CULTURAL QA 09-2022-18

BEING  ACOMPILATION THERE MAY  BE ERRORS

Q1            Why do ceiling fans get slow withage?

A1            Gopala Krishnan, Former AssistantGeneral Manager 1996-2004 at
Department of Telecom (1966–2004) Just now

With age theefficiency of motor decreases in simple words. Slightly more
technicalexplanation is induction power reduces. But age depends on use of the
fan. I have all fans in my home in perfectworking condition installed in 2006,
even after 15 years.

I had a fan complimentedto me in 1986.It was working from 1986 to 2004(18
years). In 2004 it was packed on myresettling from Trivandrum to Chennai. Till
six months back viz 2006 to 2021 for 15 years it wasin pack. During recent
painting of my home, it was taken, foundworking and provided in a work area in
upstairs. So agedepend on use and quality of fan.

Q2            What culture shocks can a NorthIndian face in South India?

A2            Rajender Singh Rana, Social Service(2016–present)Updated Sep 11

Six times I visited South india. Bengaluru, Hubli,Tirupati, Chennai,
Rameshwaram, Kanyakumari , Kanchipuram and pondicherry.

In Chennai Ivisited many temples, markets, museums and the biggest library too.
There weremany myths that South will be quite different. Astonishingly I found
thousandsof good points and good behaviour too that it's very difficult to
answer yourquestion. The onlyculture shock was that why we were so ignorant
about South and why we can'tspeak local languages there. I didn't find any
problem incommunication. Everywhere I found good discipline and good behaviour.
I canexplain countless good things but absence of cultural shock. I will not
sayeverything is ok there. Butif many things are not good in North India the
ratio of such things will bevery less in South.

My note- Asouth Indian visiting North also have many plus points to tell about
NorthIndia. This is with respect to my experience in Jabalpur, Gazhiabad  and
New Delhi.

Q3            What is the difference betweenvinegar and lemon juice? Which one
is a natural source of acetic acid?

A3            Lucia Garcia, Worked at Hospitals12h

There are many kinds of vinegar, and its raw materialsinclude rice, wheat,
sorghum, corn, apples, grapes, malt, potatoes or any othersugary food. Vinegar
is mainly made by fermenting these raw materials.

Vinegar containsabout 6% of natural acetic acid, which is the food with the
most natural aceticacid. The EuropeanUnion requires vinegar to contain at least
5% acetic acid.

Lemon juices are rich in citric acid, but lemon juice donot contain acetic acid.

As the saying goes,"eat less salt and more vinegar". Now, vinegaris
increasingly seen as a health food.

Studies have shown that vinegar has the effect oflowering blood sugar, blood
pressure and blood lipids.

The researchersasked 200 adults to consume 15 milliliters of vinegar (about one
tablespoon),30 milliliters of vinegar (about two tablespoons), or an
ineffective "oralsolution" every day.

After 2 weeks, theresearchers found that peoplewho drank 15ml and 30ml of
vinegar had lower blood sugar, blood pressure andblood lipids.

Experts believethat natural acetic acid is the main cause of vinegar's health
promotion.Acetic acid also has the functions of anti-inflammatory and
bactericidal, softening blood vessels and so on.

Q5            My blood sugar was 91 when I went tobed and exactly doubled to
182 when I got up. Do you have any comments?

A5            Alok A ,BS in Biotechnology,University of Mumbai (Graduated
2014)Sep 11

Well, here I feelyou have type II Diabetes Mellitus. There is a bodily
mechanism named gluconeogenesis, thatis causing this early morning spike in
your blood sugar. This is dueto the glycogen stored in your liver being
converted to glucose early morningsince the sugar levels drop. All beings have
this mechanism active but in Diabetes Mellitus type 2cells become insulin
resistant, so unable to uptake glucose from the blood,so when your blood
glucose levels drop below a certain point your body isactively converting
glycogen to glucose but unable to absorb it resulting inhigh morning sugars.
Thedoctors may also prescribe you medication for glucagon supression, to be
takenat night along with metformin.

