MENTOR
A mentor typically fulfills seven key roles: teacher, sponsor, advisor,
agent, role model, coach, and confidante. These roles involve guidance,
advice, feedback, support, and serving as a role model to help the mentee
develop their skills and achieve their goals. We have from the Vedic Rishis
all the guidelines offered right from Ramayanam. And the best one is from
Anu sasana Parva of the Mahabhartham, where Dharma discusses so many
valuable things. However the best id Lord Krishna to Arjuna, in the
Bhagavat Gita. Ofcourse, as we see positivity in everything, yet, a
minority shameless, avivekis do exist in this world as negative mentor too,
who loose , all their merits as time reduces them to a nothingness. Now
lets see:
ஆவான் யார்?’ என, அன்பின் இறைஞ்சினான்;
‘தேவா! நின் கழல் சேவிக்க வந்தனென்;

Even Rama does not have the title of Perumal. Only two people
have it. One is the younger Perumal, Lakshman, and the other is Kuka
Perumal, Kukan. Kukan means the one who lives in the cave. He is of the
nature of loving Rama; he has a herd of elephants around him; he is the
leader of a thousand rivers; he is as high as the depth of the pure Ganga;
he has a dog as his companion in hunting; he has an army full of musical
instruments such as drums, blowing horns, and drums. (Kamba Ramayana
Song-Kukapadalam 9)
‘Who are you?’, asked this Guhan when met by Lakshmanan.
‘God! I have come to serve your cause; I am the hunter, I am the dog’ he
said. (Gangaipadalam 38:3-4) (Navai = Boat); He said, "I'm a slave like a
Dog." = He says, "He's as addicted as a dog." To this, Rama, so that his
mind would not be troubled, made him realize that he Rama, should spend
his exile in society as per the dharma, and said, "We will bathe in the
holy rivers, worship the holy sage there, and after the few days of exile,
we will come back to you happily." Rama said, "A few days" so that his mind
would not be troubled for fourteen years. Immediately, Rama said, "Kuga,
you are my life. My brother Lakshman is your brother, the beautiful Sita
is your relative, and this entire country surrounded by the cold sea is
yours." He also said that before seeing you, we were four siblings. Now,
with you, we have become five. Therefore, he lovingly orders you to go to
your home and protect your people. Just as my brother Bharat rules Ayodhya,
you should also rule your country, and your brother Lakshman will keep me
safe in the forest." It can be said that Rama, calling Guhan his brother,
further strengthened that relationship with this statement. Rama adds more
brothers later too in the Kishkinda kandam. Rama was a mentor to so many
both in the Valmiki as well as on dot Kamba Ramayanam.
II VALMIKI Ramayanam Ayodhya kandam sarga 21: “After hearing the
pathetic lamentation of his mother, he was highly anguished, as when a
lordly elephant is removed from its way by men with flames of fire. Rama,
who was established in righteousness, spoke these words endowed with
virtue, to his mother who was looking unconscious and to Lakshmana who was
disturbed and exhausted with distress. He was the only person worthy of
speaking thus at that time. "Oh, Lakshmana! I always know your devotion
towards me as well as your strength. But now, you are joining with mother
in afflicting much trouble to me without looking at my opinion. Oh,
Lakshmana! In obtaining the fruit of good works in the world, righteousness
utility and free will are given the importance. As a wife who is obedient,
who is beloved and who is having good sons, good work yields all these
three things. Only such an action, which is righteous (alone) is to be
undertaken, abstaining that in which wealth, desire and righteousness do
not find scope together. One who is interested in wealth alone becomes
indeed fit to be hated in the world. So also, the one whose very essence is
desire, cannot indeed be considered as good. When father, who is venerable,
a king and an old-aged, commands an action either by anger or by extreme
joy or by even desire, which right person will not perform it? Only a
person who chooses to be cruel will not do it. I cannot avoid fulfilling
the father's command completely. For both of us, he is an important person
indeed to command us. To mother Kausalya also, he is the husband, the
resource person and the personified law. While the righteous king Dasaratha
is alive and especially when he is following his own righteous path, how
the mother Kausalya can go out with me from here leaving the city like any
other widowed woman? Oh, mother the queen! Permit me to go to forest. As
Yayati returned to heaven by the power of truth, give me your power of
blessings so that I can return here after completion of exile. I cannot
keep back reputation and glory for the sake of kingdom alone. Through
unrighteousness today, I am not going to accept in any case the trivial
rulership of the earth, the life being of a short duration."
III Mahabhartham Bheeshma-Dharma in Anusasana Parva: O
Yudhishthira, Bhishma continued, I shall now tell you the duties for the
kshatriyas. A kshatriya should never beg, but should acquire wealth by
taxing the citizens. He should study the Vedas, but not engage in the
profession of teaching. He should offer protection to the citizens and put
forward his prowess on the field of battle. There is no higher duty for a
kshatriya than to protect the citizens. Gifts of charity, study of the
Vedas and performance of sacrifice bring prosperity to a king. A king
should engage all the subjects in their occupational duties according to
their order of life. If a King does not perform any other act other than
protect the citizens, he is regarded as successful in religious performance
and has carried out all duties of a kshatriya.
O Yudhisthira, Bhishma continued, a vaishya should give in charity, study
the Vedas, perform sacrifices and acquire wealth by fair means. A vaishya
should protect all animals especially the cow and the bull. These two are
the mother and father of all mankind. By protecting the cow, he will
achieve lasting prosperity. Grandfather Bhishma went on to explain the
Varnashrama system in more detail. He also explained in divisions, acts of
charity, the practical duties of a king and activities of salvation. Then
he briefly described the duties of women and devotees, both briefly and
extensively. Then he described the occupational duties of different orders
and statuses of life, citing instances from history, for he was himself
acquainted with the truth. While Bhishmadeva was describing occupational
duties, the sun's course ran into the northern hemisphere. This period is
described by mystics who die at their will.

BG 3.22: There is no duty for Me to do in all the three worlds, O Parth,
nor do I have anything to gain or attain. Yet, I am engaged in prescribed
duties.
6. Coach: Mentors provide constructive feedback, encouragement, and
support to help mentees improve their performance and achieve their goals.
They help mentees identify areas for development and provide guidance on
how to improve.
7. Confidante: Mentors serve as a trusted confidante, providing a safe
space for mentees to share their concerns, challenges, and aspirations.
This can involve listening to their thoughts and feelings, offering
emotional support, and helping them navigate difficult situations. naite
sṛtī pārtha jānan yogī muhyati kaścana tasmāt sarveṣu kāleṣu yoga-yukto

Although the devotees know these two paths, O Arjuna, they are never
bewildered. Therefore, be always fixed in devotion.

best developments to inculcate K Rajaram IRS 9525
