Gratitude
Ennandri kondraarrkkum uyvundam, illai
Sei nandri kondra magarkku. (tirukkural)
Action received through to set right the trouble a person was facing is a
great thing; sei nandri; there are so many acts of other persons, in life
as a passing by action; even getting a cup of coffee, just a passing act,
for which, we say thank you. But such acts shall not also be forgotten.
However, in comparison Valluvar says, forget it, those trivial acts you
forgot; yet you can be redeemed; but there is no redemption for one who
forgot that lifesaving acts. The gratitude level is stressed in seven
words.
All our acts of GOD worship is nothing but thanking GOD for what we
are receiving and continue to exist. In kamya karma, we have to thank every
circumstance when we are at the receiving end. In Nishkamya karma, one is
acting through only GOD, as all our actions we are acting only representing
the Brahmam, so we are always expressing our gratitude. तमेव शरणं गच्छ

BG 18.62: Surrender exclusively unto Him with your whole being, O Bharat.
By His grace, you will attain perfect peace and the eternal abode.
We have received so many priceless gifts from the Lord. The earth that we
walk upon, the sunlight with which we see, the air that we breathe, and the
water that we drink, are all given to us by God. In fact, it is because of
him that we exist; he has brought us to life and imparted consciousness in
our soul. We are not paying him any tax in return, but we must at least
feel deeply indebted for all that he has given to us. This is the sentiment
of gratitude.
Gratitude, a simple yet profound emotion, holds the power to
transform our lives in remarkable ways. Defined as the quality of being
thankful and appreciative, gratitude goes beyond mere politeness; it is a
cornerstone of positive psychology and a catalyst for personal growth and
fulfilment.
Gratitude is more than just saying "thank you." It is a mindset, a way of
seeing and experiencing the world with appreciation and humility. When we
cultivate gratitude, we shift our focus from what is lacking in our lives
to what we already have and cherish. This shift in perspective not only
enhances our emotional well-being but also fosters resilience in the face
of adversity.
Research in psychology has consistently shown that gratitude has profound
effects on our mental health. Studies indicate that practicing gratitude
regularly can reduce stress, anxiety, and depression. By acknowledging the
good in our lives, we train our minds to stay grounded in the present
moment and cultivate a sense of contentment and inner peace.
Furthermore, gratitude strengthens our relationships and social
connections. When we express gratitude towards others, whether through
words or actions, we deepen our bonds and create a positive feedback loop
of kindness and appreciation. Grateful individuals are more empathetic and
compassionate, traits that are essential for building trust and nurturing
supportive communities.
On a personal level, gratitude serves as a powerful tool for personal
growth and self-improvement. It encourages mindfulness and reflection,
prompting us to savor life's pleasures and learn from its challenges. By
focusing on what we are grateful for, we develop a resilient mindset that
enables us to navigate life's ups and downs with grace and optimism.
Moreover, the practice of gratitude extends beyond individual benefits to
societal impacts. In a world often overshadowed by negativity and division,
gratitude promotes harmony and unity. It encourages us to celebrate
diversity, recognize the contributions of others, and work together towards
shared goals.
In short, gratitude is a transformative force that enriches our lives on
multiple levels. From enhancing our mental and emotional well-being to
strengthening our relationships and fostering personal growth, the practice
of gratitude offers profound benefits. As we cultivate gratitude in our
daily lives, we not only nurture a sense of appreciation for what we have
but also inspire kindness, empathy, and resilience in those around us. Let
us embrace gratitude as a guiding principle and celebrate its ability to
bring joy and fulfilment into our lives.
