Q1         Are Sindhis baniye?

A1       Siddhant Pamnani       ,Works at NASCAR6y

All theHindu Sindhis left their caste system when they started their lives
fromscratch in the new land. No Brahmins, Kshatriya, Vaishya. Only Sindhis.

But beforePartition. Amils and Bhaibands formed the majority of the population
followedby Rajputs. A Sindhi Baniya is something i haven’t heard in a long long
time.

Q2         What is the current situation ofBrahmins in India?

A2          Goutham R,Lives in Bengaluru,Karnataka, India 5y

I am aKannada speaking Smartha Brahmin from Karnataka. Our native is
Mysuru, currently living in Bengaluru. My answer is strictly from
Karnataka'sperspective. I have many Brahmin friends from all parts of Karnataka
likecoastal, North West and North East. To be very honest and frank, there is
NOBRAHMIN BASHING OR HATRED at all in Karnataka. I have always felt this and
Igot the same opinion from my friends also.

I am veryproud of my state and my state's people for this reason. There is no
history ofAnti-Brahmin movement here at all even when the same happened in
ourneighbouring states like Tamil Nadu and Maharashtra. That effect could be
feltin our state. We know many Tamil Brahmins settled in Bengaluru, Mysuru
regionwho migrated from TN during Dravidian movement. In fact Malleshwaram area
wascreated for this purpose only. Even today the area has
significantIyer/Iyengars population. There are many like that in Mysuru too who
settledthere because of Wodeyar's rule.

There areabsolutely no community or groups or even political parties in
Karnataka whichspreads venom against Brahmins. All live peacefully here. It
reminds a linefrom our state anthem written by Kuvempu 'sarvajanangada shantiya
toTa', whichmeans Karnataka is a peaceful garden for every community/religion.

There wasnever a history of hate speeches against Brahmins by any political
parties, nobody says anything bad in any speech or election rallies too. There
are vey, very few exceptions, but nobody takes them seriously. We can see
bothpoliticians and people from all communities visiting various Brahmins
Mathaslike Sringeri, Udupi, Mantralaya, Melukote etc. Nobody has any
reservation. This is the level of acceptance and tolerance here. Also since
reservation inKA is less than 50%, situation is a lot better here compared to
few stateswhich has reservation upto 60 or 70%. Here there is no such ecosystem
whereBrahmins are targeted. They are not targeted in
schools/colleges/universities/officesetc. They are respected like any other
individual or community.

I amextremely proud to say that no caste/community targets or abuses Brahmins
andvice versa is also true. Brahmins also don't dominate here. Domination is
noway good to the society, co-existence and mutual harmony is what is
importantand that can be found in Karnataka.

This is thereason why Kannada Brahmins never migrated out of state. Only few
familiesmigrated to TN after the downfall of Vijayanagara empire, but that was
a completelydifferent scenario. But the reverse can be felt very easily.
Karnataka has alarge presence of Tamil, Telugu, Konkani, Marathi Brahmins who
had migrated indifferent timelines. Because of this, Karnataka has the highest
Brahminspopulation in South India.

HereBrahmins also worked for larger good of society instead of
creatinghierarchies. Also they were rooted to the idea of Kannada, Kanandiga
andKarnataka as much as to the idea of Bharata. This found acceptance from
otherKannadigas too, as even they thought in the same way.

I cannottell for the entire country, but definitely the situation of Brahmins
inKarnataka is definitely good and I really thank all Kannadigas from bottom
ofmy heart for this. Of course there are poor, middle class and rich people
likein any other community, but there was no hatred which was targeted at
them.Karnataka is blessed to have such people who know to live peacefully.

My note-I am settled  in Chennai for more than 19years now . I am highly
respected like other Brahmins in the area. Both Iyersand Iyengar lives in
Harmony. Nanganallur, Mylapore etc areas have moreBrahmins. There are  a lot of
DMK peoplein our area. They respect me and other Brahmins  very well. Most of
them visit temples.  I think the term disrespect by DMK to Brahminsis
exaggerated.

A5          Lynda Clarke,Apr 20

AnAmerican-Indian walks into a saloon with a shotgun in one hand and a
10-litrebucket of manure in the other:

The Indiansays to the bartender, "Me want Lager!"

Thebartender says, "Sure, Chief, coming right up." He then serves theIndian a
tall glass of Tennents Lager. The Indian drinks it down in one gulp, picks up
the bucket, throws the manure into the air and blasts it with theshotgun. He

Five dayslater, the Indian returns:
