Pranam
The Greatness of Chidambaram like other temples have a masterpiece as
under and without any one of them what else can be the greatness?

In South India, five temples were built for each of the five elements.

Earth, Water, Fire, Air and Space. These are the Pancha Bhoota Sthalas. These
are temples of Lord Shiva.

“असित गिरि समं स्यात कज्जलं सिन्धु पात्रे सुरतरु वर शाखा लेखिनी पत्रमुर्वी

लिखति यदि ग्रहीत्वा शारदा सर्वकालम् तदपि तव गुणानांSमीश पारं न याती”

-Even if ink powder (Kajjalam) be a heap like a mountain, ocean be an ink
pot, a branch of Kalpataru (the famous tree of gods fulfilling all wishes)
be used as a pen (lekhani) with the entire Earth (Urvi) as writing paper
(patra) and even if Goddess Saraswati (Sharada) herself continues to write
for Eterniny (sarva kaalam) in your praise, She (Saraswati) will not be
able to fathom your virtues (Guna) and praise you befittingly.

The above shloka tries to explain the greatness of Shiva which cannot be
put to words irrespective of how hard you try.

This statue is placed at the entrance of the CERN laboratory Switzerland.

1. *Location: Center Point of world ‘s Magnetic Equator*– After 8 years
of research the western scientists have found out that the place where Lord
Nataraja’s big toe is placed is the centre point of world’s Magnetic
equator ( Google it). Also it is located at 11 degree latitude which means
that centrifugal force is directed upward towards Sky( Akash).
*Significance*: It means that this is an ideal location to free ourselves
from the earth’s magnetic influences. Looking at it spiritually one can
free themselves from the worldly influences and channelize our energies
upward which can assist our spiritual awakening

2. *5 Elements and Senses*: Nataraja temple at Chidambaram is one of the
“Pancha bootha” i.e. 5 temples representing the 5 elements. Out of these
Chidambaram represents the Sky(Akash). SriKalahasthi denotes Wind( Vayu).
Kanchi Ekambareswarar denotes Earth(Thal). All these 3 temples are located
in a straight line at 79 degrees 41 minutes Longitude. *Significance*:
These places were strategically the power centres destined to guide our
energies to achieve greatness by connecting human senses to the various
prime elements

3. *Architecture* : The temple architecture is believed to be pre cholan
and was conceived by the sage Patanjali , the greatest Yoga master
somewhere near 200 BC. The temple roof where one can sit and meditate has
21600 gold sheets which represent the number of breaths taken by a human
everyday and these gold sheets are connected using exactly 72000 gold nails
representing that many number of nerves (nadis) in the human body. Even
numerology has been taken care in designing the ponnambalam which
represents the heart and is tilted to the left. *Significance*: The temple
represents the connection of our cardiovascular and nervous system. In
simple terms, our breaths and nerves which are as pure and valuable as
gold. The cosmic connection of our body is well represented.

4. *9 Kalasas* on the Golden Roof represent the 9 types of Sakthi or
Energies.4 pillars holding the Kanagasabha representing the 4 Vedas. The 6
pillars at the Artha Mandapam represent the 6 types of Shastras. The 18
pillars in the adjacent Mandapam represent 18 Puranas. *Significance*: The
temple embodies the scriptures which means true knowledge can be attained
through it. The importance of the scriptures are also represented in
accordance with their stature in the architecture of this huge temple
complex.

5. A unique feature of this temple is the bejeweled image of Nataraja. It
depicts the Lord Shiva as the Lord of the dance Bharatanatyam and is one of
the few temples where Shiva is represented by an anthropomorphic murthi
rather than the classic, anionic Lingam. *Significance:* The Cosmic Dance
of Lord Nataraja symbolises the motion of the universe as sustained by Lord
Shiva.

1. *3 Forms of Shiva: *The gold-roofed stage is the sanctum sanctorum of
the Chidambaram temple and houses the Lord in three forms: The “Tangible
form” – the anthropomorphological form as an appearance of Lord Nataraja,
called the Sakala Thirumeni. The “Half-form” – the
semi-anthropomorphological form as the Crystal linga of
Chandramouleeswarar, the Sakala Nishkala Thirumeni And the “formless” – as
the Space in Chidambara Rahasyam, an empty space within the sanctum
sanctorum, the Nishkala Thirumeni.

The chidambaram rahasya unfolds when the priests remove the curtain behind
the Nataraja vigraham (idol). Once the curtain is removed you will see only
the hanging garland of bilva patra and nothing else. The meaning is that
once the screen of maya shielding our eyes is removed , we may realize our
true self. It simply means that only once you detach yourself from
illusions, ego and belongings, you may find inner peace and self realization.

