In short the digestion of the body in the day time and the night time vary because of the sun and moon light of akarshana (gravitation) from Day to day; and the pujas and the fasting concepts are made wrt the distances of these planets as well as that of the day and night. Whereas the dakshinayanam and uttarayanam determine the distance of the SUN, in Day time, the Amavasya to Pournami and the Pournami to Amavasya do determine the night-time. Digestion thus varies between the day and the night if we were to maintain the body diseases-less, by Arogya and Ayurveda. Most of our ill health is only due to the non-observation of the yoga rules; and violations do not reveal in a single day but cumulatively; stomach has the acid enough to digest anything; but over and under usage, reduces the lifetime; failure does result in some vyati. So, on the Amavasya day since the moon is far away from Apogee, high carbon diets might not digest so easily hence only fruits were recommended; but we violated it to tiffin; now that lady to Rice high carbon; and getting into diabetic sooner than later.
