Q17 What arethe details of Agni?

A17 One of the mostancient and most sacred objectsof Hindu worship, Agni
appears in three phases: G) as Sun in heaven, GO aslightning in midair, and
(iii) as ordinary fire on earth.

Agni is one of the three great deities in the Vedas, viz., Agni, Vayu (or
Indra) and Surya, who preside on earth, air and sky, respectively, and are equal
in dignity.

Agni is considered asthe mediator between men and gods,as protector of men and
their homes, and a witness to their actions.

Agni is one of the PanchBhutas (q.v.) and represents theprimordial fire which
carries forth life essence in all forms of manifestation. It exists in them,
either in latency or expressed in their actions.

Agni had three sons,Pavaka, Pavamana, and Suchi, who were condemned by
Vashistha to be born repeatedly.

The three sons of Agnihad 45 sons, so the family hadaltogether 49 persons
identified with the 49 fires. They produced physical, psychic and spiritual
energies in men by their permutations and combinations

The seven flames of fireare named Kali (black), Karali(fierce), Manojava
(mind-swift), Sulohita (blood-red), Sudhumravarna(smoke-coloured),
Vishwaruch-devi (universally attractive), and Sphulingini(scintillating). They
are the seven channels of cosmic, mundane and humanevolutions

AGNIVESHA-A sage, a sonof Agni, and an ancient writer onmedicine.

The Sun is the visiblesymbol of cosmic firefunctioning in the solar system; it
vibrates at the highest spiritual level inman. Mars represents fire at the
physical level, imparting to it the necessaryvigour, enthusiasm and initiative.
Jupiter absorbs the life force radiatingfrom the Sun, and distributes it
throughout the body for sustaining andprotecting it from any untoward calamity

A18 The priest who served the fire god and performed Agni Hotra everymorning

Gautam Indra, inthe guise of Sage Gautam, seduced her But Indra once again
seduced Ahalya andthis time the sage turned Ahalya into a stone This episode of
Ahalya'sseduction by Indra is explained mythological as Indra (Sun's carrying
away theshades of night, as the name Ahalya also means and signifies night.

Q20 Whatare  the basis of Mooladhara chakra?

A20 This is an astronomical allegory involving the following characters :

 Mandaragiri - Meru - Earth's axis   Vasuki - The Cele-stial Equator

Devas - hold theDevayana path of the Sun from thevernal equinox to the
autumnal equinox. Reside at the North pole(13).

Asuras - own thePitryana, autumnal to veranl equinoxand the southern
hemisphere.

Rudra - meeting point ofthe two halves of Devas & Asuras at240 degree  - where
the Akasa Ganga cutsthe ecliptic.

Amrtam - antidoteagainst the ageing process of time i.ebecoming immune to the
precession of equinoxes - sidereal year or zodiac.

It will be interesting tonote that Rigveda has the mention of a "Purna-
Kumbha" from whichtime emanates(15).

Legend of "Hari-Hara Putra"(Son of Rudra & Visnu)

Recovery ofthe amrtam (or Calendar) by Devas with the help of Visnu as Mohini,
and thebirth of a son for Rudra & Mohini in Uttara-phalguni naksatra refers to
asubsequent year-beginning at summer solstice falling at 15degree of
theSidereal zodiac.

Visnu as Mohini is the Sun entering Kanya Rasi andRudra is Mula as before.

Hari orVisnu is also the Simha Rasi and hence the solstice falling over 15
degreebecame Hari-Hara Putra in mythology.

Moreover this deity is Pulivahana i.e rides overLion(cryptic reference to the
sign Leo ) and Brahmachari - averse to Women - as thesolstice has already moved
over the Kanya Rasi from east to west and also Kanyabeing mother as Mohini from
a different angle.

Astronomy underlying thelegend of Hari-Hara putra finds a beautiful
demonstration in the Sabrimala SriDharma Sastha Temple of Kerala. In clear-cut
symbolism with the MuladharaCakra, the deity is Yogaroodha (in Yogic
posture)and sits over18 holy steps  which signify the 18 stepsof Yoga-vidya as
well as the ascent of Kundalini from Muladharam (2400) toSirsa-padmam (00) over
the cerebro-spinal axis.

