BEING  ACOMPILATION THERE MAY  BE ERRORS

Q1            Why is living in Singapore sostressful even though it is a
developed country?

A1            Info Orb Answered by Dale P Lee UpdatedJun 17

I'm here to tellyou a secret. The Singaporegovernment has succeeded in turning
Singapore into a metropolitan city-state inless than 50 years. That is
certainly a great achievement. However, behind that, there isa dark side that is
only felt by the lower classes in our country. The elderly in Singapore still
have to work hard when they should enjoy thefruits of their hard work in old
age. This is only felt by low to middle income families whose salaries
aremostly used for house rent and expensive bills.

Here are the reasons in my opinion:

The first reason: Overpopulation. As of September2019, our population reached
5.8 million. The government predicts our country'spopulation could reach 6.9
million in 2030. The total land area of ourcountry is only 721 sq km. Its
population density is 8,274 people per squarekilometer. Imagine having to
jostle every time you go to work. Imagine a queueof people at lunch time.

The second reason: Transportation. During peakhours, the MRT train often breaks
down. Locals always joke that the governmentnever calls the problem a nuisance.
Instead, it is referred to as a train"fault". Simplyput, our MRT line has never
been built to support so many trains with afrequency of every 1-2 minutes. The
reason why our trains have tohave a frequency of 1-2 minutes is because there
are too many people waiting atthe station. This is a picture when the MRT
breakdown occurred. Scary huh?Imagine seeing this sight once a week on average
after a hard day's work.

The third reason: The old age is not happy . Or lessretired. The minimum
retirement age in Singapore is 62 legally. This means, your employer cannot
require you to retire before the age of 62 as long as youare a Singapore
citizen or Permanent Resident. Thereis a saying among the elderly here: "Work
to death".

In order to earn aliving in Singapore, one has to work until one can no longer
walk. Most of ourseniors work as cleaners in shopping malls or fast food
places. Some evencollect cardboard on the streets, others sell tissue. These
are just a few ofthe great examples wheremost of us in Singapore accept the
fact that in order to still earn an income,we have to literally work ourselves
to death.

Those are some ofthe reasons my version of why the stress level in Singapore is
quite high eventhough we are a developed country.

Q2            What are the best methods to relievestress?

A2            Narayana Health Health for all. Allfor health. May 6

You can manage stress in a few simple ways

The first step ofmanaging stress is finding out the root cause of stress -
because the stressmanagement methods will not be effective unless they address
the root cause. Sometimesa person may feel that he is stressed out because of a
certain situation, butthe underlying cause might be his attitude towards the
situation.

The second step is to eliminate the stress-causingreason, or trying to reduce
its intensity.

The third step isto modify your behavior and adopt some easy relaxing
techniques which are:

Be realistic - Do not set unrealistic targets; keep inmind that if you are
always pursuing perfection in everything, you will neverbe content and could
often be stressed.

Get help from others - Do not try to besuperman/superwoman. Ask yourself, “How
much I can do? Is the deadlinerealistic? Can I do it on my own?” and if you
need help never hesitate to askfor it.

Learn to say NO - “No is not always negative” Shedthe please-everyone attitude;
always consider whether it will comfortable foryou before making any commitment
or granting favor.

Learn time management - Do not get overwhelmedby trying to do everything at the
same time. Prioritize your activities andeliminate those which are not
necessary.

Spend time with friends and family. Spendingquality time with family members
and friends increases mental strength andinduces a sense of security and
belongingness. It can help you to fight stress.

Physical exercise promotes the release ofendorphins in the brain. These
endorphins interact with the receptors in yourbrain that reduce your perception
of pain perception and consequently stress.

Get enough sleep - Though the amount of sleeprequired varies from person to
person, it is important for everyone to getsufficient sleep. A sound sleep
helps your brain to restart and helps you tostay focused.

Clear your Ego - Switch from ‘Ego’ to ‘Easy go’. Theless egoistic you are, the
less are your chances to get stressed out bysetbacks.

Avoid negativity - Stay away from negative people, places and things. Read
inspirational/motivational books.

Listen to music - The soothing power of music iswell-established. Listening to
music can have a tremendously relaxing effect onour mind and body, especially
slow, quiet classical music.

