PranamQ1 Mercury is a metal and can conduct electricity. Mercury is the
only common metal which is liquid at ordinary temperatures. Mercury is
sometimes called quicksilver. It is a heavy, silvery-white liquid metal. It is
a rather poor conductor of heat if compared with other metals but it is a fair
conductor of electricity. It alloys easily with many metals, such as gold,
silver, and tin. These alloys are called amalgams. The most important mercury
salts are mercuric chloride HgCl2 (corrosive sublimate - a violent poison),
mercuric chloride Hg2Cl2 (calomel, still used in medicine occasionally),
mercury fulminate (Hg(ONC)2, a detonator used in explosives) and mercuric
sulphide (HgS, vermillion, a high-grade paint pigment). (Applications) Mercury
metal has many uses. Because of its high density it is used in barometers and
manometers. It is extensively used in thermometers, thanks to its high rate of
thermal expansion that is fairly constant over a wide temperature range. Its
ease in amalgamating with gold is used in the recovery of gold from its ores.
Industry uses mercury metal as a liquid electrode in the manufacture of
chlorine and sodium hydroxide by electrolysis of brine. Mercury is still used
in some electrical gear, such as switches and rectifiers, which need to be
reliable, and for industrial catalysis. Much less mercury is now used in
consumer batteries and fluorescent lighting, but it has not been entirely
eliminated. Mercury compounds have many uses. Calomel (mercurous chloride,
Hg2Cl2) is used as a standard in electrochemical measurements and in medicine
as a purgative. Mercuric chloride (corrosive sublimate, HgCl2) is used as an
insecticide, in rat poison, and as a disinfectant. Mercuric oxide is used in
skin ointments. Mercuric sulphate is used as a catalyst in organic chemistry.
Vermilion, a red pigment, is mercuric sulphide; another crystalline form of the
sulphide (also used as a pigment) is black. Mercury fulminate, Hg(CNO)2, is
used as a detonator. (Mercury in the environment) Mercury occurs uncombined in
nature to a limited extent. It rarely occurs free in nature and is found mainly
in cinnabar ore (HgS) in Spain, Russia, Italy, China and Slovenia. World
production of mercury is around 8.000 tonnes per year. Mineable reserves are
around 600.000 tonnes. Mercury is a compound that can be found naturally in the
environment. It can be found in metal form, as mercury salts or as organic
mercury compounds.
Mercury enters the environment as a result of normal breakdown of minerals in
rocks and soil through exposure to wind and water. Release of mercury from
natural sources has remained fairly the same over the years. Still mercury
concentrations in the environment are increasing; this is ascribed to human
activity. Most of the mercury released from human activities is released into
air, through fossil fuel combustion, mining, smelting and solid waste
combustion. Some forms of human activity release mercury directly into soil or
water, for instance the application of agricultural fertilizers and industrial
wastewater disposal. All mercury that is released in the environment will
eventually end up in soils or surface waters.
Q2 I do not understand the meaning of under-rated . Every year all the
places mentioned above including the peak of Odisha Deomali as per tourism
ministry notes receives 2 to 3 millions , and during peak corona receives 20000
visitors. Hence who underrated it?.
Q3 Public hospitals educate the doctors and not private as many cross
sections of the disease can only be seen in General hospitals. So young doctors
are advised to work in the early part of practice to be resident in a public
hospital.
Q5 Family recipe of Bhuvana Rameswar is not the one that of many and yet a
chat is negotiated as cast in media FB etyc.
Q7 Washing inside out or as such does not matter; the rotational wash can
remove the dirt. But in African nations there are insects catching the clothes
when spread over to dry and hence all clothes even if a kerchief, had to be
ironed out before wearing.
Q8 What is the evidence for the Ape theory as origin; Lucy was the ape?.

Probably a question for question’s sake. All solid state metals conduct
electricity. Some metal wires have lesserconductivity. Some metals have more
conductivity but very costly. Some metalsare not rigid. Considering all aspects
copper and brass are considered best forelectric conduction. ACSR (Aluminium
conductor steel wire for reinforcing) isused for power conduction externally.
PVC insulated flexible Copper wire isused mostly in home wiring. Costly plugs
and sockets use brass for terminalconnection and switching through. Gold is
used in sensitive contacts inequipment by different organizations.
Q2 Whichare the most under rated places in India having great tourist
attractions?
A2 Pavan Pafi Former Analyst at FidelityNational Financial

There are many under rated tourist places in India hereare a few:
1Chitrakoot, The Indian Niagara Falls
Yes, It is calledthe Indian Niagara Falls. The water flows here 365 days
without any stop. Thecolor and flow of water depends on seasons. The water
comes all the way from River Indravati.Boating is allowed only during summers.
2. Tirathgarh, Chattisgarh
It is Block typewaterfall and also all season tourism spot. The water here
comes from River Kanger. It isLocated near Jagdalpur.
3. Duduma Waterfall, Odisha
It is a majesticwaterfall located in Odisha-AndraBorder. Water plunges from
nearly 600 feet above and water fallsfrom all 3 sides of hills. The
accessibility to this place is a bit difficult.Be careful when you are here
because there are no safety measures or safety roadsat this place.
