atha krantham rati shrantam, abhi-mandana vaanchayaa…. |

Njjagäda madavam rädhäm mugdham, swaadina bhatrukaa ||

As He toyed with her love, Radha wanted Him to ornament her.



kuru yadu-nandana candana-shishira, tarena karena payodhare |

mruga-mada-patrakam atra mano-bhava, mangala-kalasha-sahodare ||1||

“Yadhu Nandana, Decorate me with your own hands in such a way that I become
completely infused with you. I am Krishnamayé. First of all, paint a row of
leaves in deer musk with your cool hand. Your touch is more refreshing than
sandalwood paste (chandana).”



nijagada sa yadu-nandane, kridati hrudaya-nandane

Nanda Nandane, Bhakta Chandane, Nijagadasa Yadunandane ||dhruvapada||||

Blissful Yadu Nandana, played to delight Radha’s heart.



ali-kula-bhañjana mañjanakam, rati-nayaka-sayaka-mochane |

tvad-adhara-chumbana-lambita-kajjalam, ujjvalaya priya locane, Nijagadasa
Yadunandane ||2||

“O my beloved, anoint my eyes with this fresh eye-liner, which excels the
splendour of a swarm of bumblebees. Kämadeva’s arrows fly from my sidelong
glance. The previous application of collyrium on my eyes has been smudged
off by the kissing of your lips.”



nayana-kuranga-taranga-vikasa,nirasa-kare shruti-mandale |

manasija-pasha-vilasa-dhare, subhage-vinivesaya kundale, Nijagadasa
Yadunandane ||3||

“My darling, who is best dressed with Pitathambhara, decorate my ears with
these ornaments, elegant as the trap of Kämadeva. My ears prevent the deer
of  my eyes from springing away. O delight of my heart, adorn my ears with
these ornaments that bewilder the hearts of young men.”



bhramara-chayam racha yanta mupari, ruciram suchiram mama shammukhe |

jita-kamale vimale parikarmaya, narma-janakam ala ka mukhe,Nijagadasa
Yadunandane ||4||

“My unblemished and pleasing face defeats the beauty of an immaculate lotus
flower. Braid my elegant tresses, or one might mistake my curls for
bumblebees which always lands on a lotus flower.”



mriga-mada-rasa-valitam lalitam, kuru tilaka malika-rajani-kare |

vihita-kalanka-kalam kamalanana, vishramita-shrama-shikare, Nijagadasa
Yadunandane ||5||

“O Kamalanana (lotus-faced one), the perspiration has stained my forehead
like the deer-shaped mark upon the moon. Please draw a beautiful tilaka
with this captivating musk upon the half-moon of my forehead. Krishna! you
are the central point of my good fortune – you are the tilaka on my
forehead”



ghana ruchire chikure kuru manada, manasija-dhvaja-chamare |

rati-galite lalite kusumani, shikhandi-shikhandaka-damare,Nijagadasa
Yadunandane ||6||

“O you who give respect to others (Manada), my hair,  is like the whisk of
Kämadeva’s flag. It is more captivating than the tail-feathers of a
peacock. Please decorate my hair with flower blossoms. May you become my
braid, woven with flowers, and diffuse it with your divine fragrance.”



sarasa-ghane jaghane mama sambara, darana-varana-kandare |

mani-rashana-vasana bharanani subhashaya vasaya sundare, Nijagadasa
Yadunandane ||7||

“O virtuous one, my heart’s delight! Your lotus hands are the abode of all
good fortune. Your heart, being full of rasa, is the root of all

auspiciousness. My entire being is yours, cober them with clothes and
ornaments.”



sri-jayadeva-rucira vasane, hrudayam sadayam kuru mandane |

hari-carana-smarana amruta-nirmita,kali-kalusha-dwaja-khandane, Nijagadasa
Yadunandane ||8||

Sri Jayadeva’s words bestow auspiciousness and bring immense joy to your
heart. They are the ambrosial memories of