Practice self-affirmation - Sometimes it helps toconvince yourself that you are
not stressed. Tell yourself “No stressor caninduce stress in me, I am the
master of my life and I have all the abilities tocombat stress”

Get some ‘Me Time’- Reserve at least half an hour every day for yourown. Use
this time to be creative and to process your thoughts and feelingswithout
external influence.

Meditation - Meditation can produce a deep stateof relaxation and a tranquil
mind. During meditation, you focus your attentionand eliminate the stream of
jumbled thoughts that may be crowding your mind andcausing stress.

Get help from experts - Stress can be hard to dealwith on your own. It is okay
to seek help if you need it. Talk to your doctorabout the stress you are
feeling and how it affects you. A licensed counseloror other health
professionals can help you find ways to reduce stress symptoms.

Reduce expectations. Do not crave for results.Focus on your work/ task and give
it your best effort - then leave the resultto nature.

Q3            In human biology, which is the most complexsystem to study?

A3            Ken Saladin Former professor ofhistology (microscopic anatomy) 23h

The nervous system, unquestionably.

I have writtenchapters on every one of the human organ systems, but the nervous
system takes me 5 of the26 chapters in my main book.I once team-taught a
neuroanatomy coursewith a psychologist-neurophysiologist. I knew neurons and
spinal cord betterthan he did, but when it came to the cerebellum and cerebrum,
he was the top dog. When he left to take a job elsewhere, I was unable to teach
that on my ownbecause of its complexity.

I couldlecture on it and show nice slides, but in class or outside, if a
student askedme a question, I could not answer. Anyone of my peergroup can
write and deliver a lecture, but off script, you need deeperunderstanding to be
conversant in the subject and able to explain it beyond thelevel of the
lecture. I just couldn’t master it. The complexity of functional
neuralcircuitry, with signal pathways changing with every task
state, overwhelmed me. I discontinued the course and dropped it from the
curriculum.

Q4            How can I air condition a 2180 sq ftspace? What is the rating of
AC should I have to use here, and which type issuitable for this kind of
scenario?

A4            AdyTheVFXGuy 1h

Central air conditioning would be the best solutionas it might cost more at the
starting bthis ut would be cost effective in thelong run.

This would need anywhere from 9.5 tons of cooling to 3.5tones of cooling but if
talking about india 9.2would be a sweet spot but it depends if the area is
shaded or not and does itinclude kitchen or not and stuff

Q5            Why does current decrease whenresistance increases?

A5            Matthew Globe Former Retired atLittlejohn-Reuland (1987–2016)11mo

>From Ohm’s Law, I=E/R, so asresistance increases, current decreases, similar
>to water flow, as you restricta fluid line by closing a faucet partially, for
>example, the flow of liquid isreduced

Q6            What is the best side dish forsambar rice?

A6            Bhuvana Rameshwar Tamil culture and heritageJun 16

Side dish forsambar rice..Restaurantsgive banana chips. Some give papads.
Pickle is also served.

But at home wealways make “kalyanapotato” (wedding feast potatoes).

It is a shallow frydish of boiled potatoes fried with chopped onions, tomatoes,
little sambarpowder, crushed garlic and curry leaves. We start with a tempering
of mustardseeds, broken urad dhal, asafoetida and curry leaves. Then go in the
onionstomatoes, turmeric, sambar powder potato cubes and salt with drinking of
water. When done we toast with peeled and crushed garlic. The roasting garlic
addaroma through the house.

Some choppedcoriander leaves can be used as a final garnish.A little home made
fresh mangopickle adds to the taste. Your sambar rice is gone in minutes.

Q7            Can connecting a thicker wire to athinner wire cause electrical
problems?

A7            Gopala Krishnan,Former AssistantGeneral Manager 1996-2004 at
Department of Telecom (1966–2004)Just now

Generally thinnerwire is used for less current carrying condition. Suppose we
have a thickerwire connected 15 Amps socket. Using an adapter we can connect
the thinner wireconnected 5 Amps equipment. No problem.

However in acircuit of 15 Amps connecting thicker wire connecting with a
thinner wire to the circuitpoint socket is harmful

Q8            What is the one thing you want tochange about today's generation?

A8            Krishna Suryakanth Former Mentor atLife and Living (2018–2020)Jun

When was the lasttime you purchased a refill for you pen? Chances of you
keeping a pen till youempty the refill is less. Even if you empty the refill,
you buy a new pen, not refill.