4. Deomali, Odisha
The highest peak ofOdisha 1672 m above mean sea levels situated Near
Semiliguda. It is one of thebest place to trek and enjoy the scenic beauty.
5. Sapua Dam, Odisha
To be very frankIndia itself is an underated place for tourism. Indians are
more attractedtowards western countries and visit them even though we have many
beautifulplaces than western countries. People who can’t afford foreign trips
visit Indian tourist places anddump all the garbage whereever they want. It is
we who should keepthe surroundings clean. Government should also install as
many dustbins aspossible near tourist places and clean regularly. Respective
State Govt shouldalso focus on developing the tourism.
Q3 Isit better to work in a public or private hospital?
A3 Rumi hospital Tue
After 6–7 years of working in private/corporate hospitals, recently I've joined
a government hospital to work in…..and the experience is totally different. I'm
answering this question as anoncologist.
The last I wasworking is in a corporate in Delhi. There used to 20–30 patients
in OPD perday. If some new patient comes to us with previous biopsy and scan
reports, ifthere is no doubt in the reports, radiation/ chemo starts from next
day. Ifpatient wants or we feel the patient needs admission, we do it
immediately. Butof course all these come at huge cost, like the treatment cost
of radiation(IGRT) was 2.5lac.
Now after I joinedthis government hospital, the first thing I asked my
colleagues is how muchtime it takes from we decide to give radiation to
starting radiation treatment;& they laughed &told “at least 2 months".
I was shocked. Ithought may be the doctors aren't working enough, anyway I
won't let thathappen & start as early as possible……….(being a doctor, I had
thatmisconception).
Now, minimum…….I'm telling minimum patients inour OPD every day is 100. There
are 2 machines in this hospital& both are running so much overloaded that every
other day, the machinebreaks down & again restarts…… A doctor can workwith
extra capacity, but the machines can't. Hospital beds arealways full…… most of
the time we have to write referrals to other governmenthospitals for some time.
Similarly, getting a CT scan, MRI, biopsy date takes more than 1 month.
Thentreatment dates come after 2 months. We are helpless…… there are so
manypatients in queue that we just can't make it fast. Just I counsel the
patientabout the reality of the disease and treatment. Thepatients are so poor
that they can't afford anything else. Of courseall these comes at minimal cost,
like the maximum cost for radiation here(IGRT) is 18000rs & most of patients
are getting it for free due to somekind of BPL or government scheme cards they
have……
Working in both government and private hospitals are atotally different
experience.
Q4 Howcan I get food during train journey?
A4 Shaunak Bhattacharjeee SoftwareEngineer | Traveller | FoodieTue
Previously, I remember, getting good food on trains, especially while travelling
overnight was a nightmare. The foodpackets that you could order from IRCTC were
only good enough to fill yourstomach, ensuring you don't have to go to sleep
with a hungry stomach. The less we talk about thetaste or the quality, the
better.
However, times havenow changed and IRCTChas partnered up with third-party
restaurants that deliver food while you areon the train. One such app that I
have tried and tested out is Rail Restro. You can simply download theirapp,
enter your PNR number and pre-order your food and the same will bedelivered hot
and fresh to your seat. Don't worry, this isn't apromotional post; I have
actually tried it twice and it is really impressive.
Apart from Rail Restro, you have other options like PayTmwhich delivers food
from the same restaurant but viaa different medium. Domino'shave also partnered
up with IRCTC but their presence is less as they deliveronly to major railway
stations. But yes, getting good food is no longera trouble. You don't have to
rely on the tasteless, half-cooked food that isserved on the trains.
Q5 Whatis your favorite family recipe to cook, and why?
A5 Bhuvana Rameshwar Lives in Chennai/Ooty/Bengaluru (1979–present) Fri
The favourite family recipe is rice, sambar and potato frycombo.
This is an all timefavourite in our house. We have this on Fridays and festival
days usually as wedo not have non vegetarian dishes on these days . It is a
family traditionpassed on for many generations and we all love it.
It is our favouritehome food too after a long tour or after a homecoming of
children. It is, asimple combo of dishes favourite of all, youngsters to elders
and oftenaccompanied by yoghurt and lime pickle as a curd rice dish .
The rice we have isnon fragrant like ponni or sona masuri raw rice. The sambar
is made withvegetables like drumstick, ash pumpkin, brinjal , carrot, white
radish, squashor a mixture of various cut vegetables.
The potato fry iscalled as “kalyana” potato fry, as it is a common dish in
Tamil weddings wherevegetarian feast is served.

I have read allanswers on this question. When we wash inside out our garments
surely the dead skin got attached from thebody on wearing get detached than
putting them as we wear. In thecase of pillow covers, bed sheets and bed
spreads one can observe morefreshness when rolled and put in machine with
inside out. The same with under-garments.

Q7 Whatis the effect of washing clothes inside out?