Sri Hari’s lotus feet that vanquish the fever of impurities prominent in
the age of Kali.

racaya kucayo:, patram citram, kurushva kapolayo:

ghataya jaghane, känchi muncha-srajäm, kabari-bhare |

kalaya valaya-shreënim, pänau, pade kuru-nüpuräv

iti nigadita:, prita:, pitämbaro’pi, tathä kaarot ||9||

“Put color on my cheeks! Twine my braid with flowers! Fix rows of bangles
on my hands & jeweled anklets on my ankle.” Krishna, Pithambhara-dhari, was
pleased to do whatever Rädhä asked of Him. In the ultimate transformation
of Rädhä’s prema, she wants to immerse herself entirely in Krishna. She
desires to become Krishnamaya  – immersed in Krishna – by the touch of His
divine hands. Her heart is Krishna’s and her clothes and ornaments are all
Krishna.



tväma-präpya-mayi, svayam vara-paräm, kshiroda-tirodare…

shanke sundari, käla küta mapiban, bandò mridäni-pati: |

ittham pürva-kathäbhir anya-manasa:, vikshipya dakshon  chalam

rädhäyä: stana-koora kopari-milan-netro hari: pätuna: ||10||

“O beautiful one! When the Lord Shiva could not attain you on the shore of
milk ocean; bewildered by your beauty, he swallowed the deadly

kälaküta poison. Then you selected me to be your consort.”



paryanki-krita-näga-näyaka-phanä, shreni-maninäm gane

sankränta-pratibimba-sam valanayä, bibhrad-vibhu-prakriyäm… |

pädämbho-ruha-dhäri-väridhi-sutäm, akshäm didrikshu shatai:

käya-vyüham iva-carann, upacithi bhüto hari: pätu na: ||11||

He who has kept Shesha-räja, the chief of all serpents as His bed; whose
splendour is expanded as reflections in the jewels upon Shesha-räja’s
innumerable hoods;  Shesha, who desires to see him with thousands of eyes;
& whose lotus feet are eternally massaged by the goddess of fortune,
Mahalakshmi;  may that Sri Hari, who is abounding simultaneously in many
forms,  protect you all.



yad gändharva-kaläsu kaushalam, anudhyänam ca yad vaishnavam

yac shingära-viveka-tattva-mapi, yath-kävyeshu liläyitam |

tat sarvam jayadeva-pandita-kave:, krishnëai-katä-nätmana:

sänandä:, parishodha yantu sudhiya:, shri-géta-govindata: ||12||

“Jayadeva’s musical skill, vishnavam, his vision of reality, his graceful
play in these sarga’s , all show the great poet is in perfect tune with
Krishna-let blissful men of jnana purify the world by singing Gita Govinda”



sädhvi mädhvika, cintä na bhavati, bhavata: sharkare karkashäsi

dräkshe drakshyanti ke, tväm amruta mruta masi, kshirairam rasaste |

mäkanda kranda, käntä-dhara dharani talam, gaccha yacchanti bhävam

yävac shringära,säras swatha miha, jayadevasya vishwa gachamsi ||13||

“Hey powerful wine! Do not think you are so intoxicating. Hey sugar! You
are too harsh. Hey grapes! Who will look at you? Hey nectar (amåta)! You
are like death (måta). Hey milk! You taste like water. Hey ripe mango! Now
go and weep. Hey lips of a beautiful woman! Now you have no place to go. As
long as the complete essence of erotic love exists in the form of the
auspicious, artful composition of Sri Jayadeva, those who are expert in
relishing the rasa of this poetry do not experience any sweetness in you.”

paräsharädi-priya-bandhu-kanthe,

Sri-Gita-Govinda-kavitvam astu||14||



“May this unprecedented picture of rasa leela continue to be beautified
eternally in the hearts of the devotees. May Sri Gita-govinda become their
beloved, more beloved and most beloved all-inclusive life’s breath for
awakening their remembrance of Sri Krishna, the embodiment of rasa.”
