kālai eḻuntulakam kaṟpaṉavum kaṟṟuṇarnta
mēlait talaimaṟaiyōr vēṭpaṉavum - vēlaikkaṇ
ōrāḻi yāṉaṭiyē ōtuvatum ōrppaṉavum
pērāḻi koṇṭāṉ peyar (Poykai Āḻvār’s Tiruvantāti I, 66)
kālai eḻuntulakam kaṟpaṉavum
get up from bed early in the morning and learn (by reading the scriptures),
kaṟṟuṇarnta mēlait talaimaṟaiyōr vēṭpaṉavum vēlaikkaṇ
digest the prodigious writings of the earlier generation (of masters),
ōrāḻiyāṉ aṭiyē ōtuvatum ōrppaṉavum
what we read and meditate to the glories of the Lord’s feet,
pērāḻi koṇṭāṉ peyar He (Mahāviṣṇu)
takes the name of the Great Disc.
“The customary duty is to get up from bed early in the morning, read and
learn the
scriptures that are the heritage of the prodigious writings of pioneers of
the past
generation. We read and meditate on what (all the scriptures) pertain to
the glories of
the Lord’s feet. He is the Great Lord Disc.”   KR IRS 26123
