TEMPLE VISITS IN PALAKKAD Recently Ihad been to the Kuladeivam Ganapathi temple of my wife at Vadakke Gramam inMelarcode and Tirunjettor Bhagavathi temple where my wife’s late father wasadimai. I am to these two temples for the first time, since normally my wife went with her brothers and their families.
We started morning7 AM from Palakkad in taxi. At Bhagavathi temple I offered adimai panam for herand me. But the money was collected in office, and a receipt is given which waskept in the top step to sanctum, Skirt was adorned to Devi, and upadevathaswere offered 2nd cloth. In thistemple sastha with his wives Poorna and Pushkala are installed as three cylindrical idols inmetal. This was something new to me. After performing archana we went toMelarcode. The templeand premises are very neat. Other than us only local devotees were in temple inthe early morning. Melarcode isclose by about 3-4 KMs, and Mahaganapathi is agraharam deity. It was the newidol installed, anniversary day. While we reached the temple, poojas were goingone, chamakam recitation was going on. The temple had been fully renovated and gave a goodappearance. It was preferred to wear dhoti inside the temple. Afterworshipping for some time, we had been to relatives of my wife. The home herfather owned was demolished before anyear, and there is a proposal to construct a new home by all. Most agraharamhomes gave front appearance as agraharam home, but inside total renovations aredone as modern home. Some have totally constructed new home. I could observe inone home, path for entrance of cows on side. The house was not maintained and entranceclosed. The street is wide and neat. There were three or four foreign returnediyers, who spoke with my son. We had feastin the samooha matam on account of Prathishta dinam. It was also one of the agraharam home. A gooddonation was given and we left for Palghat by 1 PM. Evening we had visits tokasi viswanatha temple and Manapulli kavu temple. I will cover them in nextposting.
