Sri Narayanaswamy Sir, Pranams. Pl excuse me if you find this offensive and let me assure you my intention is not that BUT to put forth my views only- as I feel your views on the so called " brahmanas" should not go unanswered. Hope you will take this in that spirit. I don't normally respond to your posts as I know what to expect BUT Let me say what I have said below and hope any rebuttal will be in a civilized language and on the CONTENTS AND CONTENTS ONLY and do not get personal. I can only appeal but to heed it or not is your prerogative. I know nobody else here will have the courage or the inclination to argue against what you have written but I thought your views on the so called " brahmanas" needs a discussion. I know others will enjoy witnessing a good fight but will not enter the ring when we discuss a basic religious issue - typical selfish attitude of the "brahmanas". This is NOT a personal fight but fight for a principle and I hope readers will bear that in mind. I do not expect any response from anyone because it requires spine and courage and backbone to take up the gauntlet and to stand up against the mighty and powerful. Easy way is to escape and say "Oh, I don't discuss politics or religion" or any such nonsense and escape any responsibility. Be that as it may. It is one thing not to get involved in personal, mutual name calling but quite another when we discuss principles such as your calling our respected P M " Shudra" although I won't feel ashamed to be one such - so long as I earn my income and am not a a parasite on society. It will be interesting to note how many " brahmanas" take money from the so called " shudras" for a living. Now, First of all let us be clear that there is hardly any "brahmana" today - we are all Vaishyas - the moment we started selling our services for money we ceased to be brahmanas. Apart from what we all know of the duties of a " brahmana" like Study Vedas Teach Vedas Do Yagnas Help others in doing Yagnas Etc. I have also read that the other four basic duties of a "brahmana" are: " Snanam Sandhyo Japo Homa Divadhanam sa Pujanam Adityam Vaiswadeyam Shutkarmani Dine Dine" Meaning Snanam, Sandhyai, Japam, Homam (for brahmachatis Samitha Dhanam and for Grahastas Oupasanam) Devatha Pooja - Feeding those who visit you after performing Vaichvadeava Karma. Every Day. By these definitions I know I am not qualified but wonder how many others are there who can say HONESTLY they do all these DAILY. It has also been added here that " Brahmanayasya Thudhe Hoyam Nopa Bokaya Kalpathe Iha Klesaya Mahate Prethyanastha Sukaday sa" Meaning A " Brahmana" is not born to enjoy the material and physical comforts of this world BUT To suffer physically to do Tapas and other Dharma karmas for the welfare of the world AND NOT for selfish gains. I have read this in a booklet distributed several years ago when I attended a Yagna - I don't know Sanskrit but read it in Tamizh. I know first hand that the Kanchi Maha Swamigal refused to give " Theertham" to any " brahmana" who went abroad - and this includes Kalki Sadasivam. Kanchi Swamigal did not take it as a right thing for a " brahmana" to cross the seas and here also I stand disqualified as I lived abroad. You may differ and that is your right. He also advised all the " brahmanas" at least in the earlier periods, to have " Sikai" meaning " kudumi". He strongly advocated against wearing silk sarees- Pattu pudavais and others - I have not worn them for the last 3 decades and also refused to buy a silk dhoti during the marriage of my only son even it meant incurring the disclosure of so many relatives and friends. Kanchi Swamigal said to prepare one silk saree thousands of silk worms are put in BOILED WATER to extract silk. If you care to read Cho Sir's " Enge Brahmanan" you will agree that there is not a single, repeat single brahmin today - such are the rigours of a brahminical way of life. I was particularly aghast that you derided Modi ji. But for him, Yogi ji and the countless Kar Sevaks, Ram Temple would have remained a pipedream. I bow and touch their feet with my head for their services to our religion, traditions and culture. It is easy to be an arm chair critic but what else have we done to even utter their names? Fasting for 11 days with only coconut water and observing other austerities need to be respected and not ridiculed. Modi ji fasts for the whole day during the Navratri festibal and breaks it only for dinner and even Obama has seen this and admired him. 1. Traditions vary across the country but what unites us is the common Faith that is Sanatana Dharma. So what is right for them they are entitled to do and we have no right to comment on their practices as we will do here what we consider right. 2. What did these our so called " Brahmanas" do for 500 years? Did they even lift their little finger? What sect Modi ji belongs to is none of my and should be none of anyone's concern. He is OUR P M and has done us proud. Anyone who lives abroad like I do, would have witnessed the enormous respect we Indians have gained during the last 9 years. 3. In the North they follow their customs and practices and none of us, who never contributed to the struggle ( unlike thousands of Kar Sevaks who paid for it with their lives) have any moral right to even prostrate before them, leave alone criticize them. 4. If we can't be grateful, let us at least refrain from passing hurting, insulting remarks. 