CULTURAL QA09-2023-03

Q1         Isit normal to wake up twice every day to use the toilet? I woke up
three timeswith a full bladder. I’ve always been like this and I barely drank
any waterthat day.

A1          Wilma Robertson, Former Retired Nurse at National HealthService
(NHS) (1967–2012)Jun 12

Not drinking water isn’t the answer, if youdon’t drink water the urine in the
bladder will be very concentrated and thisis why the bladder becomes irritated
and wants to empty. Try increasing your fluid intake.

Q2         Whatis Amul milk made of? Why is it unnaturally thick and white?

A2         Prashant Srivastava, Content Planner (2019–present) Updated3y

I have worked with AMUL as a Sales Professional during 2003–2004. I amnot
getting into technical details here but explaining a general understandingof
the Amul quality legacy.

Before going on board in thefield for Sales, Amul conducts 1-month
comprehensive induction training at itsheadquarters Anand, Gujarat, India, that
I think no any other organizationdoes.

During Training our journeystarted with Classrooms detailing about products.
Then started our day byvisiting a nearby village, from where ultimately the
product journey starts. Westayed in teams at different villages at Night.

Early in the morning around 4 a.m. we woke up andvisited the milk collection
centre situated nearby. A van from Amul plant camethere and guys were sitting
at the centre to collect milk from villagers with amachine (which checks the
density of milk).

Villagers are being paid on the basis of density of theirmilk produced and not
just the quantity, amazing isn’t it? ( You know, this way villagers don’t
adulterate the milk for getting a better price - Quality of Milk wellassured).

After milk collection, we sat in Milk Collection Vans andwent straight to the
plant, saw the milk being unloaded to the plant tanks andprocessing started
from there.

No scope of adulteration at anystep, as we saw each step of production from
scratch to finish. (This is doneat Amul to ensure the confidence of their brand
among sales professionals, which they ultimately translate in the market and
beat the brands like Nestle,Cadbury, Brittania, etc.)

In India, 99% public (sorry, I amnot sure just a vague guess) don’t know that
they are eating Frozen Dessertinstead of Ice-Cream. Only Amul makes Ice Creams
(Yes it’s true).

Ice cream is a product which ismade from MILK FAT and manufacturers can write
on the pack ICE CREAM word onlywhen it is made up of milk fat - Amul Does it.

Other products are called FROZENDESSERTS ( Because they are made up of
Vegetable Fat)

Check the package label beforeeating ice cream next time when you buy it.

So the question - What is Amul milkmade of? Why is it unnaturally thick and
white? - Because it’s REAL MILK.

Hope I answered the question.

Edits, Suggestions, Upvotes,Follows - Most Welcome

Edit 1: I agree with some membersthat apart from Amul few more regional brands
make milk fat based Ice-Creams.

Edit 2: I may have forgotten somedetails related to milk collection against
density, some more parameters arealso followed to check the purity, my
experience dates back to 2003.

Edit3: Taste may vary region wise as milk quality is different indifferent
states’ cattle.

Edit 4: I agree taste may differ due to injections being given tocattle.

Edit5: Few more co-operatives arereplicating this system in different states,
but Amul is a pioneer and examplesetter and available Pan India.

Edit 6: Availability could be an issue atseveral places as some regional
players’ distributors don’t take interest inAmul distribution due to low
margins, that’s the reason forunavailability in several regions.

Edit7: Adulteration since procurement toproduct packaging is not possible at
Amul, later after reaching the marketlocal competitors may devise ways to
adulterate to affect the sales and brand valuedue to competition but I have no
evidence and not sure.

Q3         Whydo pilots not seem afraid when landing their planes?

A3         James Marshall, Private pilot, New Zealand, 2010Updated Jun19

Landing an aircraft has been described bysome people as a "controlled crash".

You don't fly onto the runway as much as you stop flying just over
therunway. You basically lower the aircraft bit by bit until you are almost on
the runway, reduce power to idle, then at the last moment you change the angle
of the wingsby raising the nose of the aircraft to break the last of the lift
holding youin the air, so hopefullyyour main landing wheels touch down
comfortably, then you hold the remainingpressure on the yoke and let the nose
wheel gradually lower on its own.

A lot can go wrong. A lot of accidents occur duringthe take off or landing
phases of flight. The aircraft is in the danger zone:low and slow. That means
the risk of stalling the aircraft is high. Cross-windsor low level turbulence
can be challenging. Judging distances can be difficult. Everything happensquite
quickly. You are trying to keep wings level and manage yourspeed. As you
getcloser to the runway you realise just how fast you are actually going. As
aresult, it is not uncommon to feel the adrenalin pumping as you land.

Landing an aircraft is always exhilarating and intense, but since you arehighly
trained in how to do it, it is nothing to fear.

Q4         Whydid Lord Krishna break his flute, and how did Radha die?

A4         Santosh Kumar Sahoo, Author General knowledge Books Mar 27

When Krishna saw Radha, he wasvery happy. Both talked to each other for a long
time. However, nobody knew Radha inDwarka. She requested Krishna to appoint her
as a Devika in the palace.

Radha lived in the palacethroughout the day and as soon as she got the chance,
she used to see Krishna. But in the palace, Radha could not feel the spiritual
connection withLord Krishna like before. So Radha decided to go away from the
palacewith the aim to establish a deep spiritual relationship with Shri Krishna.

Radha did not know where she was going and iscompletely lonely and weak in her
last days. Lord Shri Krishna came in front of them in the last time. Krishna
told Radha that he demanded something from her, but Radharefused. On the
request of Krishna again, Radha said that she wants to see herplaying flute for
the last time. Sri Krishna took a flute and started playing in a veryharmonious
tune.

Shri Krishna played flute day and nightuntil Radha took her last breathe and
merged with Krishna in a spiritual way. Radha abandoned her body while
listening to the tunes of the flute.

Lord Krishna could not bear Radha's death andbroke his flute as a symbolic
ending of love and threw it into the bush. Sincethen, Sri Krishna has not
played the flute or any other instrument of life.

Q5         Whenwe set the AC temperature to 24 degrees Celsius, we feel too
much cold, butwhen the normal temperature is 24 degree Celsius we can tolerate
it. Why so?

A5         Prasanna Bhalerao, M. Sc. in Electronics & Physics,Fergusson
College, Pune Updated 2y

Ah! The common misunderstanding!

The AC has two modes - coolingmode and fan mode. TheAC also has a thermostat on
the cooling coil that measures room temperature.

What is the common misunderstanding? It is that mostbelieve that when the AC is
set at 24° C, the air blowing out (during thecooling cycle) is at 24° C. Thisis
not true. Regardlessof whatever the temperature set on the AC, be it anything
from 18° C to 28° C,the temperature of the blowing air is the same.

Not convinced? If you have a roomthermometer, hold it against the blowing air
and verify. The blowing air isreally chilly when the compressor is ON. It would
be as cold as 16~18° C, maybelower in more powerful and large ACs.

The AC sucks in room air over the coolingcoils and cools it. It blows this cold
air out in the room. The thermostatmeasures the incoming room air temperature.
When the thermostat senses that theset temperature is reached, it shuts off the
compressor and the fan/blowerremains in operation.

Even then this does not mean that room hasreached the set temperature (say 26°
C). This is because the AC sucks the air nearthe AC and that could be at 26°
C.Thethermostat does have some calibration to compensate for this. However,
near the AC is cold, away from the AC is not so cold.

When we are in an AC environment, if wehappen to be in the path of the direct
draft, the very chill air blows on usand makes us feel much cold.