Here are mysuggestions

1- Go for a high protein, leafy vegetable diet. Haveless rice, potatoes, sodas
even non-sweetened ones, junk food, red meat, fat.

2- Try intermittent fasting by consulting a gooddietician. This may reduce the
amount of glycogen in your body. Do not referonline videos.

3- Finish your dinner by 9.45 PM if you sleep at 12:00AM, do not feel hungry
before bed.

4- Go for runs, jogging and gym.

5- Have diabeticwhey protein.

6- Notify yourdoctor and ask/ inform them if, you can take either otc Vitamin B
complex orVitamin D3 at night. That can hopefully control your blood sugars.

My note- Generally doctors decide  after observingfasting, PP and random  for
1-2 weeksbefore confirming a person having type 2 diabetics. Sleeplessnights,
anxiety, tension etc. can increase blood sugar levels in a person

Q6            What are some natural substitutesfor sunscreen?

A6            Plug N Play Biosciences Pvt Ltd, Organicand natural skin care
regime Sep 7

They say that the sun is the nourisher of life on earth. Many even believe that
the sun is the primary reason behind life on earth.During winters, it feels
great to soak in all the sunlight and make ourselveswarm. But during the
summers, the same sun tends to burn our skin with nomercy!

But given therising levels of pollution these days, the sun is equally
marauding even duringcertain winter days. Hence, given the need to achieve
protection from UV radiation andsunburns, many of us are forced to apply
sunscreens that help protect our skinfrom sun damage.

But therein liesthe hidden problem. Most synthetic sunscreens contain chemicals
like Oxybenzoneand others. Whilstthese chemicals do offer good sunscreen
protection, they also tend to getabsorbed through our skin into our tissues and
blood vessels.Prolonged exposure to such harmful chemicals is thought to be the
main cause ofskin cancers and many other skin issues in the longer term.

So, is there nonatural alternative to these synthetic sunscreens that offer
similar UVprotection? The answeris Peppermint oil.

Soothes sunburn dueto its anti-inflammatory and cooling properties

Peppermint oil is a known skin rejuvenator and itmakes our skin feel very
refreshed.    Itslows down microbial activity on our skin thus helping reduce
pimples.

Sesame oil contains various phenolic compoundsthat protect our skin from the
ill effects of UV rays, environmentalpollutants, and other toxins. Sesame oil
is also rich in multiple fatty acidswhich act as moisturizers and keep our skin
soft, supple, and well hydrated.

When blended, the resultant oil is ideal for skinbrightening, glowing skin, and
the oil for younger-looking skin.

On the other hand,Sesame oil is rich in several phenolic compounds and fatty
acids. When the twoare mixed in a proportion of 1:15, the result is a potent
natural sunscreenthat offers effective protection from UV radiation. Simply
apply it wheneveryou decide to step out in the sun.

However, make sure that both oils are organic and madeusing the cold-press
method because heat application onthem beyond a point tends to destroy or
change their delicate ingredientstructure.

Camia Peppermintessential oil and Camia extra-virgin Sesame oil are certified
USDA organic,sustainably sourced, silicone-free, hexane-free, and
animal-testing free.Further, they are dermatologically tested and naturally
extracted to give yourskin the best protection against harmful UV radiation.

So, the next timeyou want to step out into the sun, don’t apply chemical-laden
sunscreens toyour skin. Instead, gonatural-Choose a combination of Camia
peppermint essential oil and Camiaextra-virgin cold-pressed Sesame oil!

Q7            Why is Bangalore cooler than otherplaces in Karnataka?