Chidambaram temple embodies the following characteristics :

1) This temple is located at the Center Point of world 's Magnetic
Equator.( See above CERN).
2) Of the "Pancha bootha '' i.e. 5 temples, Chidambaram denotes the Skies.
Kalahasthi denotes Wind. Kanchi Ekambareswarar denotes land. All these 3
temples are located in a straight line at 79 degrees 41 minutes Longitude.
This can be verified using Google. An amazing fact & astronomical miracle !
3) Chidambaram temple is based on the Human Body having 9 Entrances
denoting 9 Entrances or Openings of the body.
4) Temple roof is made of 21600 gold sheets which denotes the 21600 breaths
taken by a human being every day (15 x 60 x 24 = 21600)
5) These 21600 gold sheets are fixed on the Gopuram using 72000 gold nails
which denote the total no. of Nadis (Nerves) in the human body. These
transfer energy to certain body parts that are invisible.
6) Thirumoolar states that man represents the shape of Shivalingam, which
represents Chidambaram which represents Sadashivam which represents HIS
dance ! .(thiruvilayadal Puranam verses 456.2 & 3 describe it as
velliambalam is head Madurai and Ponnambalam heart is chidambaram) .
7) "Ponnambalam " is placed slightly tilted towards the left. This
represents our Heart. To reach this, we need to climb 5 steps called
"Panchatshara padi " "Si, Va, Ya, Na, Ma '' are the 5 Panchatshara mantras.

The temple of :

1 Thiruvannamalai is Fire (Shi)

2 Kalahasti is Air (Va)} 79.41

3 Chidambaram is Space/Ether (Ya) } 79 degrees and 41 minutes
longitude Can be verified. (2.3 &4).

4 Kanchipuram is Earth (Na) } 79.41

{Air, sky and earth in ine line}

5 Thiruvanaikaval is Water (Ma) Thiruvanaikaval, Trichy -

                                   Together they form
“ Shivaya
Nama”

7A There are 4 pillars holding the Kanagasabha representing the 4 Vedas.
8) Ponnambalam has 28 pillars denoting the 28 "Ahamas "as well as the 28
methods to worship Lord Shiva. These 28 pillars support 64 +64 Roof Beams
which denote the 64 Arts. The cross beams represent the Blood Vessels
running across the Human body.
9) 9 Kalasas on the Golden Roof represent the 9 types of Sakthi or Energies.
The 6 pillars at the Artha Mantapa represent the 6 types of Sashtras.
The 18 pillars in the adjacent Mantapa represent 18 Puranams.
10) The dance of Lord Nataraja is described as Cosmic Dance by Western
Scientists.Whatever Science is propounding now has been stated by Hinduism
thousands of years ago.

Greatness Of Temple: Lord Shiva is in three forms in Chidambaram, as
visible idol form, formless as Akasha or space and form and formless as a
Spatika Linga. What is Chidambara Rahasyam – secret: There is small
entrance near Lord Sabanayaka in the Chit Saba. The screen is removed and
an arati is offered. There is nothing in a form inside. But there hangs a
golden Vilwa garland without a Murthi. The secret is that Lord is here as
Akasha which has no beginning or an end. This can be understood only by
experience. Of the Panchabhoodha Sthals, Chidambaram belongs to Akasha.
Chit + Ambaram= Chidambaram. Chit means wisdom. Ambaram means broad open
space not measurable. “We have nothing with us” is the lesson from this
philosophy. The reputation of Chidambaram is still greater, because it is
here that the hymns of three great Saivite Saints were discovered. They
sang thousands of hymns in many Shiva Sthals they visited. Where were they
for the use of the devotees? Tirunarayur Nambiandar Nambi and king
Tirumurai Kanda Chozhan fell at the feet of Lord Polla Pillayar – Vinayaka
to guide them in the matter. With the blessings of Lord Vinayaka, they
came to know that all these great spiritual literatures with the signatures
of the respective authors are hidden in this temple. They rushed to
Chidambaram and worshipped the authors with respectful festivals. They
found the palm leaves covered by anthill and mostly consumed by insects.
Yet they picked up the available full leaves and saved them. All these
invaluable spiritual literatures would have been totally lost but for the
painstaking and devout labour of Nambiyandar Nambigal and Tirumurai Kanda
Chozhan.

This is a temple where Brahma, Vishnu and Rudra grace the devotees
together. Saint Arunagirinathar had praised Lord Muruga of this temple in
ten of his Thirupugazh hymns. Many believe that Lord Nataraja is the
presiding deity of this temple. The presiding deity is Adhimoola Nathar in
the Linga form. Sages Patanjali and Vyakrapada wished that people of this
earth too should have the chance to view and enjoy the great dance of Lord
Shiva performed at Mount Kailash. They came to earth and sat in penance on
Adhimoolanathar for the purpose. Responding to their selfless penance for
the common people, Lord Shiva along with Tri Sahasra Muniswaras – 3000
sages came to this place and granted His dance darshan in Thai month
(JanuaryFebruary) on Poosam Star day at 12.00 a.m. These 3000 Muniswaras
then came to be known as Thillai Moovayiravar. They now hold the rights as
per the Apex court decision. KR IRS 9422
