BEING  A COMPILATIONTHERE MAY  BE ERRORS

Q1         Which type of doors are the best for atoilet?

A1         Gopala Krishnan, Former AssistantGeneral Manager 1996-2004 at
Department of Telecom (1966–2004)Just now

Now most toiletsare in bath attached room in homes. You have different choices
of doors depending on the affordabilityof owner.

A teak wood door pushing and automatic closing isbest. To avoid any problem to
door by touching and spraying of water the bottomportion can have a good PVC
cover inside, which can be replaced. An automaticclosing is very much helpful
while elders taking bath. Others can push andenter and help them in case of
emergency. For youngsters toilet door lock mustbe provided for use

If teak wood is not affordable, it can be any other wood, water treated, and
with good PVC cover inside. Ifautomatic door closure is not affordable, door
can be just pressing and holdingespecially for elders. By pulling a handle door
can be opened. For youngsterstoilet door lock must be provided for use

If wooden door is not advised or affordable PVC door can beprovided with dark
shade. Locks can be easily openingif at all bolt is put, for elders. For
youngster bathrooms good locking withbolt can be provided. Never provide any
handle lock for bathrooms which aredifficult to open irrespective of age.

I have seen a person providing tin sheet door for bathroom which marred the
appearance. For middle classhomes in my opinion PVC door is best with simple
just pushing lock and easily openingby a hard push. Opinions vary

Q2         If humans are all biologically the samerace, are what we call
'races' more like breeds found in animals?

A2         Claire Jordan, Degree in biology andfolklore; programmer, shop
owner, secretary on newspaper Oct 7

Pretty much, yes, except not as clear-cut.More like the general types we see in
horses - cob, heavy hunter, draught, trotter etc. Human races are what in wild
non-human animals are called ecotypesor localities - populations where
particular clusters of alleles (genevariants) are more or less common than
usual for the species.

For example,European hedgehogs on the continent usually have a cream face with
a brownmuzzle, but in Britain they usually have a brown face with a cream
trianglebetween the eyes. Hedgehogs tend to be bigger the farther north you go.

Q3         What are the healthy tips to keep yourheart safe?

A3         Salami Duha, Studied Bachelor ofMedicine and Bachelor of Surgery
Degrees at Usmanu Danfodiyo University Sokoto(Graduated 2019)Sat

One of the mostessential organ in the body is the heart. Without it's proper
functioning we'resimply no more or at the very least waiting for an impending
doom. Keeping theheart safe is paramount for staying healthy and living a long
and fruitfullife. Some of the ways you can keep it safe are as follows:

1Reduction in alcohol intake: Excessiveconsumption of alcohol is a major risk
factor for developing heart disease. Ifyou must take alcohol, consume only a
moderate amount.

2. Stay active: the rise in sedentary lifestyle has ledto increase in
cardiovascular disease. It may seem like an enjoyment having todo nothing all
day or move your limbs. Believe me, you're slowly killingyourself. Having
regular exercise can save you from a lot of heart disease. Forinstance,
exercise alone has been shown to limit the progression ofhypertension. It can
also help reduce high blood pressure by about 11mmhg.

3. Reduce salt intake: High salt intake has beenimplicated as a cause of many
heart diseases. Stay healthy by saying no toadded salt.

4. Stop smoking: Yes, stop smoking. All forms ofsmoking both active and passive
can give you a heart disease. You don't justneed to stop smoking, you also have
to stay away from people smoking so as notto inhale the smoke.

5. Reduce fat intake: Limit consumption of fat as itcan lead to heart and
vascular diseases like atherosclerosis. In place of fateat lots vegetables and
fruits of all colours.

6. Have regular check up with your doctor: Go forroutine medical check up to
ensure nothing is wrong with you. Sometimes peopledevelop heart diseases that
do not show any signs or symptoms early and onlymanifest when it is too late.
Going for regular checkups can help discoverheart diseases early and thus early
intervention to save your heart.

Q4         Why do the trains passing throughKerala has numerous halts when
compared to other states?

A4         Arut Selvan, Engineer (2004–present)Oct7

First, kerala has bad(very bad) road connectivity.KSRTC is one of the loss
making org in Kerala and the govt can't do anything.Ideally there is no bus
timing followed. Eg: ISRO has a centre in Trivandrum outskirts. 15km fromcity.
There is no single bus to and fro city and the centre at office time.Long
distance buses are horrible. It takes 5hrs to travel from Trivandrum
toErnakulam via road. So people obviously prefer train.

