Namaste.A doubt: Today is Shree Rama Navami. Navami means the ninth phase of
the Moon. We call it thithi,the Sanskrit name for date. It is said that the Sun
was [ Utcham] exalted andso was the Venus, Jupiter. The Sun is exalted in the
Mesha Rasi[ the Aeries].The Newmoon occurs on one of these Nakshtrams viz
Ashvathi, Bharani , Karthikai[ in the month of Medam]. Punarvasu/ Punartham is
the Nakshtram of Lord Rama.It is the seventh Nakshtram but the thithi is Navami
[ 9th]. Ninedays after the Newmoon. Then the Sun cannot be in Medam. You may
see. TheNewmoon was on 8th April [ Meenam ]. The length of a nakshtram is 24
hrs and a thithi is 24 hrs.There can be slight variation but not to this
extent. So if we work backwardfrom Punarvasu, the Starting nakshtram must be
Uthrattathi. Then both thethithi and Nakshtram satisfy the condition.
Uthrattathi is in Meena Rasi.
