Q1            What happens if youonly eat fruits for a week?

A1            Lucia Garcia Worked atHospitals13h

Fruits are an important part of a healthy diet, and eating them regularlycan
bring many health benefits to the body.

Fruits are nutritious and contain various vitamins, minerals, dietaryfiber,
carbohydrate and natural antioxidants.

As we all know, protein, fat, carbohydrates, minerals, vitamins, fiberand water
are the seven essential nutrients for the human body every day.

If the body is deficient in any of these seven nutrients, symptoms
ofmalnutrition will appear.

Almost no protein in the vastmajority of fruits. Proteinsare the main building
blocks of all cells, and it also provides the amino acidsthat keep the body
functioning.

Long-term protein deficiencycan lead to many health problems, such as
malnutrition, tiredness, low immunity, muscle wasting, hairloss, puffiness and
other symptoms.

In addition, fruits are alsolow in fat, vitamin B1, omega-3fatty acids, and
minerals such as iron and zinc, and lack of these nutrientscan also cause
various health problems.

Q2            Besides Parkinson’sdisease, are there any other illnesses,
diseases, or medications that can causehand tremors?

A2            Ken Saladin Textbookauthor and professor emeritus 20h

A close friend of mine has had hand tremors since his early or mid-teenyears.
His hand tremors had become so pronounced that I was worried that he
hadParkinson disease, but heexplained that it’s a disorder called essential
tremor that merelymimics the hand tremors without any of the other degenerative
effects ofparkinsonism.

Essential tremor (ET) is a neurological disorder thatcauses your hands,
head, trunk, voice or legs to shake rhythmically. It isoften confused with
Parkinson's disease.

Essential tremor is the mostcommon trembling disorder. Everyonehas at least
a small degree of tremor, but the movements usually cannotbe seen or felt
because the tremor is so small. When tremors are noticeable, the condition is
classified as essential tremor.

Essential tremor is most common among people older than65, but it can
affect people at any age. Some experts have proposedconsidering ET that starts
earlier in life as essential tremor and ET thatbegins later in life as
age-related tremor, because the conditions may havedifferent symptoms and may
respond differently to treatments.[1]

He is now somewhere in the 68–75 age bracket, I think, and he’s sufferingone of
the common consequences of this in older people: neurogenic bladder. Hislatest
prognosis is that he may have to use a catheter for life. He told me hisdoctor
said he may never be able to empty his bladder naturally for the rest ofhis
life.

Q3            Why do rats, for example, have multiple species but humans only
have one?

A3            Claire Jordan Degreein biology and folklore; programmer, shop
owner, secretary on newspaper14h

Rats adapt to new environmentsby becoming new sorts of rat. Humans adapt to new
environments by making newclothes and tools.

Also, humans travel around more. About 50,000-300,000 years ago there were
multiple humanspecies all alive at the same time, but modern humans travelled
allover the world, and either out-competed other human species or in many
caseshybridised with and absorbed them, fusing them into one. And that one
cannot split upagain into separate species because we keep on travelling around
and minglingour genes, and any new types that develop in isolated areas soon
getstirred back into the pot.

Q4            Why are plantsecretions called hormones if they don't have an
endocrine gland? Why areexocrine secretions not called hormones?

A4            Ken Saladin Formerprofessor of histology (microscopic anatomy)Wed

Endocrine secretions (hormones)could be thought of more broadly as signaling
molecules produced in one part ofthe body (animal or plant),carried in the body
fluids, binding to receptors on target cells remote fromthe emitting cells, and
exerting a physiological effect on the target cells.

But, too, plant hormones mightbe more comparable to animal (including human)
paracrine secretions than toanimal hormones. Animalparacrines don’t travel in
the blood but just diffuse to, and effect, othercells close to the cells that
secrete them. Their origin and action are in thesame tissue.

Q5            Did the ancientEgyptians live on high-calorie bread and beer?

A5            Matt Riggsby MAArchaeological Studies, Boston UniversityJan 7

I’m not sure what’s supposed to distinguish “high-calorie bread” from anyother
kind of bread. Imean, ancient Egyptian bread was mostly just grain. It didn’t
have a lotof added sugars or fats that might increase the caloric content over
that, soas breads go, it wasn’t notably high in calories, though on a pound for
poundbasis, bread has more calories than vegetables.

