WRAPPER ANDCOVER

DEARFRIENDS,

I madea lot of search in the Google to find the exact usage of words wrapper
andcover. In many occasions the word wrapper is used in place of cover and
finallyI came to the one main difference - wrapper is tight covering. Whatever
it is my topic is aboutdifferent types of cover/ wrapper /container. Some
nostalgic memories are therein this posting in addition to some general
information.

1. Wax paper covering.

Manyof the products today available in stores are having beautiful covers
today.Examples are biscuit covers and toilet soap covers.  During my boyhood
days soaps like lifebuoyand Sunlight had very thin wrapper with waxed paper and
it was difficult topeel it out as a single piece. The washing soaps too had
such covers. Not muchimportance was given to beauty of such covers.

Earliersome biscuit packs had tight thin covering. And they were packed in
half/fulltins and delivered to shops. These half tins were very much in demand
and purchasedfrom shops and used in homes to keep rice/ sugar etc.

Barsoaps had thin printed covering. When detergent bars appeared they too
hadthough beautifully printed thin waxed paper covering. Now too they appear
so. Useof detergent bar  is still there in  homes to remove tough stains in
collars beforeputting in washing machine or with those not able to afford a
washing machine. Invillages the sales is more comparing to cities and towns.

Now gingercandy and groundnut candy comes in plastic transparent thin foils
wrappedaround them. There must be some reason, especially for ginger candy
wrapping inthat method. On search result I could get is it is tight wrapping,
not to get affected by weatherconditions. However when I go to purchase ginger
candy, I ask the shopworker to give the latest arrival. In supermarkets, they
become hard sometimeseven with air-conditioning. Groundnut candy is also
available as pieces looselypacked in plastic covers.

2. Attractive foil and thick papercovering.

Nowmost biscuits come in attractive aluminium foil covering. Some
specialbiscuits, cream biscuits, have in addition special inside foil packing.
Thereis stiff competition in the biscuit production field, and one of the few
itemswe get at very low price is biscuits. With hard board outer containers
though thebiscuit are tightly packed in cover, it is a luck a person gets
normal biscuitswithout breaking at least in the ends. Those with inner foils
breakage areslightly less.  Wafers have inner foilsand outer cover and their
prices are very high. I made a Google search for thehigher price of
wafers-Wafers,unlike other biscuits, are produced from a very fluid batter
which is bakedbetween heavy hot plates to produce thin sheets. Wafer offers a
uniquetextural eating experience. The crispness and lightness blend admirably
withsoft cream or chocolate.

Whyare wafers so expensive? It's merely due to theamount of work, care, and time
needed to create them. Wafers have to be asperfect as possible and reaching
that involves a very complex and detailedprocess.

Sweet shops.

Invariablysweet shops pack them with thin foil paper, and place them in
carton/plasticbox and deliver to us. This includes the sweet packs from
supermarkets also.

I readelsewhere the sweets are weighed after placing them in foil and
carton/plasticshops, and making charges of them are very less comparing to the
weight ofsweet of equivalent weight.

Higher profit

RecentlyI purchased insulin and other capsules from a nearby medical shop. I
requestedthem to place in a plastic bottle if available instead of paper packs.
With asmile the person put in an empty plastic bottle. Just like that I looked
at thebottle after reaching home. On top it was written additional 32 items of
the markedcontents are there. These 32 items sold gives additional profit to
the medicalshops. Always an addition is given for breakages and spills to the
distributer.Let it be milk or oil or solid items. Now many medicines in
capsule/ tabletform are packed in plastic THIN bottles.

Shops packing-a thing of the past?

Now mostitems come in packs of different quantities. These packs are very
attractive. To avoid spilling liquid items quality plastic covers are used. Days
ofweighing and giving by shop worker is limited to very few items comes in
large bottles/bags.Quality cashews, dry grapes, cloves etc. are packed and
given in shops. Bleachingpowder irrespective of the packing, again packed and
given.

Pouches

Liquiddetergents come in quality pouches with tight screwing arrangement.
Afterpurchasing we can transfer to old containers. Milk comes in pouches now
inIndia. Curd comes in pouches.

Thesame quality packing is there with Horlicks, Bonvitta etc. also in cartons.
Atight packing inside with foils and attractive cartons.

Medical shops and packing

Differentmedicines were packed in plastic covers earlier and now in paper bags.
Certainitems like women’s pads are especially packed a 2nd time and sold sothat
item will not be known to others.

Fruits and Vegetables

Theyare either supplied through thick bags or we can take in our bags. No
extracharging. But in super markets these thick bags are charged. Fruit shops
chargefor the bags along with the price of such items.
