BEING  A COMPILATION THERE MAY  BE ERRORS

Q1            Whatplace is fun as a tourist but hell as a resident?

A1            Shaunak BhattacharjeeeSoftware Engineer | Traveller | Foodie Sun

In the hill station of Darjeeling, there is a famous toy train ride which
isdeclared as a heritage by UNESCO. The journey starts from Siliguri with a
seven and a halfhours uphill ride to India's highest railway station at
Ghoomfollowed by Darjeeling. The toy train ride is as beautiful as it can get,
thelandscapes that you see during the journey is beautiful and naturally, there
is a huge demand for thistoy train ride even though it is more expensive than a
private cab.

I always wanted to get this toy train ride, even though it took doublethe time
to reach compared to a private car but I never got a ticket! Such isthe demand
for it. So I only admire the sightings of the train during myjourney up the
hills. And that's when I see a really bad thing for which myheart goes out to
the local residents.

The toy train runs on a steamengine. Coal is burnt to fuel the train and that,
in turn, generates a huge amount of smoke and thissmoke enters the houses of
the residents through their windows and doors. I cannot imagine the
dailyproblem they might be going through! The train just appears out of nowhere
andno sooner do you hear the engine's sound than you will have your room full
ofsmoke and carbon monoxide.

The train looks really beautiful, the ride is a superb experience but itis a
hell of an experience for the residents living over there.

My note- Similar is the trainjourney from Ooty and Coonoor. The passenger
tickets are sold out in 5minutes, and remaining have to wait  forthe next
train. Mostly for return, Taxi may be waiting at Coonoor. Very fewride full
distance up to Mettupalayam. But ticket is priced normal and it isdiesel
engine. Meter gauge route. No toilets and catering in the train. It isalso
called toy train.

Q2            Hasanyone had any success using onion juice to regrow their hair?

A2            Lucia Garcia Worked atHospitals10h

Onion is a nutrient-rich vegetable with medical value. In many countries, onion
is called "VegetableQueen".According to WHO statistics, an average of one in
sixpeople suffers from hair loss in the world.

Fortunately, onions provide us with a simple and safe natural remedy thathas
been used since ancient times.

Hair contains the antioxidant enzyme catalase, and without this compound, hair
can easily turn gray and fall out.

Onions are rich in the antioxidant enzyme catalase. Extracting onion juice and
thengently applying it to bald scalp can optimize the hair growth cycle
andeffectively treat hair loss.

Onions are the only vegetables that contain prostaglandin A.Prostaglandin A is
a natural vasodilator, which can dilate blood vessels, reduce blood viscosity
and promote blood circulation.

Therefore, applying onion juice rich in prostaglandin A directly on thebald
scalp can strengthen the nutrition of hair follicles, reduce hair loss
andstimulate hair growth.

In addition, onion juice also contains nutrients such as sulfide, flavonoids,
carotene, vitamin B1, vitamin B2, vitamin C, vitamin E, etc. Thecombination of
these nutrients has a very good nourishing effect on scalpcells.

It is worth mentioning that the darker purple onion works best for
hairloss.Clinical experience shows that within one to two months, 70% to 80%
ofpeople can regrow new hair if onion juice is used twice a day.

My note- Consult  your dermatologistbefore using onion juice on hair.

Q3            Whatis your view on an alternate model to Sr. living homes by
adopting a poorcouple from rural India to live and take care of financially
independent old"childless" couples?

A3            GopalkrishnaVishwanath True Indian, who feels at home anywhere in
India. Mon

Not a bad idea. I am in favor of this. But the couple must bevetted by some
organization. Interviews must be conducted and the parties mustbe satisfied
that they will be comfortable with each other.

I already know of some people who are doing this unofficially. But they choose
a couple who arein some way related to them or known to them for many years
andcompletely trustworthy.

In some cases, the children of an old couple living abroad have arrangedthis.
But this is practicalonly if there is enough space in the house and both
couples can have someprivacy too.

