Q1            Why does dust settleon any glass object?

A1            Arun Lohia, Cashier atRegional Rural Banks (2008-present)
Answered Tue

A Mirror Or Window Polished By A Dry Cloth On A Dry Day Soon BecomesDusty. When
glass isrubbed with a dry cloth, the friction creates charged static
electricity;this, in turn, attracts small non-charged particles of dust.

Q2            What’s the salary ofIndian Railways doctors?

A2            Mohammad Talha Azam FormerDoctor at Indian Railways (2021–2021)
Updated Mar 18

The term “salary" is a very *shallow description* for a clinician'sjob in the
Indian railways.

I worked as a contractual medical practitioner in the year 2021 atChittaranjan
Locomotive Works,WB.

All thanks to covid there were huge vacancies everywhere for
doctors. However, there was literally no work ( at least during the phase I
worked there).Therewas hardly 10–12 hours of work the whole week.

It would either be an emergency duty someday or OPD for 2–3 hours eachdivided
over 3–4 days.

This was the room I was provided upon arrival at a cost of just Rs.80/day.

The beauty of this small town and the peace it had was absolutelyunparalleled.

Now coming to the question, asan entry level medical officer you get paid a
Salary of 75k which after taxbecomes around 65k ;)

P.S - I was also offered a 3BHK House later at a very low cost!. Railways is
not for those who want tochurn money but for those who want to have a good work
life balance !

Edit: I was talking about the railways in general and not the town as awhole.
As far as the town Chittaranjan is concerned you would get bored if youare a
party person or the one who likes to go out too much. But if you want alife away
from all the chaos and noisy surroundings then you can give it a tryand I bet
you won't regret.I have seen people and that too doctors who cameback from
places like Mumbai and Bangalore to settle in that particular area. Sowhether
you would like the town or not is quite a subjective thing.

Q4            What affects light bulbefficiency, and why are some light bulbs
more efficient than others?

A4            Brett Bergan BuildingPC's for 25 yearsMar 3

LED efficiency is insane. Butthat is one of its drawbacks.

Because it is a “light-emitting diode” the LED is designed to output
onewavelength of light (not entirely unlike a laser). As a result, extremely
bright light can begenerated with a small amount of wattage.

What could be wrong with that? Well, the light quality can suffer whenthe light
being used is a single wavelength. Blue LED’s are a fairly recent invention and
use galliumnitride as a substrate. Mixing substrates in an LED to get a
desirablewhite is a difficult process that has only recently (within the last
ten years)become well established and ported to mainstream manufacturing.

We have discussed why a 3W LEDcan output as much visible light as a 60W
incandescent. But why are incandescent bulbs so inefficient? The reasonthey
require so much power for relatively little light is that filaments
aresuperheated blackbody radiators that output most of their energy in
theinfrared spectrum.

With a spectrum typical of a 60W incandescent, a 3000K blackbody outputs95% of
its energy in wavelengths of light that are invisible. In other word 57Wis used
to generate infrared light (as heat) while the remaining 3W actuallyproduces
light that can be seen with the eye.

Since LED’s emit actual photonsat a predetermined wavelength, almost the the
entire 3W they use is to output visible light. Yes, LEDs do get warm, sothey
have some thermal losses due to electrical resistance, but this is verysmall.

Consequently incandescent bulbs output about 15 lumens per watt, whileLED
lighting typically exceeds 100 lumens per watt.

Q5            Why don't rich peoplechoose to get Lasik/Lasek surgery while
still wearing glasses?

A5            Aishwarya Kher ScientificMind | Curious Brain | Optimistic |

I got Lasik eye surgery donefor both my eyes in 2013. I wasnear sighted with
around (-) 2.5 in both eyes. I had been wearing boringglasses since 9 years
before surgery.

I wasn’t super rich, was just out of MBA college and had landed my firstjob.

The few minutes procedure costme ~ ₹40,000 (~$530) back then in Pune, India.
Wasn’t too expensive in my view.

So money is not the constraint here. Fear of the unknown is whatrestricts
people. Eyes are the most precious parts of our body, that let usperceive the
world in unique ways. It’s totally understandable if many of us consider this
procedurepotentially risky.

I hope my experience inspires the rich as well.

I was very determined since high school to get this surgery done someday.
Glasses were hampering my confidence level big time. Tried contact lensesbut
they come with several rules.