Is this just aboutthe pen? No. Not really. How many of us fix our footwear by
going to the belowshoe repairers? Hardly a few. This profession is endangered
profession.

Is this just aboutmaterialistic things? No. Not at all. Today's generation has
the same attitudeforwards relationships. An issue, a misunderstanding, a
dislike, an argument isenough to switch to new partner.

Whether it is a pen or a person, people have lost thepatience and interest to
fix the issues.

My note- Now refill use is practically nil in Indiabecause it costs 90% of pen.
Repair people have become less in India, due tothe fact that they cannot make
out a living. Umbrella and footwear have become use and throw items.

Q9            Who created clock towers in Indiaand why?

A9            Atul Kumar Singh Parmar Director(2012–present) 2y

Most of the clock towers were erected during the Britishregime either by them
or by the ruling maharajas in themidst of the city to beautify the city and to
give time information to theinhabitants.

Q10         Why were clock towers built in oldentimes?

A10          Gopala Krishnan,Former AssistantGeneral Manager 1996-2004 at
Department of Telecom (1966–2004)Just now

I have gone throughthe answers to related questions. My conclusion is to know
the time to all. In my boyhood daysI knew clock towers were in centre of town.
Later clock towers startedappearing in important buildings like Government
buildings like Secretariat, colleges, collectorates, Major railway stations etc.
We could watch the timefrom all the four/three sides of the towers depend on
the location from adistance of about 300 metres. The towers were erected
occupying about 8′x8′area. In towns where such space is not available in the
centre of roads large clocks were provided onthe four sides of a pillar.

On those days veryfew had clocks at homes, or watches. Mechanical clocks were
installed and withnew technologies I understand they have been made digital if
the old parts arecorroded.

Clock tower is also an attraction to city. If at all onehas watch in hand, most
watch at clock tower while nearing it to see the time.

Q11         What are some of the interesting factsabout India?

A11          Aditya Ramula Fact is a fact! Updated5y

A small,self-sufficient and agriculturally rich village, Ankapur is a model for
allvillages in Telangana. Located in Armoor mandal on NH-63, 20 kilometres
awayfrom the district headquarters, the village is also known as ‘mini USA’ due
to all the urban facilitiesit boasts of.

Farmers here arefamous for having adopted modern farming methods in cultivating
commercialcrops like turmeric, maize and vegetables on a large scale. They
cultivatecommercial crops, as opposed to traditional ones like paddy, in a
district nowknown to be the rice bowl of Telangana.

Farmers are well aware of how to adopt modern methods toaugment their output
amid scanty rainfall, andthey therefore never look at governments for succour
even in the worst ofscenarios. Hence, more than 75 per cent farmers who took
crop and otheragriculture loans have already repaid the banks without seeking a
waiver.

The village has earned recognition from national andinternational agricultural
research bodies suchas the ICAR, ICRISAT and the International Rice Research
Institute. It is one of the richestvillages in India. It is a village!

Q12         What happens when a desert got floodedwith nonstop rain that
fertilizes all the soil?

A12          Kevin Wilkinson Lives in Trujillo,Peru (2013–present)Updated May 31

That happened in2017 where I live. A strong El Niño created about a month of
heavy rains in thecoastal desert of Peru. This is not something people are used
to. The excess rain activatedwatersheds that created severe flooding through
the coastal cities, whicharen’t equipped to handle this. Since there are no
trees in thedesert to hold the soil together, this flooding brought with it a
thick layerof mud that covered everything up to a meter deep in some places. As
things dried out, many plantsnormally dormant quickly took advantage of the
rain and grew and bloomed. In the city the mud quickly turned into dust, which
was thick enough to makethe air yellow. I alsoremember swarms of insects a few
weeks after that, as the excess water andplants gave them a place to breed.

Additionally, theexcess flooding damaged critical water lines into Trujillo so
for about amonth, large areas of the city were without water and flooded at the
same time. The flooding alsowashed away bridges to an extent that there was no
land transport in and out ofthe city.

Fact is,people who live in deserts are adapted to live in dry climates.Having
huge amounts of rain where there usually is very little can be just
asdisastrous as a prolonged drought or an earthquake.