Getting land for road and rail road is unimaginable inKerala. So railways don't
want to get into thesetrouble, so simply ignore.

Keralaties tend totell the same lie that, “kerala is hilly region so, roads are
impossible”please visit konkan route.

This is unverifiednews, kerala bound ias officers in railways give stops to
their home town

Note: kerala hasrailway travellers association, which is obviously “powerflu"

My note- Even after having car or scooter, personstravelling in time by train
are more for office work. I have seen lady staffcutting vegetables etc, sitting
in  evening train for the next day, purchased fromshops near office.
Seasonticket charges is very less comparing to bus fare.

Q5         Why are Indian marriages so emotional?

A5         Tiny Nair, Cardiologist at PRSHospital, Trivandrum Updated 2y

Car

It looked like ahouse in mourning; everyone talked in mono-syllables and hushed
voice.

We were buying anew ‘Maruti Omni’ Van. The sadness was because we were selling
off our old‘Ambassador’ car; it was as if we were losing a family member.

‘This car has never let us down on a trip’;commented my father and looked away
as the new buyer drove away in the grey, noisy ‘Ambassador’.

We, in India develop emotional attachment to even the mostinanimate, mundane
‘silent’ objects like a car, a house, and even bank balance;and find it painful
to part with it.

So it is notsurprising that we attach huge emotional garnish to a function
which wouldresult in deciding the most ‘vocal’ element in a mans life, his wife.

Marriage

Marriage in thewestern society, quite rightly so, is a joint, voluntary
decision by twopeople, to remain as partners, who benefit and enjoy by each
others company. The moment the ‘enjoyment’ cease, either of them is free to take
a decision toend the contract; legal issues apart.

In contrast, marriage in India is a decision, mostlyimposed by the parents, who
believe that they have theresponsibility to find a suitable match for their
eligible children, to parkthem safely in life. There are exceptions, but those
are few.

That’s the reasonwhy, Indian marriages are held with pomp and style, in
presence of hundreds ofguests, a licensed priest authorized by almighty himself
to oversee theproceedings. Every little move is video-graphed and watermarked;
making surethat you cannot go back on your word on flimsy ground like snoring
orbody-odour.

It always surprisesme as to how the ‘western’ belief of convenience and comfort
changes to the‘Indian’ philosophy of adjustment and sacrifice; as you fly
across just a dozentime-zones between Detroit and Delhi.

Final Word

You would alwayswalk out of a ‘mundane’ movie, or a ‘drab’ drama; but you would
patiently waitfor hours, for your daughter’s school-day function. That
‘two-line’ dialogue byyour angel, would make the wait worthwhile.

Same with‘emotional’ Indian marriage; stale to others, but you would not
walk-out.

Westerners wouldcall it ‘emotional blackmail’; we call it once-in-a-lifetime
‘emotionalexperience’.

Q6         Are any plants known to have evolvedinto moving creatures?

A6         Claire Jordan,Degree in biology andfolklore; programmer, shop owner,
secretary on newspaper Sat

Yes. At least, into moving organisms: “creature” is reallyreserved for animals.

To begin with, allplants move in place: their stems and roots and leaves grow,
their stems twistto follow the sun, their roots follow water, sometimes they
climb, twistingtendrils and stems around any fixed structures they touch. And
most plantsspread their seeds by passively hitching a ride on the wind, or in
or on ananimal.

But in addition to that, there’s a South American plantcalled the Walking Palm
which can actually move itself across the landscape, albeit only at about 65
yards a year.

They grow with thetrunk balanced upright on top of a kind of tepee-frame of
roots of which onlythe ends are in the ground. The roots grow longer and
farther-reaching in thedirection of travel, bite into the ground and hitch the
whole plant forwards.

My note- I have seen money plant  creeping near by palmetc, roots on them and
leaving base in ground.

Q7         Why is Chennai worse when compared toHyderabad or Bangalore?