On the surgery day, there were 4 of us in the waiting room - all youngfolks
below 25. None of them looked rich. The hospital staff administered some
anesthetic dropsinto our eyes.

It did pain for a while post-surgery, I wouldn’t lie, because they keptthe
eyelids forcibly open for a few seconds to focus the laser beam.
However, depends on each person’s sensitivity. Mine was higher than others.

I kept my eyes closed foraround 15 hours, and could comfortably open after
getting a good night’s sleepand some medication.

What a perfect looking new world it was!! The pain was totally worth it.
I’mglad I took that decision at 23. I’m not the first in my family. My
mom’ssister got Lasik done before her wedding in the 90s.

Before finalizing the surgery, these criterias have to be met irrespective of
your financial status:

You should be 18+

Your eye power has to be constant for a couple of years

Not sure if the procedure or technology has changed in recent times, butI’m
sure it must be better and simpler than what it was in 2013.

Q6            Where are the originalvedas kept?

A6            Vishnu Kumar IAM ThatIAM at The Universe (1901–present)Mar 6

The oldest available Vedictablets are held by the British, the French and the
Germans in their respectivemuseums and safe vaults.

Many of the early tablets that were excavated from round the worldincluding
present day Syria, Iraq, India, Pakistan, Turkey, were sold out toprivate
bidders.

In addition, several of the remaining ancient Vedic tablets dating tobetween
1800 BCE and 1200 BCE have not been fully deciphered and released tothe public,
for reasons unknown.

Note: Attached image is a letter written by Mitanni King Tushratta inakkadian
cuneiform to Egyptian Pharaoh Amenhotep quoting the Rig Vedic Hymn1.48.1.So
that is the answer.

Q7            Did anybody get the"Consider for auto upgradation" privilege
while travelling in IndianRailways? How does it work?

A7            Divya Sharma Lives inIndia (1994–present)Mar 12

Once I was traveling fromNagpur to Delhi. I didn’t have alot of money then and
for the first time I had booked sleeper class for such a longjourney (about 15
to 17 hours).

I never booked sleeper class for (solo) long journeys (8+ hours) becausethe
washrooms are generally never clean in sleeper class and due to safetyreasons.

Anyway, I was very apprehensive.

Anyway, I did get an upgradefrom sleeper to AC III tier without any extra
charges and I was the most elatedperson!

Finally!! I was so worried and I got such a big relief. I could sleeppeacefully.

But…

My happiness was short lived because my colleague who was traveling inthe same
train got an upgrade from AC 2 tier to AC 1 tier. Then I started wishing what
if I had booked AC 3 tier.Humans can never be satisfied :P

Q8            Why do the Japaneselove white rice so much? I mean, isn't it just
bland and tasteless?

A8            Erwin FormerCompulsive Writer Mar 18

Why do Americans love potatoes so much? I mean, isn’t it just bland
andtasteless?

Of course, that’s nonsense. Potatoes are neither bland nor tasteless. Andguess
what? Neither is rice.

Learn to savor your food moreand appreciate its flavors. Evenwater tastes
great, you probably just never paid enough attention to notice.

Q9            What parts of theMagna Carta are still used today?

A9            Clive GordonLives inLondon (1965–present) 31m

None. It’s been repealed inits entirety.

But part of that is because what’s still relevant has been incorporatedinto
other law, so the principles remain.

For example, the most famouspart is that no tax can be raised without the
consent of a great council. The council has evolved into Parliament, and
theBill of Rights 1689 prevents any law being made without the consent
ofParliament. And as you can’t effectively collect tax without there being a
lawabout it to make it legitimate and not be counted as theft, you can’t have
atax without Parliament legislating for it - which amounts to what Magna
Cartasaid.

Q10         What is something thegovernment of India will always remain bad at?

A10          Rohit VirmaniI LoveIndiaJan 10

This has really been happening for decades and the changing Governmenthas not
changed it, a bit.

Scene -1

A well laid, neat clean Road isdone.

Scene -2

After the Road is done, fewdays later( month or so) a contractor comes in and
breaks the Road & digs a big tunnel. The contractor has been given the jobto
lay pipelines/ cables(telephone/gas/sewage etc)

I don't really understand why all these pipelines, gas lines are notplanned
before hand. This is sheer waste of “Government money”, indirectlypublic money.

No Government has been able toadminister and address this problem. Some kind of
a scam is going on for years and it will continue to happen thisway.