5. Modi ji and Yogi ji are the CHOSEN ONES and I bow my head in gratitude and reverence to them. 6. Just as an aside, we have seen how our so called " Brahmanas" have conducted themselves when both Pujya Shree Vijayendra Saraswathi Swamiji And Actress Nayan Dhara visited to have Darshan of Atthi Varadar at Kanchipuram. Thd less said the better as it is shameful to describe it here. Krishna in the B G has said that what matters to Him is BHAKTHI AND BHAKTHI ALONE and this had been proved in various episodes of " Thiruvilayadal Puranams" also. Leave alone Kannappa Nayanar, haven't we studied about Pusalar Nayanar? Sir, It is these so called " brahmanas" who have sold their souls when they appear on tv shows deriding our P M, Bharat and its culture. They even argued and still argue against Ram Temple. 1,000 years of slavery has made us " brahmanas" selfish- that somehow if we are treated as the first amongst the slaves and get our crumbs and power over other fellow slaves, we feel satisfied. ICS is a classic example. We helped the invaders rule Bharat for a few Sirs Rt. Honourables Rao Bahadurs Diwan Bahadurs And other such Titles and the crumbs that came with them. That is how we allowed ourselves to be divided and ruled. Let us not commit that unpardonable sin again but instead seek redemption, if we can. Sorry Sir, my intention is not to show disrespect ( I have been brought up to show respect even to my opponents but not to compromise on my core beliefs and values) but only to express my views which unfortunately do not match yours. I have attended and participated in various temple kumbaabhishegams and in installations and re-installations of vigrahams. So, I can safely say from past experience that the entire ceremony of praana prathishta, shodashopachaara pooja, and subsequent rites at Ayodhya was a mockery of tradition, a violation of agama rules, and a desecration of sanctity. First, the 130-cm tall black stone moola vigraham of Sree Raama (without his consort Seetha Devi) but holding a golden bow in his left hand and a golden arrow in his right hand, had its eyes staring upwards towards the sky as if seeking the blessings of a higher Supreme Being such as Aadi Paraashakthi. It was not looking straight ahead at the horizon to see the rising Sun at the east, as is normal. It was not looking downwards at the multitudes of devout worshippers either. Second, there was no inclusion in the rites, rituals and ceremonies for a portable upa vigraham for carrying the god in procession through the streets on occasions like Sree Raama Navami, Vaikunta ekaadashi, vaikaashi-vishaakam, and so on. Third, the so-called praana prathishta of the moola vigraham was a grand public display of defiance of orthodoxy. The normal procedure would be for competent braahmanas trained and experienced in the ritual to infuse the spirit of the deity into theertham contained in duly decorated brass vessels, carry the vessels in procession around the temple clockwise, chanting appropriate manthrams, and then pouring the consecrated theertham ceremoniously over the head of the vigraham to transfer on to it the praana, again chanting the prescribed manthrams. Fourth, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, a confirmed shoodran, was instead seen performing a parody of praana prathishta by sprinkling flowers, akshatha, and water on the foot of the statue. It was patently obvious that he had not been previously rehearsed about what to say or do during the various stages of the entire ceremony. Or he had completely forgotten. Fifth, even presuming that dhyaana-aavaahanam was done on the statue previously by baahmana purohithars, there was no paadyam, arkhyam, aachamanam, snaanam, vasthroththareeya dhaaranam, yajnyopaveetha dhaaranam, aabharana dhaaranam, parimala-gantha dhaaranam, kumkuma samarppanam, akshatha samarppanam, notional pushppa-maalikaa samarppanam, actual pushppa-archanaa-poojanam. Sixth, Modi was left holding the multiple-flame mangala deepam and circling it silently dozens of times in front of the statue, obviously without knowing what else to do. Seventh, for neiveidhyam, Modi offered a plate of fruits and a coconut with kudumi. No sign at all of the prescription paal-paayasam. Eighth, Modi did a single pradakshanam of the moola vigraham instead of the traditional three pradakshanams. He kept his mouth shut, as he had not been taught the appropriate manthrams for the circumambulation of the installed deity. Ninth, the most incongruous visible aspect of the whole charade was that, at all times, opposite to Modi, a white-whiskered, white-haired elderly man wearing a thick black Mao-type winter coat was simultaneously offering what appeared to be akshathas and flowers to the feet of the Sree Raama statue. Tenth, towards the end of the whole affair, Modi was seen receiving a kinnam of prasadams from one of the officiating assistants, and Modi offering dakshinas in similar kinnams to various "seers" sitting on the floor. *Altogether, a grand shambolic travesty of tradition, and a splendorous comedy of errors enacted on the world stage, with maximum publicity, under the glare of giant spotlights, for the entertainment of the cognoscenti among the viewers.* S Narayanaswamy Iyer -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "iyer123" group.
