CULTURAL QA 09-2022-01 BEING A COMPILATIONTHERE MAY BE ERRORS
Q1 Why do escalators have those brushes onthe sides near the feet? A1 Scott Parikh, Sun Many people puttheir feet in these brushes to enjoy and clean their shoes. But that is not thepurpose of these little brushes. Escalators discontinue when we get too close to the edges. If you look at the image above again, you'll notice that each step has a yellow borderaround it; that should be a warning tostay away from the sides. There's a small gap between the sides ofthe escalator and the maze of gears and motors below, and when things enterthat gap, that's when the escalator discontinues. Worseyet, when human body parts enter this small slot, the machine is usually strongenough to cause actual damage to the person. The brushes? Theyhelp prevent these accidents. As escalator supply company Schindler points out,"The surest way toprevent leg injuries is to keep shoes, feet, and hands from getting anywherenear the gap." So if you don't pay attention or notice theyellow warnings, brushes can prevent you from doing something dangerous withoutrealizing it. Q2 Who was the first ruler of Kerala afterindependence? Q4 Why is paneer not used in South Indiancuisine? A4 Bhuvana Rameshwar,Born and bred a S.Indian 3y We don'tuse paneer in south Indian cuisines because the taste of paneer doesn't matchsambar, rasam, our veg or NV Chettinadu gravies. It doesn't go well with our avials or ourkootus. Most of our dishes are based on ground coconut paste asthickening. So we get enough fat from that. So we do notuse paneer. We use coconut, Groundnut or onions in our chutneys. Another good reason is we change all our remaining milkinto curd and have them as curd rice, raitha and buttermilk.Tamil nadu consumes lots of curd and butter milk being a state with perpetualhot climate . Curd bacteria protect us from warmth aided Bacterial andviral infections. So we do not have the need forpaneer or cheese making and prefer making more probiotics curds and buttermilk. However nowadays we use it in our veg biryanis, kurmas, paneer dosas, greens and paneer pakodas. Q5 Why isn't Indian tourism developed asper international standards? A5 Balaji Viswanathan, CEO of InventoRobotics. Updated 7y The city of Singapore receives more tourists than the wholeof India. 1. Lack of Hotels: India is extremely short of qualityhotel rooms that are not expensive as, say, The Sheraton, but still have decentinternational amenities. Think of this. A nation with a billion people has asmany hotel rooms as New York. Yet for all thosetravellers, India offers only 110,000 hotel rooms. China has 10 times as many, and the United States 40 times as many. The New York metropolitan region alonehas about as many rooms as all of India. Addressing aShortage of Hotel Rooms, Not People 2. Cleanliness: Here is how we treat our nation'sholiest river in the holiest city. Despite the Mahatma pushing us a lot towardscleanliness, our socioeconomic conditions mean that we are among the dirtiestcountries in the world. Tourism rich Varanasi and Agra are especially shabby. That is off putting to many. Unsafe food and water prevents our visitors fromenjoying India. 3. Basic Amenities: Most of our places do not havebasic amenities like clean toilets and good restaurants. 4.Security: We are not as bad as Middle East or rest of South Asia, but our security condition ispoorer than Western Europe and East Asia. Rapes and terrorist attacks don'thelp our tourism industry. 5. Transport Infrastructure: Our country is massiveand our infrastructure makes sure it is even more unmanageable. Bad roads, insufficient trains and expensive flight tickets are off putting. Chennai toSingapore is often cheaper than Chennai to Mumbai airfares as idiots workedhard to keep companies like AirAsia from entering India until recently. 6.Extreme regulations: India is the worst place to start any kind of business due to extremeregulations put up by our socialist past. I will give you an example. In Maharashtra itself, a company needs toacquire 132 licenses to develop a star category hotel. Top 10 Challengesfor Tourism Growth in India [Each of the 132licenses might involve greasing some local government official]. We need todramatically simplify our rules. If we can fix theabove, we can become one of the most touristed nations in the world. We havethe potential. It is up to us to implement the things. Government can fix a lotof the above - including regulations and infrastructure. Cleanliness is left tothe people. Q6 Why are capacitors used with ceilingfans and motors, but not with other electrical devices such as lamps or radios? A6 Knut R Leer, MSEE in Electrical andElectronics Engineering, Santa Clara University (SCU) (Graduated 1988)Mon Motors need a rotating magnetic field in order to be ableto turn. In practice this means there has to be at leasttwo windings with some phase difference between them. Larger three-phase motorsalready have three sets of windings with voltages and currents 120 degrees outof phase from each other. Smaller motors run from a single phase use two windingswith a phase difference. The capacitorsused