KADAMPUZHATEMPLE Dear friends,
I had been to the Kadampuzha temple for Muttarukkalvazhipadu recently. It was along with visit to other temples in Palghat area. Iwent with my wife and son and had my stay in Kapilavasthu residency at Palghatvery close to KSRTC bus stand. They have a vegetarian residency close to itowned by them with AC hall also. Complimentary breakfast is given, night tiffinis offered at room for fixed rate, with specific items. Room service is there.Though the rent above Rs 3300 for three people is slightly high for a 3 bedroom AC room, still it is somewhat worthy for the neatness maintained. We had a good taxi driver previously known duringearly visits of my wife with her brothers. 18-00 rupees per KM and separate Bata/day.We started early morning 5.00 AM to Kadaampuzha temple. It is 2.5 hours drive fromPalghat. In Chennai per KM for taxi is Rs 16-00 only I had been to Kadampuzha two times earlier during1997. During the last 25 years a lot of changes have occurred in the temple andtemple premises. I list a few of them coming to my memory now 1. We can purchase coconuts either from inside thetemple from the counter or from outside. Earlier it was only from outsideshops. 2. We have to write in a separate sheet of paper ourdetails – Name, star, purpose of muttarukkal. In shops, they themselves write andgive in paper. In the counter, paper is offered, we ourselves have to write. Inthe counter receipt is given for the offering fee, if we have taken coconut byus. If taken from counter price is added. 3. Since we had gone in the morning much rush was not there. 4. Parking area for Taxi/car is newly provided inaddition to the one near entrance. 5 All steps are renovated so that getting down is easy. 6. Counter area is expanded with a lot of space andnew counters are erected in a new building. 7. For the queue area shelter is provided after gettingdown the steps. Staffs are arranged for guidance for wetting coconuts, washinghands and legs, sitting in the queue bench nearly provided. Arrangement isneat. Staff collects money for thedialysis center proposed to open soon, if given voluntarily. 8. After the large queue area steps are provided toenter a small queue area near sanctum. We had to be in the queue for about fiveminutes only. 9. In the sanctum the priest simply breaks thecoconuts and if defective, gives the instructions. 10 Two staff stands on both sides of sanctum entrance, collect coconuts and read names, stars, and purpose of muttarukkal. Earlier thepriest himself was doing it. 11. If we desire, we can offer the coconuts afterbreaking to temple itself. Some shops also purchase broken coconuts. 12. Now the Devi is provided with an anki. So offeringlike skirt to Devi can be adorned on it. My wife had taken a skirt to Devi. Itwas adorned on Devi in our presence. 13. Now prasadam is given from an outside area bypriest. 14 The entire premises gives a new look and we can circumambulatearound sanctum. 15. Full guidance is given by staff deployed aroundthe temple 16. An excellent vegetarian restaurant in a newbuilding is opened near temple. The food items are delicious. A number of shops selling Devi photos framed indifferent ways can be obtained from there. After full satisfaction of muttarukkal, we had tiffinand then started to Guruvayoor. My Guruvayoor experience and other templevisits I will write in next posting. -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "Thatha_Patty" group.
