detoxification is of the
essence.

4 Ayurvedic Lifestyle That Support Hair Growth

*Drink lots and lots of water:* Drinking water is essential for our body to
function properly shortage of water in the body may result in too many
illnesses. The body functions well only if you are well hydrated. The
hormones and enzymes in the body need water to work properly. They utilize
water in making body cells and tissue so it is necessary for proper body
function.

To fulfill this requirement we must at least drink 8 to 10 glasses of water
a day, so ultimately it is also useful for the proper growth of hair tissue.

*Good Sleep for hair growth:* Sleeping can also be a good remedy for
overall body health and even for hair growth. For the proper function of
the body, you need enough sleep to let your body relax and be stress-free.

A hectic routine and everyday tension can create hair loss problems; it is
due to the cell tissues on the scalp getting disturbed. During sleeping,
almost all tissues are regenerated and rejuvenated so it is necessary to
sleep a minimum of 8 hours. So sleeping can also be the best remedy to stay
healthy and fit.

There are various combinations that are taken into account such as diet,
herbs, oil massage, meditation, aromatherapy, breathing and yoga which can
be beneficial in treating the hair loss problem and premature greying of
hair.