Anyway, that’s true-ish but very, very simplified. Most ancientEgyptians, like
most other people living in early civilizations, or indeed mostcivilizations
into the modern era, lived on diets in which they got most oftheir calories
from grain-based dishes. In the case of the Egyptians, it was typically
bread, though it might be consumed in the form of gruel or beer as well;Egyptian
beer was unfiltered, so you got the grain content from which it wasfermented as
well as the alcohol. This diet was supplemented by secondary cropslike onions,
legumes like lentils and chickpeas, olives, figs, dates, sesame, and so on, and
occasionally by fish and meat.

Q6            What is KumbhaAbhishekam?

A6            Rami Sivan Priest,Dharma teacher, counsellor, Gov. Advisor
(1998–present)Jan 11

Kumbha means the pot - and refers to the pot of ambrosia (amritam).
Abhishekammeans a bathing or lustration.

The term refers to theelaborate ceremonies of the consecration of an Agamic
Temple. The Kumbha or Kalasha being the Golden Pot which is the finial ofthe
temple dome and points towards space and signifies the nectar ofimmortality.

The consecration ceremony lastfrom 3 to 40 days depending on the size of the
temple, the number of shrines and the financial status of the temple, after the
numerous day long rituals and as a culmination, the chief priest islifted by a
cherry picker nowadays, to enable him to pour the sacred watersover the kumbha
as an act of final consecration. This is the“kumbha-abhishekam” and the water
is so holy that devotees believed them tosupremely blessed to have this water
sprinkle down upon them. It is theequivalent of bathing in the Ganga wherever
in the world one may be. All one’ssins are effaced.

The Kumbha Abhishekam isrelated to the Kumbha-Mela and is a reconsecration
ceremony performed for Agamic temples every 12 years to renew the temple’s
energy andto purge the accumulation of negativity.

Q7            Why does thesympathetic system decrease insulin?

A7            Ken Saladin Formerprofessor of histology (microscopic anatomy)22h

This is a subject of research and can be found in several articles inGoogle
Scholar, although the ones I found in a brief search were only abstractsand the
full articles were behind paywalls. One answer that comes to mind, though—perhaps
incomplete and too simplistic—is this:

The sympathetic nervous systemis responsible for the so-called “fight or
flight” response to prepare the bodyfor heightened physical exertion. Part of
this response is to liberate glucose from storage, raising blood sugarlevel so
it can be used as fuel by the muscles, brain, and heart.

Insulin has exactly theopposite effect—it promotes glucose uptake and storage,
so it lowers blood sugar. It would deprive those vital organs of thisvital fuel
just when they need it the most.

Q8            Which operation of thewashing machine consumes maximum
electricity: wash rinse, spin or drain?

A8            Michael Grimshaw,In-Home Appliance Repair Technician, 16
years.Answered Dec 1, 2015

Either wash or spin. Bothoperations use the same motor. Wash lasts longer, but
spin uses moreelectricity per second. Onthe other hand, the faster the clothes
spin, the more dry they will be whenentering the dryer. It costs a lot of
energy to evaporate water. Which meansmuch of the energy efficiency of a
high-efficiency washer happens in the spincycle.

2nd answer PrateekRana, Founder www.laundryanna.com Answered Dec 13, 2015

Let's look at what consumes electricity in a typical washing machine.

1. Motor to rotate the drum while washing, rinsing or spin.2. Heatingcoil to
heat the water in case of hot wash cycle.3. Water pump used to drainthe soiled
water.Sincemost of the duration of the complete cycle goes in washing front
andreverse motion by the motor and add the power consumed for heating water we
cansafely derive that thisfunction [washing] uses the maximum electricity.

3rd answer- Ankur Mishra , Expertise in Washing machines, RACand Refrigerators
Answered Dec 4, 2015

Wash and rinse functionconsumes more electricity ,asthere are always clockwise
and anticlockwise motion involved in it due to whichmotor initial torque
requires more current.

Q9            Are there mountains inAustralia?

A9            Andrew McGregor Livedin AustraliaJan 27

There are.

Not enormous ones, but enough tomake it hard to travel in some areas.

Come face to face with either of those views, and you are going to haveto take
a detour to keep going in that direction. It’s not New Zealand, or theAlps, or
the Rockies… but there’s enough to be a geographical barrier, andthere are
alpine ecosystems.