A7         Manish Raj Srivastav, Lives inBengaluru, Karnataka, India
(2016–present) Sep 18

Most people livingin Chennai are fromTamil Nadu and for them, Chennai is one of
the best cities to be in because forthem it is an ideal place. It is a place
where you find a perfect blend of Indian culture and modern India. On one side
you have big IT companies and on the other side, you have anancient site like
Mahabalipuram. So people in and around Tamil Nadu find itsuitable for the job
and settling down, they can stay close to their roots andget jobs as well.

The question ismajorly comparing three big cities of the South which are also
big IT hubs. So,I feel the ideology behind this question is to figure out which
city is bestsuitable for someone who is planning to get a job or settle down in
the south.I am from the northern part of India but I did my engineering in
Chennai andfor the past 6 years I am staying in Bengaluru. I have been to
Hyderabad aswell and many of my friends stay there as well.

Let’s not debate which cities have better opportunitiesbecause I feel all three
of them have ample opportunities, be it IT jobs orgood colleges and
universities. Maybe Bengaluruhas more and better opportunities since it's
India’s start-up hub. But when youare planning to settle down or shift to any
one of these cities there are manyother factors which you need to consider.
Let’s discuss and list them down. Butbefore that here are two things which I
find difficult when I was staying inChennai:

The weather inChennai is not as hot as people claim but still for someone who
has been in theNorth since birth like me, it was difficult to adjust because
the weatherthroughout the year remains similar. The evening was pleasant butthe
noon used to be very humid. During monsoon, it used to rain heavily which
Ienjoyed but the place where I used to stay at OMR used to get flooded every
2ndyear.

I was weak inEnglish but by the time I completed graduation, my English got
improved. I alsolearnt a bit of Tamil but initially, it was difficult for me to
communicate.Don’t expect that everyone knows Hindi. You have to respect their
language. Irealised that early so I learned a few basic Tamil words and that
helped me alot otherwise communication can be a problem for a non-Tamil speaker.

Now, let’s discussother factors:

Food: Hyderabad is best in food, the food there isextremely tasty and
inexpensive. I mean how can you resist Hyderabadi DumBiryani? Food is
inexpensive and good in Chennai too but there you will mostlyfind South-Indian
delicacies. In Bengaluru also you will find good food but abit more expensive
than in the other two cities.

Traffic and public transport: Chennai has the besttraffic management among
these 3 cities and has good coverage of local trainsand metro rail. Hyderabad
comes close to Chennai but Traffic in Bengaluru isdead slow. Especially during
rain which happens quite often and nowadays metro railwork is in full swing. I
stay in Bellandur and a few weeks back situation wasworse than ever.

Cost of living: Bengaluru is the most expensive thencomes Hyderabad and the
most affordable among them is Chennai. Be it rent, ration, education,
healthcare, or public transport everything is on a littlehigher side in
Bengaluru.

Safety and Nightlife: All three of them are amongthe safest cities in India,
coming to nightlife I haven’t spent much time inHyderabad and between Chennai
and Bengaluru I would prefer Bengaluru fornightlife.

Weather: Hands down Bengaluru has the bestweather among all the meter cities in
India. Bengaluru’s weather is the reasonwhy I don’t wanna leave this city.

Language: As I mentioned earlier you mightstruggle in Chennai if you are not
good with English and Tamil but in Hyderabadand Bengaluru you can easily manage
with Hindi. I am not against any languageor disrespect any language I am just
talking about ease of communication.

Other factors: Bengaluru is expensive but it's astartup hub and if you are
looking for a switch you can get comparativelybetter salaries. Bengaluru also
has many good weekend gateways. In terms ofpollution, I feel all 3 of them are
similar. Infrastructure and healthcare wisealso all three are good but as I
said Bengaluru is expensive. Even alcohol andcinema are costly in Bengaluru.

I think I havecovered all the major factors. So, yes Chennai can be difficult
to settle inbecause of its weather and language but it's not the worse. I hope
this answer helpsto make a better decision.

My note- My carrier in Telecom department  started in 1964 endin Chennai. Till
1991 I have worked in different parts of Tamilnadu. Though Iwent to Kerala in
1991 middle to breath native air,  after retirement in 2004 again I came
toChennai on personal reasons. Whatever it is, summer is too hot andwater
scarcity is a real problem. I dropped the idea of constructing arented portion
in upstairs because of the water scarcity, in spite I am havingbore-well and
Tambaram corporation water connection.(About sixmonths back or so, Tambaram
became corporation)

Q8         What are some train incidents that youwould like to share?

