BEING  A COMPILATION THERE MAY  BE ERRORS

Q1            You gave the best education to your children. Posteducation, they
left India after putting you in an oldage home. Do you regret giving them the
best education?

A1            Prasanna Bhalerao M.Sc. in Electronics & Physics, Fergusson
College, Pune 21h

I am not at this stage right now (going to an old-age home). But I haveretired.
I have given (or tried to give) the best education to my son. He isstudying in
the UK right now. I do not expect that he should come back to Indiato take care
of us, his parents. I have given him full freedom to decide to dowhat he likes.
If he comes back to India, he may or may not live in Pune(because of job,
etc.). We are not going to go and live with him wherever heis, abroad or in
India.

We are thinking that when we are near 70, we may sell our apartments andmove to
a community place for older people. Just thinking but not decided.

But one thing I do not regret is giving my son a fair education in Indiaand in
the UK. Both of us consider this as an achievement on our part.

My note- It is the duty ofchildren to take care of theparents in old age, when
most requires money and affection. Father hasdischarged his duty giving
children best education.

Q2            My IFB washing machine doesn't dry clothes after washingthem.
What could be the problem?

A2            Arpita Tripathi, studied at Birla Institute of Technology

You might need to check the drain filter; also termed as the coin filter. If
incase any debris, small fabric or any material from cloth pockets is
stuckthere, water is unable to drain out properly. This might prevent your
clothesfrom getting spin-dried. This drain filter can be cleaned after every 15
washesto avoid blockage.

Washing machines will give you spin-dried clothes, in case you wish tohave 100%
drying you can opt for IFB clothes dryer.

If after normal wash cycle, the clothes seem wetter than normal, just spin them
again…thatwill remove the excess water and will help them dry out quickly when
you putthem on a clothesline outside…

IFB sells a separate dryer that uses hot air to dry the clothescompletely. That
comes in a size that sits comfortably on the existing washingmachine (I am
assuming that your washing machine is front loading automatic). You can take out
the clothes from the washer and put them in the dryer and getthem completely
dried, but that takes 2 hours and a few units of electricity. That is the reason
most homes don’t have (we don’t).

We prefer to dry the clothes under the sunlight outside…totally free…

In rainy season, we keep the clothes on stands and keep them underceiling
fans…takes a few hours to dry…

In Hyderabad, such wet spells are few in the year…

If you are in a city like Mumbai, you may like to invest in a dryer…

Chk the program you chose. See if spin is included. Or is it that you areasking
for absolute drying of clothes? Then chk if your machine supports dryingtoo. I
feel drier comes as a separate unit. What comes with the washing machineis just
spinner!!If afternormal wash cycle, the clothes seem wetter than normal, just
spin them again…thatwill remove the excess water and will help them dry out
quickly when you putthem on a clothesline outside…

Q3            How do I know if my glass is half empty or half full?

A3            GopalkrishnaVishwanathI am hardly a philosopher! Don't take me
seriously please. Mon

If you are a pessimist, your glass will be half empty. If you are anoptimist,
your glass will be half full.Half is common to both states. The pessimist sees
emptiness. The optimist sees fullness. It is similar to the door that is ajar.

The pessimist believes it is half shut and feels sad.The optimistbelieves it is
half-open and seizes the opportunity.

Q4            Which are a person's biggest regrets when he/she is old?

A4            Anubhav Jain Written 3books on Life, living and motivation.
Updated Thu

Destroying children's lives because of ego and firm opinions. Career, marriage,
comparisons, suppression, aggression.

Leaving career in between to give time at home.

Wasting or utilising moneymeant for retirement care for other purposes.

Ignoring mild symptoms and slow diseases for years leading to majorhealth
complications. Diabetesmust be highlighted here.

Not pursuing that lifelong passion and succumbing to a practicalmanageable
unperturbed life.

Not living a life at all, just kept running in a race throughout. Missedall
great stations and points in life in a pursuit to be the fastest.

Being highly dependent onchildren, giving all assets to children during the
course of life.

Have known many elderly people in life, these are some common points Iobserved
through the interactions

My note- To avoid family quarrels and separation fromchildren many parents are
forced to give assets to children.  Initially things would go fine, later bad
developments occur

Q5            Is it true that Japan still allows both left hand driveand right
hand drive vehicles on the road, but could that be confusing fortraffic flow?

A5            Look. Most countries allow allvehicles, left or right hand drive.
The wrong handed vehicle is abugger and you don't want to try overtaking in it.

There's only one country that endorses driving on the worng side of theroad and
then grants diplomatic immunity to a murderer who is too big a cowardto admit
they made a stupid mistake. Some shithole country many decades behindthe modern
world.

Q6            Why are humans the absolute only animal that need to cookmeat
before eating it?

