CULTURAL QA 06-2023-13A

Q1           Whatare some mind blowing facts about world?

A1           Fact sky, Answered by Krishna Kamat,6h

China is the biggest tea producer in the world. It is believed that it was China
that introduced the world to tea.

India is the world's largest milk producer, with 22 percent of global production.

Brazil is the world's largest coffee producer, supplying around a third of the
world's coffee.

Russia is the largest diamond producingcountry in the world.

In 2023 USA is the largest producer ofpetroleum followed by Saudi Arabia,
Russia and Canada.

Japan is the world's most earthquake-pronecountry.

There are more than 24 time zones aroundthe world.

Q2           Whatwould happen if a plane flew too high?

A2           Vishnu Ravi, Bachelor of Engineeringin Aerospace and Aeronautical
Engineering, Indian Institute of Technology,Madras (IITM) (Graduated 2015)Jun 7

If aplane flew too high, it can run into all sorts of dangers that threaten
thepassengers and the plane itself.

High-Flying Hazards: When a big ol' plane climbs tocrazy altitudes, the air
starts getting thinner and less dense. That means the air passing over the
wingsdoesn't give as much lift as it should. And guess what? That canlead to a
super scary situation called a stall.

The planeloses control and starts hurtling downwards, totally out of
control. The exact altitude where this nightmare can happen can change depending
onthings like the weather and how heavy the plane is. Usually, it canoccur
somewhere between 40,000 and 45,000 feet, give or take.

The Dreaded Danger Zone: Now, picture this: there'sa critical point where an
airplane's low-speed stall and high-speed buffetmeet. When that happens, the
poor plane just can't keep itsaltitude anymore and has no choice but to
descend. It's like being stuckbetween a rock and a hard place, I tell ya! For
most big passenger jets, thishappens around 40,000 to 45,000 feet up in the
air. But hey, keep in mind thatthe exact altitude can change depending on how
heavy the plane is and what kindof weather it's facing.

Hold Your Breath, Hold It Tight: Flying up really highcan put a massive strain
on the airplane's structure. The pressure differencebetween the inside and
outside of the plane can get so extreme that itsurpasses what the poor thing
was designed to handle. And when that happens, you've got yourself a major
catastrophe waiting to unfold. The plane's structure can giveway, and that's a
terrifying situation that endangers everyone on board. Talkabout a
nerve-wracking ride!

Air Pressure Panic and Oxygen Woes: Okay, listenup! Now, planes don't melt or
anything like that up in the sky, but there'sstill something to worry about
when it comes to cabin pressure and oxygen. Rules and regulations in
theaviation world demand that planes stay below certain altitudes to make sure
thecabin stays pressurized and that there's enough oxygen for all the folks
inside.

We don't wantanyone turning blue or gasping for air, do we? So, altitudecontrol
is a must for the well-being of everyone on board.

Give 'Em Air, Give'Em Life: When planes go above their designated maximum
altitude, it's bad newsfor the engine, my friend. You see, engines need a good
supply of oxygen to work properly. But when they go sky-high, that supply gets
all choked up, and the enginesstart struggling to do their job. They become
less efficient, andthat means the plane can't maintain its altitude as it
should. It's like theengine's gasping for air, and that's definitely not a good
situation to be in.

So there you haveit, my friend! When airplanes climb to excessive heights,
they'redancing with danger. From stalls and descents to structural failures and
oxygenworries, it's a wild ride up there. It's crucial for pilots andengineers
to keep these risks in mind and make sure we all have a safe andsmooth journey
through the sky!

Q3           Whydo ceiling fans in the US have 4 or 5 blades, and fans in India
have 3 blades?

A3           Ramanan Rv, Travelled to and lived inUSA Upvoted by Rish Ahuj.,
lives in The United States of America (2010-present)Updated 6y

In US and Canada, the primary requirement for the ceilingfan is to supplement
the air conditioner in summer. In winter, many of these fanswith a reverse
switch, can be flipped to turn the direction of the rotation sothat it will
draw cold air from below so warm air from the heater(usually located along the
walls close to the floor or with vents on the floor)can fill the room
underneath the fans. So, the ceiling fan keeps a gentle aircirculation in the
room.

