Q1           What are the advantages of naturalclay roof tiles?

A1           Gopala Krishnan,Former AssistantGeneral Manager 1996-2004 at
Department of Telecom (1966–2004)Just now

I am writing thisanswer from Chennai, India. I am native of Kerala

Before R C C becamecommon method of roofing, most homes had either tiled
roofing or coconut leafbraided/palm leaf, or hay roofing . Hay roof was used
mostly for huts, coconutleaf braided where used where they were abundant. Palm
leaves where used where theywere abundant.

Coconut leafbraided or palm leaves had to be replaced at least once in two
years. Tiles hadthe advantage of no replacement unless they were broken or
become heavy and olddue to absorption of water. My ancestral home had tiled
roofing.

All tiles are madefrom natural clay. The size of tiles was standard to fit to
lengthy bars onwhich they were placed, interleaving with each other. Now too
many homes haveroof tiling. Braided coconut leaves roofing is also existing for
small homes inKerala. The same with villages in Tamilnadu also. Even in cities
to keepheritage some row houses called Agraharam have tiled roofing. The owners
mayhave R C C bungalows also elsewhere.

Q3           How do I properly maintain and carefor a wooden front door?

A3           Gopala Krishnan, Former AssistantGeneral Manager 1996-2004 at
Department of Telecom (1966–2004) Just now

I am writing thisanswer from Chennai, India where the climate is very hot. The
first thing required is asit out or Veranda in front of the main door. One
large size shadeis provided in some homes, but it is not fully sufficient.
These arrangements willprotect the front door from falling sunlight directly
and dry it more.

At least once a week, clean the door fully and remove dust.Ensure white ants
are not attacking the door.

Once a year either polish or paint the door is mostpreferred, If door keeps
it’s appearancepolishing/painting can be once in two years.

Providing a teak wood front door is most preferable.

EATING KACHHA MANGOES

Yes, it isperfectly fine to eat a raw (kachha) mango without salt. Raw mangoes
have atart and tangy taste, and many people enjoy eating them as a snack or
usingthem in various culinary preparations. While adding salt can enhance the
flavor of raw mangoes forsome people, it is not necessary to enjoy them. You
can eat a rawmango as it is, or you can also try dipping it in salt or chili
powder for anextra kick if you prefer. Ultimately, it's a matter of personal
preference.
