PAPER Dear friends,
Today I was entering the blood sugar (PP) reading inthe unused one side A4 size Xerox paper. Normally I keep one side used A4 sizepaper in a writing pad fitted with clip for grip. These papers are used by me notonly for this purpose, but also for many other purposes. Paper is considered Goddess Saraswathi, and one has to use it maximumpossible. Wasting paper is insulting the Goddess. Nostalgic and interesting look in to paper. Hope aninteresting reading with some information. Gopalakrishnan 28-10-23. 1. Rough Book. >From middle school days to college days, all studentsof the current aged >people generation might have made rough book. The roughbook was prepared, >tearing the balance pages from the note books, used in theprevious year in >school/college and stitching and binding. Rough book was taken every day, and notes were writtenin it of any subject of which note book was not taken. After coming home it wascopied to respective note book. Though double work,by doing so the note taken must be through with the student. Now from stationery stores “rough note pad” isavailable. Most use them. Normally semi-permanent information is noted init. If at all a student requires a roughbook now, he will purchase a new notebook and call it rough book. 2 Note books. Though note books could be purchased from stationeryshops, many used to make them at home. Some persons were experts in note book making. This was cheaper. On those days money was scarce and even one paisa was important. After notebookpreparation the three sides excluding stitching were made perfect by localcarpenter using his broad chisel. If lines were required it was made using a hand ruler and pencil. Scalefor making a line was for geometry class or for drawing, underline etc. by students. Now there are no persons making notebook at home.Readymade notebooks plain or with any type of ruling are available in allstationery shops. Consideringprice of other commodities stationery items are very normally priced. 3. News print. The quality of paper varied for news print. Once read, the newspaper is old. On those days therich only subscribed newspaper. Most read newspaper in the local libraryreading room. Colour printingwas not there in earlier days. We can see in the newspaper bottom, some large colour dots now. Newspapersprint four coloured dots at the bottom of the page called 'registration marks' toensure that the print is aligned properly. These CMYK (cyan, magenta, yellowand black) colours are the base colours used in printing. Now certain days we get polished paper slightly morethick than the other papers carrying advertisements that pay a lot. Magazines likeSrutivani also had some pages for the same purpose. Normally such papers are kept separate for home use.Remaining only disposed, once they accumulated. I recollect Film fare magazineis having such paper, more white than news paper. 4 Stamp paper The stamp paperis prepared using quality cellulose fiber, it must last generations. Stamppapers are sold by vendors and used for registration of properties, lands etc.For giving birth certificates, marriage certificates etc. one has to enclosefixed value stamp paper along with application. Nowadays in quality cellulose fiber paper, after therequired amount is paid in sub registrar office, certificate is issued. Still for general purposes stamp paper isavailable. 5 Postal stamppaper, postal registration covers, insurance covers, court fee stamps For these less quality cellulose fiber is used, sinceit is one time use. Here also nowadays, stamp is not used, instead amount iscollected and receipt is given in postal department. Court fee stamp is stillused. 6. Currency. Most banknotes are made from cotton paper with aweight of 80 to 90 grams per square meter. The cotton is sometimes mixed withlinen, abaca, or other textile fibers. 7. Writing paper Paper used to write differs in quality. Note books anddiaries are prepared using thin paper. But ink must not spread. 8. Xerox paper Xerox machines require thick quality paper. Now onthis account most shops have paper to this quality. When we ask for paper shopsnormally give Xerox quality paper. 9 Bond paper Bond papers are composed of about 20% to 100% cottonrag fiber. It is a high-quality paper that is widely used in various industriesdue to its versatility. Moreover, the material used in manufacturing bond paperrolls gives it more strength than the paper made from wood pulp. 10 Blotting paper. When ball point pens were not common, and ink pen wascommon, to avoid spread of ink it was pressed with blotting paper. Blottingpaper was held on a half circular wooden holder and it was rolled over thewriting. Now I think it is almost obsolete. Though many still use ink pen, chalk piece is spread if excess ink had fallen while writing to absorb it withoutspreading. 11. Drawing paper, blue print paper etc. These papers are large size quality papers. Normallylayout plans are prepared in blue print paper. 12. File coverpapers. Most offices still have a lot of files to keepapplications filed. Reply given etc. Though replies are printed in computer, copies are filed. Thick size file covers papers are used. >From stationery shops we get quality readymade files. They are used for >personal use or by large companies. 13. Wrapping paper As protection wrapping paper is used over text books, record books etc. Earlier wrapping paper was plane, now mostly it is waxed. 14. Gift coverpapers Very special waxed thin papers with attractiveprinting are available for this. 15. Decorationpapers These are very thin papers for one day use. These arevery thin papers in attractive colors. 16. Tissue paperand toilet papers Thin tissue paper is used to wipe hands. In westerncountries toilet papers are more used. However in star hotel in addition tohand wash toilet paper is provided in western type toilet. 17 Paper cups andplates Thick waxed paper is used to make paper cups andplastics. -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "Thatha_Patty" group.
