A1 SavasAbdulhamid Cicekci, PhD in Sociology & Socialpsychology, University ofTübingen Updated 2y When the children passed an old house on their wayhome from school, theywere always rubbing their sticks on the balcony railing and enjoying thesound. The older owner, who had been bothered by the noise for a long time, hada really good idea instead of scolding the kids. He called the children over to him: "Children, the noise you make sounds very nice, I'll give you a pound a day if you keep going like this."So he gave the kids a pound a day. In the second week he called the children over again:"Children, my money is scarce, I can only give you fifty pence, not a pound." Now three weeks had passed and the old man called thechildren over to him for the last time: "Children, unfortunately I have no money, so I can't give youany more." The children: "No money, no noise" and so they stoppedrubbing the sticks on the balcony railing. (Authorunknown) Q2 Whatis an interesting story about football? A3 PulkitKhanna,22 years of birth, 8036 days of experience 6y “Love marriages are not allowed in our culture!” said Radha’s father. Radha was a medical student in Delhi University. Shemet Rohit there. Rohit was her lab partner, they eventually fell inlove and decided to get married. Rohit and Radha graduated and both of them got a job. When they reached their marriagable age they toldtheir parents about each other. Rohit’s parents agreed and accepted Radha without anyconditions. But Radha’s father was against love marriages, everyone in his family married people who the temple priest suggested.( Biodatas of people who want a partner along with the qualities they are seekingare submitted in the temple where the priest suggest people looking at thedetails) “You’ll get married from the temple only” her father said. He evenrefused to meet Rohit once. Radha decided to go with her dad. She met 2–3 boys through temple and finally agreed tomarry one. She got married. Her dad was happy. She uploaded a picture on face book with her husbandwith a caption, “ With my labpartner, with my life partner” [Yes she married Rohit.] When Radha told Rohit about her dad’s decision Rohitasked her the name of the temple they are giving her bio data, Rohit gave his bio data in thesame temple and for qualities he wrote everything about Radha, the priest madethem meet due to same profession and qualities. Instead runningaway and getting married, instead fighting with her Dad, Radha got married withher lover. Smartway to fight the traditional thinking of the society, her Dad later acceptedRohit. This is a truestory. Just heard they are now parents to twins. Q4 Whatis the greatest April Fool’s prank you’ve ever experienced? A4 VijayaLakshmi,Have experience in life for 68 years.4y This incident occurred a few months after I joinedCIL....in 1982-83.. Our head of the department (let us call him HOD) wasa strict person and was always very serious. He rarelylaughed, just once in a month. When he was angry he did not hesitate to say whateverthat came to his mind, without thinking about the feelings of the listener. My note- We see such persons not rare everywhere, Once one of our colleagues, let us call him Rajiv, committed a mistake in his work and HOD called him to his chamber. “This is not amistake! It is blunder! Utter blunder!” all of us could hear the shouts of theHOD because he never closed the door of his chamber. “I think all the fools in the world are selected and dumped on my head” he continued. “If youcontinue to work in this way, I am going to give you a suspension order!Blah...blah...blah...” The high pitched scolding went on for half an hour. Rajiv came out of the chamber with a sullen face, cursing the HOD silently.Ultimately he corrected the mistake within a day andsubmitted his work. Fast forward one week... The office attendant with a paper in one hand and thedispatch register in another hand came to Rajiv’s seat. “Sir, a memo for you” he said handing over the paper (memo) to Rajiv. Hetook Rajiv’s signature in the dispatch register and left. Now everybody became very curious because receiving amemo is very rare and shameful too. After reading the memo Rajiv’s face became pale. Hecrumpled the paper and hit it hard on the ground. Many people got up from their seats and surroundedhis table. “What happened?” somebody asked. “That*****(using a cuss word) has really got me suspended” he said angrily. “What? But yourectified your mistake the next day right?” “Let me see the letter” someoneelse said. They picked up the crumpled paper from the floor andstarted reading. It got circulated from one hand to other. It was an official letter with usual format like letternumber, date, subject, reference etc. It read somewhat like this: “Since you arecommitting mistakes frequently in your work, the suspension committee hasdecided to suspend you from work for one week....” Everything was official with the signature of HOD andan office stamp. (Now let metell you something. If someone is suspended from work even for a week, it wouldbe a big stain on his career). While everybody was silently cursing the HOD, he came outfrom his chamber and walked straight to Rajiv’s table. “So, did youreceive the memo?” he asked very seriously. “But sir whatgrave mistakes have I committed? Even if I committed some, I have alwaysrectified them” “I did this, so that others will learn a lesson fromthis memo” he said still seriously. “Butsir......” “Wait! Did you notice the letternumber?” HOD asked. For every official letter there would be a numberwith a combination of many strings, numbers and special characters. Nobodybothers about that number while reading a letter. The letter number is only forreference. Rajiv opened the letter and read the letter numberloudly It was somewhat like this: “Coal-India/Finance/Bill-Section/April Fool/20197 dated01/04/****” On hearing thateverybody including Rajiv laughed loudly. The desk calendar on his table showed the date as1st April. HOD also laughed loudly fulfilling his quota of thatmonth. “This man isreally unpredictable” Rajiv muttered after the HOD had returned to his chamber. Endof all fools day story! My note- After 10 days April fool day iscoming please Q5 Whatis the most British thing ever? A5 AndrewWiltshire,Retired School Teacher and global Traveller Updated 2y I arrived at a very old and very prestigious schoolfor a job interview as a teacher. The first thing I thought upon arrival was “Oh my God! This place is wayoutside my comfort zone.” It looked just so venerable and posh. Much ofthe building was Tudor (1547ish) and extensively re-modelled in Victoriangothic. It was imposing and intimidating as a potential workplace. But then I walked into the school office andReception and there on the Reception desk was a letter “In-Tray” with a huge ginger Tom Cat curled upalseep in it. I thought that “only in a very old, very British, veryeccentric school that was very sure of itself would a cat be sleeping in theReception Desk in-tray.” The cat was called Henry and he had the run of thewhole school and everyone loved him. Anyway, I got the job and was ringing round variouscompanies to acquire new equipment for my Technology lab. One company I wished to usehad no supply contract with the school and so I was asked by theirrepresentative on the phone to set up a credit account. The conversation wentlike this: “We will needsome business credentials for your company in order to set up the creditaccount” “Yes ofcourse; what do you need to know?” “Firstly, howlong has your business be operating?” “Four hundred and seventy-five years” “Ah. I don’t thinkthere will be any problem setting you up with a credit account”. -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "Thatha_Patty" group.