There must be cultural matching too and some legal protections in placefor both
couples. A formal agreement too must be prepared and signed with allterms and
conditions listed out and agreed to by both couples and also endorsedby the
children or heirs of the old couple who may be living abroad.

The idea can work but there are difficulties and risks too. But there are
difficulties and risks in livingalone too. Each couple must decide whether this
arrangement can be considered.

Q4            Howcome South Indians tend to be skinnier than North Indians? I
notice a lot morechubby Punjabis and other North Indian guys.

A4            Saketam StudiesBachelor of Technology Degrees at Indian Institute
of Information Technology,Kancheepuram ( (Expected 2024)Feb 18

I think only from Punjab, youwill get to see more chubby and well-built people,
the reason might be theirdiet. And the state is relatively richer than
manyIndian states which results in low Malnutrition.

But, Average South Indians (Along with Punjab, Maharashtra) are moreobese than
other parts of India, so, you are wrong.

I think the factors affecting are:Poverty.    Carbohydrates and Fats intake in
Diet.    Work done by the people.

Coming to the Poverty: You cansee Hindi Belt has high poverty and low GDP per
capita, so this results in nointake of proper diet, and results in Malnutrition.

And coming to the Hindi Belt people, they work hard (Physical work),while in
other parts people do not do that much Physical hard work. EvenMuslims come
under this category but they also take Non-Veg foods in theirdiets.

My note- In Kerala people fromTrichur area are wellbuilt than from other parts.

Q5            Ifwives could read their husbands minds, what percentage of their
marriages wouldquickly end up on the rocks?

A5            GopalkrishnaVishwanath Never dated any one and yet happily
married.8h

There is no “If” in our case. After being together for nearly 47 years, there
isno way I can keep my thoughts secret from her. She reads my mind like a
book.My body language is as familiar to her as our native tongue. She can
accuratelyread every single facial expression and body gesture. Even my
silences are pregnantwith meaning for her.

If she still has any doubts she knows how to make me spill the beans. She uses
hydraulic power(popularly called tears) to make me tell her. Attempts to
keepanything secret from her are impossible. The only thing I can keepsecret
from her is what she is not interested in knowing about.

I have lost count of how many times she has said to me “I know what youare
thinking!” And, she is right. So I don’t wait for her to ask me. I tell hermy
thoughts before she can read them.

So if we could survive for so long as a couple I see no danger of ourmarriage
ending up on the rocks.

In a successful marriage, husbands and wives soon learn to read others’minds.

Q6            Whydon’t Europeans use clothes dryers?

A6            Tracey O ́Brien,former Language Teacher Since 1988-present
Answered 50m ago

Countries which have a lot of rain such as Ireland and The UK do useclothes
dryers but hot countries don´t need them as they can dry their clothes on a
clothes line inthe sun. Its more economical and ecological.

Q7            Whyhumans don't have strong nails?

A7            Ken Saladin Formerprofessor of histology (microscopic anatomy)22h

Because they would provide no adaptive advantage—our ancestors had no need of
them. Furthermore, they would make the fingertipsless sensitive and make it
harder to finely manipulate things. Nails serve to enhance tactilesensitivity
of the fleshy pads of the finger and toe tips, andthat’s a much greater
advantage than thicker nails or claws would be.

Q8            Isdrinking lemon water good or bad for one who wants to get
pregnant?

A8            Lucia Garcia Worked atHospitals Feb 18

Lemon water contains a lot of vitamin C. According to the United
StatesDepartment for Agriculture database, the juice from one lemon contains
around30 mg of vitamin C.

Regularly drinking lemon water rich in vitamin C is very helpful toimprove the
quality of sperm and eggs, and give birth to a healthy and smartbaby.

Vitamin C is a natural antioxidant that scavenges harmful free radicalsand
protects eggs and sperm from free radical damage.

Vitamin C can promote the development of follicles, increase the numberand
motility of sperm, enhance fertility and chances of conception.