A7            Venkatesh Kulkarni, Productmanagement guy working in reputed MNC.
Sep 11

Firstly, afterlooking at this question I am sure you haven't visited other
places inKarnataka apart from Bangalore. Most outsiders and proper bangaloreans
do this mistake, they assumeBangalore is best in everything in Karnataka. Some
outsiders don'teven even know that Karnataka is a state and the just know about
Bangalore.

Most places inKarnataka share similar weather to Bangalore — Shimoga, Mysore,
Dharwad,Hubli,Belgavi all share similar weather as Bangalore and if they vary
it's just by adegree or 2.

Other placeslike Coorg, Sakleshpur, Chikmagalur, Bandipur have even cooler
weather 🌡️☁️.

Explore Karnataka,on a weekend to places that are in Karnataka they are
interesting to visit to.You will know a bit more about the state, Bangaloreis
just a busy, populated ,concrete jungle.

Q8            If a loco pilot sees a herd ofanimals on railway tracks, is he
entitled to stop the train? How many minimum animalsare required in order to
stop a train?

A8            Siva Kumar Bachoti, Former SoftwareQuality Assurance Manager Sep
12

A train driver is concerned with the safety of the trainand his cargo or
passengers, period. He is not expected to try & save thelives of trespassing
animals (including humans)if that attempt is likely to endanger the train. The
last thing the driverwants is a derailment.

Q9            How can I get 60-100g of proteinfrom a vegetarian diet?

A9            Jyothi Siripurapu, I have a YouTubechannel on health and
nutrition. Fri

Why do you need 60-100g of protein? 1 Kgof body weight need 0.8g of protein per
day. If you weigh 60 kg, then you need48g of protein. Excess protein gets
converted into fat.You need to burn this fat again. Why eat excess of protein?
Why burn afterthat? Let's make this simple.

100g of Pigeon peasDal/ Toor Dal/ Lentil Dal has 21g of protein

100 g of Wholewheat has 12g of protein

Simple stapleIndian meal with 2 whole wheat roti’s (12g of protein assuming
that you canmake 2 rotis with 100g of wheat flour) + 2 cups of Dal (42g of
protein) = 54gof protein meets more than your daily requirement of protein. Dal
and roti areeasily available and affordable food too.

Q10         How does AC Tier 1 of Indian railwayslooks from inside? Have you
traveled in it ? What kind of people travel throughAC Tier 1 since it costs
nearly in the range of air ticket?

A10          Akash Dutta, SYSTEM ENGINEER at TCSDigital (2019–present)Fri

We had booked a ticket in AC Tier 2 of Sealdah Rajdhani(12314) from New Delhi
to Sealdah but we got a auto upgradation to AC 1 Tier asour ticket was in
waitling list for AC Tier 2 and seats in AC Tier 1 werevacant (Dont forget to
tick on the auto upgradationoption while booking tickets)

We got the sms 4 hours before the departure and we wereoverwhelmed with it.

Our boarding was at16:50 from New Delhi Railway Station (NDLS).

First of all, wewere given soup on foldable tables-

Then at around 8,we were served with dinner-

After that we sawthat comfort of passengers are taken with utmost care as
elevating steps arepresent to climb the upper seats.

In morning , wewere served this breakfast-Since our train was 3 hours late, we
got khichdi asadditional meal-(Even Khichdi tastes amazing in this cultinery
set)

I generally found businessmen(not getting any reservation in other classes as
same day flight tickets stillcosts much as compared to AC Tier 1 tickets) ,
people with pets (booking thewhole compartment), aged people with medical
issues travelling in the AC tier 1class.

My note-Is not it a foolish arrangement, a man in w/l is given upgrading and
onewho booked earlier and in confirmed birth as 1,2 are not upgraded. Nowadays
all passengers ticks for upgradation. Least envy on this passenger, but the
foolish arrangementof railway.

I have experiencedthe same in Alleppy- Chennai express, those  lately booked
got upgraded to 2ndAC that too lower berth. I had booked for myself and wife
(78and73) very early were allotted upper berths??!!