Also, keep in mind, the height of ceilings and hence volume of rooms are quite
low inUS/Canada homes ~ 8 ft high compared to 10–12 ft in South Asia.

The fans with 4 / 5 blades are slower. Also, these fans generally have a maximum
of 3 speed settings. Also, the factthat they almost always double up as a
lighting fixture with 1–4 bulbs underthe central hub could be one of the
reasons why they need to be slow andstabilized so as not to blow the lights.

The Indian fans have about 5-6 speed settings, are notdesigned to run in
reverse direction and seldom double up as light fixtures. In India, the ceiling
fan is used primarily as a stand alone appliance thatdoes not change the actual
temperature of the room but produces a perceived cooling effect by
forcedconvection of air in the room.

To that effect, it just has to blow wind and operates athigher speeds than the
ones in North America. So, the 3 blade fans are lighter, operate at a higher
speed and aregenerally efficient.

In US andCanada, the primary requirement for the ceiling fan is to supplement
the airconditioner in summer. In winter, many of these fans witha reverse
switch, can be flipped to turn the direction of the rotation so thatit will
draw cold air from below so warm air from the heater (usually locatedalong the
walls close to the floor or with vents on the floor) can fill theroom
underneath the fans. So, the ceiling fan keeps a gentle air circulation inthe
room.

low in US/Canada homes ~ 8 ft high compared to 10–12ft

Q4           Whathappens when you eat junk food?

A4           InfoSage, Professional Maven5h

Eating junk foodcan have various negative effects on our health. Junk food
refersto food and drinks that are low in nutrients, such as vitamins, minerals,
andfiber, but high in calories, saturated fat, added sugar, and/or added
salt. Here are some of the consequences of regularly consuming junk food:

1. Increased risk of obesity:

Junk food is oftenhigh in calories, which can contribute to weight gain and
obesity. Obesity, inturn, increases the risk of chronic diseases like
cardiovascular disease, type2 diabetes, non-alcoholic fatty liver disease, and
certain types of cancer.

2. Nutrient deficiencies:

Junk foods lackessential nutrients that our bodies need for optimal health. By
consuming thesefoods, we may miss out on important vitamins, minerals, and
fiber that arenecessary for proper growth, development, and overall well-being.

3. Impact on blood sugar levels:

Junk foods, particularly those high in refined sugar and carbohydrates, can
cause rapidspikes in blood sugar levels.Overtime, this can lead to insulin
resistance, type 2 diabetes, and weight gain.

4. Increased risk of heart disease:

Many junk foodscontain unhealthy fats, such as trans fats, which can raise LDL
(bad)cholesterol levels and increase the risk of heart disease and
stroke.Additionally, high sodium content in junk food can contribute to high
bloodpressure, another risk factor for heart disease.

5. Negative effects on the respiratory system:

Excess calorieintake from junk food can contribute to weight gain and obesity,
which canincrease the risk of respiratory problems like asthma and shortness of
breath.

6. Impact on cognitive function:

Some researchsuggests that higher consumption of junk food may have a negative
impact oncognitive function, including short-term memory.

7. Reproductive issues:

Junk food maycontain chemicals, such as phthalates, which can interfere with
hormonal balance and potentiallylead to reproductive issues and developmental
problems.

8. Skin problems:

Certain junk foods, such as those high in dairy, chocolate, fat, and foods with
a high glycemicindex, have been associated with acne. On the other hand,
consuming fruits, vegetables, and fatty acids (found in fish and olive oil) can
help promotehealthier skin.

Tomaintain a healthy lifestyle, it is important to limit theconsumption of junk
food. Instead, focus on a balanced dietthat includes a variety of whole foods,
such as fruits, vegetables, wholegrains, lean proteins, and healthy fats. These
foods provide essentialnutrients and promote overall health and well-being.