Vitamin C can help women who are trying to conceive to improve the
pelvicenvironment to increase ovarian function.

Lemon juice is one of the most medicinal juices. It is also rich
incarbohydrates, vitamin A, vitamin B1, vitamin B2, citric acid, malic acid,
andminerals such as calcium, potassium, phosphorus, and iron.

My note- Always have familydoctor opinion before drinking lemon juice regularly.

Q9            Howare root canals bad for you?

A9            Steven Haddock LL.B.degree, 25 years in litigation,
administrative law, collections, bankrupty andprofessional regulation Feb 16

It’s more expensive in the shortrun.

A root canal will run you about $800. An extraction is less thanhalf that and
works just as well except, of course, you don’t have a tooth anymore.

It may even be cheaper in the long run. A crown for a root canal is about $750
and if you don’thave one the tooth will most likely crack. However, it can
crackwith a crown too - it just takes longer. That means extraction too, so
you’vespent $1,500 for nothing. I’ve lost three crowns over the years where the
toothhad to be extracted anyway.

Missing teeth can have their own problems. The adjoining teeth may leaninto the
hole, and the tooth opposite may actually grow into the hole.

My note- In Chennai, 99%dentists suggest for root canal than extraction of
tooth. Where as rootcanal cost only Rs 2000-00, crown cost well above3800-00.
It is with normal dentists. More established ones may charge doublethe rates.
I have found root canal with crown is good though touch the pursemore.

Q10         Whycan't blood be taken from the earlobe instead of the finger for
blood sugartests? There are far fewer nerves in the ear lobe than the fingertip
and aprick there is almost completely painless.

A10          Tomaž Vargazon PracticingatheistFeb 9

It can. How do you thinkdiabetics without hands control their blood sugar?
Well, ears are an option.

A more modern solution looks like this, a patch on your arm collects dataand
you read the results with a phone app or else a specially designed device

However, since it’s a little moredifficult to see your ears than your fingers,
and a little easier to manipulateyour fingers than your ears, fingers are the
preffered choice to collect small drops. You’re less likely toleave a mess
behind too.

You can, of course, use other body parts at our leisure. Some may hurtless,
others may hurt more than fingers. The pain with modern pricks is so minimal
andthe amount of blood so minute it doesn’t really enter the equation.

My note- Now comparativelyprice is less to 100 strip packs of accucheck. About
1200-00.

Q11         Whatdo most of the Indians do wrong in terms of retirement?

A11          Gopalkrishna VishwanathTrue Indian, who feels at home anywhere in
India. Updated 1y

Not preparing for it or even thinking about it in during their highearning
years. Not realizing how serious the ravages of inflation can be.Trusting their
bodies too muchand not mentally preparing for sudden surprises that take a toll
on theirhealth. They believe “that cannot happen to me” until it is toolate.

Depending totally on theirchildren to take care of them when they are old.

Not preparing for the sudden departure of their spouse and planning aheadfor
how the surviving partner will manage.

Not reconciling with the loss of “importance” once they retire andexpecting the
same reverential/deferential treatment from everyone around them.

Not leaving a clear will and creating a problem for the nextgeneration.
Constantly living in the past instead of living inthe present and being
optimistic about the future.  Not planning what to do with all the timethey
have at their disposal. (Thanks to Priyanka for suggesting this in hercomment.)

My note- I have seen manybossing their staff  even after they became FORMER,
and some maintain theopinion Boss is always right after they became former,
considering even friends and relatives  as subordinate.

Q12         Areyou able to keep your work desk clean always?

A12          Gopala Krishnan, formerAssistant General Manager 1996-2004 at
Department of Telecom (1966-2004)Answeredjust now

I hope the question is aboutworking table in office.Keeping it in mind is my
answer. Practically it is very difficult. If table has to be kept neat, work
would not be progressing. One can keep the table neat whileoffice hours getting
closed. By the time, most hard working would getexhausted. My experience was so.