externally on these makes this phase shift possible, for a motor to startand/or run. These motors can be said to be two-phase, where the second phase iscreated using the capacitors. Lamps, lighting in general (whether incandescentor LEDs), and most other stationary appliances such as radios, don’t require more than onephase to operate, so there is no need for a capacitor similar to theones seen on motors. Now, there will be several capacitors in the power supplycircuitry in a radio, for various purposes, and plenty of other capacitorselsewhere inside the rest of the radio, but these tend to be smaller andgenerally never in need of replacement. Q7 Why Indian railways wrote x in end of 🚆? A7 Subhasis Dutta Roy,Working in IndianRailways at Indian Railways (2001–present)Updated 1y The total length ofrailway track is divided into mainly two types of the segment. Stations and between twostations of railway track is block section. A train running throughstations and block sections and train comprises of coaches or wagons connectedthrough couplings. In Indian railway a major portion working on AbsoluteBlock system. In this system, only one train canenter in a block section at one time. Unless anduntil the whole train comes out from that block section no other train givenpermission to enter that block section. A train is throughpassing from a station. How can SM of that station be sure that “whole Train”is come out from that block section? Here is the importance of this “X” mark wrote at the endof the train. It is the symbol of the last coach or wagon of that train. The “X” mark seen by SM assure that no part of the train left in the blocksection. There is anothertwo-stage of security which also ensure that no any part of the train left inthe block section. Last Vehicle Board or Trail Lamp:- Guard of the trainalways travel at the last compartment of train. It is the duty of guard fixed last vehicle boardat day time and illuminating trail lamp (Red) at the last coach or wagon ofthat train. You can see the LV board right side bottom of coaches. Alright signal exchange:- Guard of the train allhave to exchange alright signal with SM or station staff while passing througha station. This all right signal also ensure that the whole train comment fromthe block section safely. n Here you can see a freight train guard is going toexchange alright signal with station staff. What happens if anyother train enters into block section and any part left from the previoustrain? It is actually not possible if all the system functioning properly. Itturns to an accident. This is the importance of the “X” mark written onend coach or wagon and it directly related to passenger safety. Q8 Are there any disadvantages of onlineticket booking in Indian Railways? A9 Lucia Garcia, Worked at Hospitals6h The black cherrytomato is the descendant of the wild tomato, native to the coastal regions ofSouth America. Full-grown black cherry tomatoes are small, about 3 to 4cm long and weigh around 15 to 20 grams. Black cherrytomatoes are rare, their acidity level is lower than ordinary tomatoes, andtaste sweet and sour, making them ideal for eating as a fruit. Compared withordinary tomatoes, black cherry tomatoes have much higher anthocyanin content, and other nutrients are similar to ordinary tomatoes. Anthocyanins are water-soluble pigments present in blackcherry tomatoes that give them their black color. Anthocyanins belongto flavonoids, which are natural antioxidants, and their antioxidant propertiesare 50 times higher than vitamin E and 20 times higher than vitamin C. If you can find fresh black cherry tomatoes, it isrecommended to eat more, because anthocyanins haveobvious effects in antioxidant, anti-aging and cardiovascular andcerebrovascular protection. My note- At times it is available in Chennai supermarketsand fruit stalls. But each cost above Rs 40-00 now Q10 There is a saying in the IndianRailways that the locomotive pilot does not get salary for running the trainbut for applying break in train. What does this statement mean? A10 Subhasis Dutta Roy, Working in IndianRailways at Indian Railways (2001–present) Updated 2y As a former LocoPilot , I will just try to explain that statement. To drive a train, one must perform 3 main actions. 1st release the brakes. 2nd throw the Reverser Handle to the desired direction. 3rd take the notch. It will start electric feed to thetraction motors of Loco and train will start to move.It is so simple to drive a train ignoring the other factors like signals atline, Various Gauges, Indicator lamp, switches, etc at loco and all othermatters which a Loco Pilot have to watch very cautiously at the time ofdriving. Butbraking is not so easy. Trains run with a great momentum. This judgement of a Loco Pilot that how much brake heshould apply to stop the train at the desired point when train is running at aparticular speed. This judgement is developed over a period of timeand It is the experience that no one can get except Loco Pilot. I think that’s whythey all say that, “the locomotive pilot does not get salary for running thetrain but for applying the brake in train”.Thanks for reading.