Further it is customary that the devotees must carry with them a
coconut(three-eyed) as representing the Trayambaka-Rudra . The first visit to
the shrine receive theappellation Kanni (Malayalam term for Kanya ). This is
reflective of theyear beginning with Kanya Rasi and the tradition prevails even
now in Malabar(North Kerala).
Q21 Who isDurga?
A21 Durga is a typical example illustrative of the above facts. She hascome to
share everyone's features like Parvati, Uma, Laksmi etc. and this makesthe
identification impossible. But if we can restrict ourselves to certainprominent
attributes only, the task becomes very easy.
1. According to theDevimahatmya of the Markandeya Purana(Ch.81-93), She is the
creator of Brahma-Visnu-Mahesvara Trinity and hence theMahakali i.e the Great
Female Goddess of Time. She is the equivalent of Rudrabut not his consort.

Q22 Who iskuttichathan?

A22 Kumara Sastha(Kutti-Chattan in Malayalam) who is son of Rudra & Visnu Maya.

Q23 What isBhismastami ?

A23 Bhismastami: As shown elsewhere Bhisma or Gangadatta is the Mulanaksatra
and the Mahabharata is a sidereal versus tropical calendar conflict.

Krishna won the conflict and Bhisma even though invincible allowed thecalendar
to be tropical by quitting his fiducial role, on the winter
solsticeday(316-40).

Bhismastami therefore represent the 8th tithi from the epoch (which had new
mooncoinciding with the winter solstice)when the Moon was over Rohini-the
naksatra of vernal equinox.

Whereas in the Satapatha Brahmana (II.1.3) we see(20):

" Vasant, Grisma, Varsa are the Deva-rtus while Sarad, Hemant andSisira belong
to the Pitrs... when Sun moves to the North he is amongst theDevas while in
South amongst Pitrs".

Q24 What is Mahalaya paksha?

A24 The systemcould not remain uncorrupted for long. Pitryana got confused with
Daksinayanaand Yama got shifted to the summer solstice in the tropical Calendar
with thepassage of time.

Thus the darkfortnight of Bhadrapada came to be regarded as sacred for the
Pitrs (MahalayaPaksa). But the earlier association of Pitrs with the autumnal
equinox findsits reflection in the secondary Mahalaya Paksa observed in the
dark fortnightof Asvina which culminate withNaraka Chaturdasi when the Pitrus
are supposedly sent back to their world.

Q25 What isMula related to Kartikeya?

A25 The legends regarding the birth of Kartikeya fully reflect theidentity as
Mula. Mahabharata(111:228:30-1) specifically mentions that Rudra entered Agni
and created Skanda

Further at Mbh (XIII:83:11-13) Brahma tells the gods that the Tarakasuracould
be slain only by the son born of Rudra's seed falling in Agni and thenconceived
by Ganga. Ramayana also mentions the same story. The child wasbrought up by the
'Krittikas' -the Karttika solar month that preceded theMula-samkrama. Agni's
identification with Rudra also arose out of the fall ofautumnal equinox over
Mula. Rigveda X:17:3 says : "Agni submits to the Devas those who havedied" - it
is obvious that Agni guards the portals of Pitryana as theautumnal equinox.

Q27 What dothe discovery of Muladhara Cakra indicate?

A27 In fact, with the new discovery of the Muladhara Cakra and its epochas well
as the astronomical identity of the major characters like Rudra, Bhisma,Krsna,
Durga etc., much of the Puranic and Epic mythology can be
satisfactorilyinterpreted as astronomical allegories arising out of a
pre-historicastronomical tradition.

The solar and lunar dynasties, Mahabharata, Ramayana etc., are allreflective of
the astronomical phenomena that took place around 4000 BC. Theaccurate
description in the mythological language of the phenomena of 4137 BCpoint
towards the existence of a well developed school of astronomy and Tantrain the
remote antiquity.

Prof. P. C. Sengupta(32) and Dr. Subhash Kak(33) have quotedSuryasiddhanta (II.
1-5) as indicative of the existence of a pre-epicyclicastronomy in ancient
India.

In fact the Jyotishsastra tradition and the Serpent worship of Kerala areso
well entrenched that they have no parallel elsewhere in the world. The Serpent
(Nagaraja) templesas well as the temples of Harihara-putra & Kanyakumari must
have beneaththem a hitherto unknown history of astronomy as well as
civilization.
