There was confirmed intelligence input about movement of terrorists from the NSCN group. Security forces were on high alert. 2. A civilian vehicle was stopped at a check post. It did not stop. It was again stopped at another check post and again the vehicle did not stop. It drove past. 2. Security Forces fired at the tires of the vehicle. The vehicle then stopped. Few men came out carrying weapons. The security forces fired upon them, as they were perceived to be a threat. It was about approximately 1730 pm and in North East, it starts to get dark at this time. 3. It was later discovered that they were hunters with personal weapons. 4. Soon, a crowd gathered, and tried to lynch the security forces. The security forces tried to calm down the crowd by trying to lower tempers. 5. Suddenly a person in the crowd rushed forward with a dah and slit the throat of a soldier. The soldier lost his life. 6. Troops started firing in self defence. All soldiers involved are injured, most of them critically. This is bring to your kind notice that Indian Army practices the highest degree of restraint, even at the cost of their own lives. The killing of civilians, while extremely unfortunate, was an act of self defence. Own org will try and “sort out” our own boys because that is the path of least resistance. In CI/CT nothing is predictable. Again reiterating that the civilian deaths were unfortunate but you don’t attack soldiers and then expect them not to retaliate.