A6            Matt Riggsby MAArchaeology, Boston UniversityMon

Other animals don’t rely on cooking because theycan’t cook anything at all.
Butwe don’t need to cook meat either. Variations on this question pop up
aroundhere from time to time because apparently nobody has ever heard of sushi.

That said, wedon’t have to cook meat before eating it, but we usually do. Why?
Because wehave remarkably weak jaws and small teeth which aren’t really well
adapted forripping and tearing raw meat. We also cook a lot of the plants we
consumebecause of those same weak jaws and small teeth. We’d have just as much
troubleeating grain and a great many other plants raw as we would meat. Since
Homo erectus developed theuse of fire around 1.8 million years ago, we’ve been
evolving to depend oncooking as a subsistence strategy, and on the face of the
evidence,it seems to have worked out pretty well for us.

Q7            Does a washing machine need to be vented?

A7            Bob Taylor, Retiredfrom construction and a teller of the truth!
Answered 11h ago

Under most circumstances the answer is no. Ordinarily most washing machines
don’t producelarge amounts of condensation.

However if it’s a combined: washer /drier…well possibly yes. Reason being they
produce condensation from the dryingmode.

Though some people don’t vent driers…washer/ driers.  Opting to instead to vent
into the area wherethey are installed. Not a great option as it can cause
massive amounts ofcondensation and mould in that room if you allow a build up
over time.

My note- For any reason, motorget heated, to desipate heat, vents are required
and provided in most washingmachines.

Q8            Why have even scientists failed to figure out the mysteryof the
pool "Bhimkund"located in Madhya Pradesh of India? What is themystery behind it?

A8            Chirayu Asati SoftwareEngineer in Microsoft Feb 6

I visited Bhimkund yesterday. Truly, it’s a mystical place.Water is soblue and
transparent, you can see at least 30ft from your naked eyes.

Why blue? There are scientificreasons which explain the indigo blue colour this
colour is very surprising and rarely found and it looks extremelyattractive in
combination

Link to the Sea

There is a famous incident of 2004 when Mumbai was hit with a Tsunami andthe
water level of this Kund rose by 50ft. There are no photographs or anyother
proofs but we do have a witness, Yes, you head it right!

My grandfather was there, his native place is nearby and he went to seethe rise
in water. It’svery difficult to believe being a science student but life is
full of wonders.More we understand, we get to know how little we know.

Unknown depth.

It’s wrong to say that the depthis unmeasurable but nobody till date has got
success to find the depth including Discovery Channel.

In the Journal of Geological Society of India

, it’s mentioned that, “It widens downward to 45 m into a sub-surfacewater
channel with steep/vertical walls. Several groundwater streams make a sort of
network.”

People are misinterpreting this information with 45 m as depth. However,it is
clearly mentioned that, “Its depth, beneath the water surface could notbe
measured.”

So, the sub-surface level is at 45 m which then has a network of tunnelsdue to
which technologies like SONAR and submarine fails to find the depth andthe
water never drought out.

Clean water

Usually, water stored in some place like ponds, lakes becomes dirty
andcontaminated. Lots of people bath in this water daily and even wash
theirclothes but the waterremains as clean as whistle.

Mythology

There are two mythologies about this as follows:

In Mahabharata, to quench the thirst of Draupadi, Bhim used his weapon toget
the water out of the Earth and Arjun used his arrow to make the way to it.

I believe this could be truebecause geologists have found the fossils of
elephants in that place whichdates to the same time as Mahabharata. Also, the
area nearby always has a scarcity of water so it completelymakes sense to dig
and get the water.

Lord Vishnu came out of this Kund. I haven’t read much about this andcan’t
relate as well.

Caves

There are a lot of cavespresent there which nobody could explore much due to
the presence of bats and snakes.

I tried to summarize my research on it. Thanks for reading!

Q9            Why do schools teach algebra, trigonometry, and calculuswhen
nobody even uses it?

A9            Andrew McGregor PerformanceMeasurement Lead at Fastly (company)
(2019–present) Wed

Two things:

Some people do use their mathematics. More than you seem to think. For example,
I’ve seen a carpenter usingtrigonometry when laying out a roof structure… and
that’s not what you’dnormally think of as a heavy-math trade. But he had a
scientific calculatoramong his tools.

So, given that some people usemathematics, they need to start learning it in
school. There’s no way to know who in the class will useit and who won’t, and
in general the more of the population who understandmathematics… especially
statistics… the better.

Q10         When most of the people feel depressed and weird for initialyears
after marriage, then why do they get married in the first place?

A10          D D Rishi Former IRS |Advocate | LL. M.,Ph.D. (Law) | Tue

Seeing everyone getting married from our childhood, we are conditioned into
thinkingthat everyone must have a sex partner and there can't be a life without
that.It is only after a few months into marriage we realize that it was a
falsebelief.

Similarly, everyone drinking or smoking knows that it will haveill-consequences
for his health but he still does it.

We tend to think that though it may be happening with the whole world, itwill
not happen with us.