A8         Nitin Mahajan, Deputy Manager at MarutiSuzuki India Limited11mo

Being Wise and Generous to the Train hawker

So this happenedlast week in NDLS Kalka Shatabdi.

On my side seat aperson (in mid 40s) asked hawker for a water bottle (costing
rs. 20). Buthawker had no change for 500 rs note.

So hawker noted his seat number and said will take moneylater and gave him the
bottle.

Now 3 hrs passedand hawker didn't came.

And the person gotdown before Chandigarh.

Now hawker comes when train is about to reach Chandigarhstation. But finding
person not there , he is shocked.Keep in mind, the Indian Hawkers earn very
less and if any loss like this isthere, they have to pay for it.

But it didn'thappen like that.

The person had not opened the bottle and had left it inbottle holder for the
hawker.I really liked itand loved the presence of mind and wisdom of the
traveller

Q9         Why are South Indian temples bigger andgrander than North Indian
temples?

A9         Dev Kumar, student Sun

No South India doesn’t have more temples because SouthIndians were Temple
builders while North wasn’t.

It’s only becausealmost all temples of North India were destroyed by Jih@di
barbarian invadersand number of temples standing is indirectly proportional to
barbarism ofjih@di invasion.

North India acted as shield taking all the blows for1000s of years while South
was relatively protected still some vermins likeMalik Kafur, nizams, Tipu,
Bahmani Sultans slippedthrough and destroyed Vijayanagara temples, Attacked
Madurai Meenakshi temple,Tipu destroyed 8000 temples.

If one can timetravel and go to 711 AD before first barbarian Bin Qasim broke
through Indiandefences due to our stupid secularism and betrayal of fes, the
density oftemples from Sindh to Kanyakumari would have been the same and even
thegrandeur.

The Sun Temple ofMultan was supposed to be the most glorious temple of
India.Kashmiri templeswere architectural wonders.

So rather thanbeing haughty that south Kings made better temples while Northern
Indians weresavages, it’s better to thank their sacrifices as they fought with
everythingand managed to save dharma and memories of some glorious
temples.Somnath wasdestroyed but memory was preserved, Mathura was ransacked,
Varanasi wasransacked, Nalanda was ransacked, Konark was attacked, Jagannath
Puri wasattacked, Ayodhya temple was destroyed, all Maharashtra temples were
attackedand destroyed by Aurangzeb, Afzal Khan and gang, Prayagraj temples
wereransacked and if you count it will be in thousands.

If one has to seesheer density of glorious temples, one has to go to Bagan in
Burma and otherparts where Indic civilisation made thousands of temples
following Indianarchitecture schools which included architects from North
India, south India, east India. Indians stopping jih@dis was reason South East
Asia had theirtemples intact and only nature has made changes to them and made
them appearmore ethereal.

We need to be as proud of Rajaraja Chola, KrishnadevaRaya as of Rana Kumbha,
Bappa Rawal, Lalitaditya muktapida, Suheldev, AhilyabaiHolkar and hundreds of
other warriors who ensured that our Dharma survivesintact even if our temples
were destroyed.Temples can be remade as they arerightfully being done if soul
of our Bharat is kept Intact.

Q10              Can air purifiers filter outCOVID-19?

A10       Prianka Agarwal,  Sep 30

Air purifiers can help reduce airborne contaminants, suchas viruses, in a house
or other enclosed space when utilized appropriately.A portable air cleaner,
however, is insufficient to shield individualsfrom COVID-19 on its own. Both
medical professionals and the EPA agree that the most crucialfeature to look
for in an air purifier is a high-efficiency particulate air(HEPA) filter. 0.3
micron-sized particles can be captured by these filters inat least 99.97% of
cases.

The majority ofairborne infections are micrometer-sized or less. As a result, a
HEPA filtermay almost eliminate all of these allergens. For instance, 99.99%
ofbacteria3, 99% of coronavirus (229E)1, and 99% of influenza A (H1N1)2
virusactivity are efficiently eliminated by many air purifiers. I use acer
airpurifier which uses hepa filter. I bought directly from their store
becausethey are giving 2 years warranty .
