Sir,
Each person will have his own views. Mr G. Viswanath, our ex member of Thatha
patti group has expressed his view. I do not agree with it. It is foolishness
if a son ask his father- Did I asked you give birth to me. India has some
heritage. Similarly other countries in the world.

There  are duties to son and daughter to look after aged parents as per Indian
heritage. Mahabharatha story starts with such an incident.

Some parents may not require money, but physical care. Most living in rented
homes, having no source of income, and spent their life time earnings to bring
up children   has to look after parents.  It is another foolishness if children
ask who asked you to spent your life time earnings on their education. Recently
our Indian laws are also amended in this regard

You gave the best education to your children. Post education, they left India
after putting you in an old age home. Do you regret giving them the best
education?
An excellent reply by Gopalakrishna Vishwanath.

Yes, we gave the best education to our children and the best upbringing that
we were capable of. Post education they left India and have settled abroad and
become citizens of those countries. They did not “put us in an old age
home”.We, of our own free will, moved into a retirement home where we own our
apartment and pay for excellent supporting services. I have written extensively
on this subject and anyone interested can visit my Space “Life in retirement”
and read the posts and get an idea of what life in a good retirement home is
like.We consulted our children and convinced them that it was the best thing to
do so that they don’t have to worry about us. We visit them often and they
visit us whenever they can. We stay in touch using phones and internet videos.
Not even once have we felt deprived of the company of our children. We are
financially secure, and currently do not depend on our children for money. But
we know that in the future, if, God forbid, we run out of money, our children
can be counted upon to support us financially. We will not expect them to give
up their flourishing careers abroad and give up everything and come back just
to take care of us. Their priorities should be their own children. If the
situation calls for us to have our children with us, we will move to their
places, not expect them to uproot themselves and come to live with us.Coming to
the actual question, we do not regret anything. We are proud to have done our
duty to our children. We are happy about their success. We are happy that they
are doing better than we did for ourselves. We did not have our children and
think of them as an investment and expect returns on this investment during our
old age.We had our children for experiencing the joy of parenthood, for the
opportunity to shower our love and attention on them, and for watching them
grow, into talented, educated, responsible people.*Our children did not ask to
be born. We brought them into this world without their permission. We have not
done them any favour by raising them. That was our duty. They owe us nothing.
Let them do for the next generation, what we did for them. That is enough for
us.*🙏🙏