A7 Gaurav Sharma, Cogitate...Answered Jul21, 2015
The benefits ofwashing clothes inside out are :
White shirts are precious. A single stain can takethem down. So to prevent them
from turning yellow or grey, you need to follow afew steps.
The benefits ofwashing clothes inside out are :
1) The garment goes through all the wear & tear ofwashing on the inner side &
does not affect the look (outside) - samegarment when dried in open (under sun)
in most countries fades - that fading is also on the innerside : leaving the
outer surface intact.
2) All the buttons, rivets, sequins etc on the face ofthe garment do not
undergo the grind of washing be it hand wash or machinewash.
3) Especially in hand wash the hot spots of dirt likecollars/cuffs get a good
scrub during the washing process & this helps inbetter cleaning of these areas,
since the dirt in these areas is stubborn &does not leave the garment easily.
4) In earlier days the color fastness of fabrics wasvery low & the garments
used to cross stain on other garments (in contactwith) during washing. This is
avoided or minimsed as the impression of crossstaining comes on the inner side,
sparing the face of the garment intact.
5) Rubbing of garments with another duringwashing creates friction & this
friction results in fuzziness, rough handfeel & pilling (small pin head kind of
structures on the surface) - washingthem inside out prevents this change in
physical appearance affecting theoutlook of the garment.
6) Also, it was a (mis)conception that cleaningthem inside out helps inbetter
cleaning - though there is no scientific base for it as the soapmolecules
attach to the dirt particles irrespective of the garment being washedin or out.
All this was doneto prolong the life of garment, extend it's wearability &
preserve the outlook for many years -basically to look as new even after dozens
of washes.
But in the world of disposable fashion I think it no longermatters anymore !!
2nd answer-Chukka Vishwavaram, ManagingDirector Answered Apr 21
White shirts areprecious. A single stain can take them down. So to prevent them
from turningyellow or grey, you need to follow a few steps.
If you want to wash in the washing machine, first ofall run an empty hot water
cycle at 90 degrees, with 1 cup of vinegar added toit. Let the machine finish
the cycle. The reason why we do this is simple, washing machine drum holds a lot
of dirt from repeated wash cycles. It mightalso hold dyes from previous washes
which might transfer to whites if washeddirectly. This vinegar hot wash cycle
cleans your washing machine drumthoroughly.
Now club all your whites together and wash them in60 degrees setting with
preferably a powder detergent and some borax. You canget borax easily on
Amazon. If the white clothes have any stains pretreat themfirst before adding
to the load.
As a final step, you can add blue or any opticalbrighteners to ensure perfect
whites. Remember that less is more.
Ifpossible dry them under the sun directly. Sun bleaches whites perfectly.
Sundrying ensures that your whites remain whites forever.
Finally iron them, with neither too much ortoo little heat. Just the right
amount of heat perfect for the garment.
Q8 Whatcame before apes in the human evolution path?
A8 Claire Jordan Degree in biology andfolklore; programmer, shop owner,
secretary on newspaper Thu
Basal catarrhine primates. Whether these qualify as monkeys ornot is a moot
point.
Basal simians split into New World monkeys and basalcatarrhines. Basal
catarrhines then split into Old World monkeys and apes.
If you see “monkey”as a valid taxonomic group which includes both Old and New
World monkeys, thenbasal catarrhines must also be considered to be monkeys,
meaning that apesevolved from monkeys.
If you see Old andNew World monkeys as only superficially similar and not
closely related, likeEurasian and Australian magpies, then basal catarrhines
were (probably) notmonkeys.
Q9 Areseptic tanks hard to maintain?
A9 Gopala Krishnan, former AssistantGeneral Manager 1996-2004 at
Department of Telecom (1966-2004) Answered justnow
In Chennai, Indiaon date, private lorries come and collect the waste, and dump
in remote areasin suburban areas, on intimating them from septic tanks. In
certain areas thereis pipes for waste liquids laid through center of the road
at depth andconnected to sea at remote locations, if my information is correct.
Waste linesfrom homes are suitably connected to it. In suburban areas also the
pipes arebeing laid now.
For the fear ofgetting septic tank gets filled, many use less water in toilets.
This creates block in pipes.Block clearing charges are three times the charge
for collecting waste fromseptic tank.
In cities there isnot much difficulty on date. Even in towns the waste
collection lorries areless. Most important, most septic tanks are constructed
as single tank up to70% of depth from top for easy collection of waste liquid.
Q10 Howdo I stop middle class sleeper and unreserved travellers
from entering 2AC and1AC? Why do these people want to taste comfort when they
are not willing tospend anything extra?
A10 Swaminathakrishna Pingale Former SeniorAudit Officer at Indian Audit
and Accounts Department Tue
Normally such people will not enter Ac coaches.Sometimes, Railway officials
returning to their towns after duty may enter andsit till they get down after
two three stations. If someone is disturbing youat your seat, you can complain
to the TTE.
My note- Waitlisted AC passengers sometimes stand outside the area near toilet
till theyareallotted a seat. This is my experience in Kerala. We take
unreserved 2ndAC tickets from stations, wait near entrance or with in AC
coach, till we get allotted a seat.
