Before independence, were the British officers corrupt? Were there any British officers who were corrupt? And how many officers in India today are not corrupt? Of course I have come across many officers of great integrity,but often they are facing very strong stonewalls. Many of the Temples today whose lands have been looted, were very prosperous under the Nizam, I am told. Now most Temples are looted and worse we find some Matadhipathis, joining the corrupt politicians in power. We all know that Justice delayed is not only Justice denied but actually Justice killed. But we find adjournment after adjournment eternally, transfer of Judges at the nick of the moment when a case was getting finalized and the posts of Judges kept vacant. Are there any criminal politicians who are deterred by our laws and our constitution? And there are five star Hospitals ready to accommodate the rare convicted criminal politician. Invariably the criminal gets chest pain and then joins the Five Star Hospital, often at Government expense. Are our Judges getting the physical protection they desperately need? How many Judges at the lower level, the Magistrates, Sub Judges etc, are feeling safe? How many adjournments have become eternal? Are our Institutions made cowardly deliberately? A vacant land, today automatically gets grabbed.Today,the misuse of law by the police is so terrible, that one, who might never have stirred out of one’s village may get arrested at midnight usually on the night when the courts are on holiday the next morning under some section, say for beating a soldier on the Himalayas. The police arrest under sections which give non bailable arrest power, sections which simply are irrelevant. And we never find the police punished for the blatant misuse of sections. When everyone is arrested under sections that apply for heinous offences, automatically, it gives power to the real criminal to escape as the section is so diluted by misuse.
