Hair Part Ten-Michel- Lestat walked around aimlessly and had a serious expression on his face. I don’t think that he ever did know that I was following him. God how I hated him! I really did, didn’t I? He was at fault for all my pain. I know he was. He uses everyone only for his personal enjoyment. Well I’m going to put an end to his abuses. I will kill the vampire Lestat! -Louis- I came round lying on the bed half-naked and with a headache that I knew no vampire should ever have. David and Marius were in deep discussion over some matter of controlling Lestat, while Armand held my hand in his and spoke to Daniel over the phone. Seeing that I was finally awake, he said his good byes and asked if I was okay. “Yes, Armand. Thank you.” “That bastard…I can not believe that he would hit you in your fragile state.” “You know how he can be. Besides it is my fault that he hit me.” Armand raised an eyebrow at this and David and Marius ceased their conversation. “Well, I sort of…well…blamed him for the shooting and then accused him of using us.” My voice fell silent and felt Armand let go of my hand. “Well that does put a new twist to things.” David fixed his hair. “Louis you should have known better than to do that.” Marius put his index finger under my chin and looked me in the eye. “I know, it’s just that….” Suddenly I heard a mental warning from Michel. “He’s going to kill….” Both Armand and Marius touched their temples as they heard a cry from Lestat. Armand’s face paled considerably and did not move an inch during the ordeal. David also froze and told me to look through the mortals mind to see what was happening. I was still weak, but fainted when I saw what that little bastard had done to my only husband. -Michel- I love controlling people. Maybe that is why Lestat and myself could never have lasted long. As Lestat proceeded in breaking my arm and leg so that I would not be able to escape, he also said that he wanted to talk to me and ask me why I had done such a stupid thing. Was he really that stupid? Laughing I tell him that I hate him. “You hate me? My dear little boy, it should be the other way around.” That is when he heard the clanging of guns being prepared to fire. Turning his face he sees the thirty people standing with various forms of guns, from automatics to the old fashioned one-barrels. “Do you actually think that you can you can kill me boy?” “Well, lets find out.” Telling them to fire I see the first bullet go through Lestat’s shoulder and then through mine. “This time we will burn together, father.” I hold him and the onslaught of raining bullets begin. Falling down I lose consciousness as does Lestat. Part Eleven-Louis- Waking up again I see that Armand has not taken this new turn of events lightly. All that I saw were people shooting Lestat and Michel, with no mercy what so ever. “I’m sorry Louis. I’m so sorry.” He wails and I refuse to believe what he is saying getting up, I walk to the parlor where I see David, Marius, Daniel, Gabrielle, and Pandora cry over a burnt person. Maharet steps in front of me, blocking my view of the being. “When we arrived it was already to late. I’m sorry.” She put her hand on my shoulder and led me to the being on the table. “No!” I shake my head. “This can not be.” “Those mortals that were shooting them, were programmed to do so. They used every bullet that they had and then covered their bodies with gasoline and lit them on fire. By that time, both were unconscious and did not feel the fire eating them away. Some also began to shoot after the fire had started, to speed up the process.” Maharet was the only one who could say this to me and not begin to cry. Armand walked into the room and hugged Marius for support. “I had received an earlier call from Marius and was already near the city when I heard Lestat’s cry. However, I got there a little to late it seems.” She looked at Marius and then at David. “Louis, I’m sorry. The damage is permanent and none of us can speed it. He will have to recover this on his own,” she paused, “underground.” Dawning that my newly wed lay there on the cold hard wood floor, the whole incident with Memnoch that he laid still for two whole years. “No, not again. No.” I touch the body and shiver as I feel only burnt leather. “What happened to Michel?” “He is over there.” Maharet points to the far right hand corner. Getting up I walk towards his body and pick up an ancient sword that Lestat used as a decoration. I swing it a few times and plunge it through Michel’ heart. Taking it out I proceeded to cut of his head but some one stops me. Maharet pulls the sword from my hands effortlessly and tells me to sit down. “There is nothing you can do Louis and stabbing that boys body will not solve anything.” “How long do you think it will take Lestat to recover?” Daniel asked in a low voice. “I don’t know Daniel. I really don’t know.” Picking up Lestat’s body she walks to the back door and gently places his body on the grass. Everyone slowly gets up and follows her, with Pandora picking up Michel’s body. David and Daniel begin to dig two holes for the bodies. They pick up Michel and place his body with out much care. If it had been to us that little bastard would have already died, but Maharet for some reason had insisted in him being buried instead. As they picked Lestat’ body I run back inside the house and get his wedding ring, neither of us wore it nightly and just put it beside our bouquet of flowers. Placing my ring on my finger I pick up the two items and head out, yet, seeing a pair of scissors I also pick that up and run back down to the funeral. Opening his burnt ring finger I placed his ring in it and have him hold our bouquet. Getting the scissors I cut a large piece of his hair and let them bury Lestat until god knows when. An hour must have passed with no one saying word, just remembering their times with Lestat and the ultimate happiness that he brought us all. “I got his hair.” I wave the piece around. “Look I got his hair.” I begin to tie his hair to mine and then begin to re-dig the ground. Marius and Armand pull me away from the hole and force me sit still. “But I have to give him back his hair. He will get mad if I don’t give him back his hair. Let me go.” I try unsuccessfully to pull away. “Please I have to give him back his hair.” I cry out loud. -Armand- “Louis he will not care about his hair. Don’t worry.” “No, he will. He loves his hair. I love his hair. Please let me give him his hair back.” I put my arms around his chest preventing him from getting up and doing anything. “Lestat I’ve got your hair, honey. You want it back don’t you. Lestat. LESSSTTTAAAT! LEEESSSTTTAAAT! I’ve got your hair…and there are pretty little jewels on it. See Armand, look at the jewels in his hair.” Louis looked at all of us absent mindedly and then back at the hair. “Look I have roses in my hair, he was so prefect. I love him and he loves me. I have to get back to Lestat, let me get back to him and tell him that Claudia loves him. I have to give him back his hair. He needs is hair. Please let me…Plleeeeaaasssseeee!” “Louis! Look at me Louis.” Maharet grabbed his shoulders. “Do you want to join Lestat.” “Who? I have a brother Paul that died by falling down the stairs. I have a little daughter that burned to a cinder. I have a husband that is buried underground and I am all alone with no one to love.” Louis begins to cry and play with his hair. “No, look it’s turning black. No don’t turn black, stay blonde. Please stop…make it stop!” I undo the loose knot and hand him the blonde piece of hair. “Thank you…oh how beautiful it is. Yes. Look at how it shines. ‘Till death do us part. Just like the sun. I do. The sun god himself….” Louis continued rambling and I could no longer take it. Getting up, I know that he will be buried beside Lestat and the two will sleep together. However, a hand is placed on my shoulder. Looking back I see Louis holding a pair of scissors and cuts I piece of my hair. “I’ve got your hair now.” Smiling he goes to everyone and does the same thing. Finally with all our hair, he cuts his hair and hands it to each of us. “So that you will not forget about me.” Gathering our hairs and Lestat’s he lays on the ground and closes his eyes. Maharet and Marius re-dig the hole that we had placed Lestat in and gently lower Louis’ body into it. Closing it, I see two of my closest friends be buried together. I never thought that Louis would ever go insane, but I guess that after two hundred and some odd years of pain it has finally got to him. “When they awake, all will be well.” Maharet quickly wiped her tears away. “I will stay here until they wake.” David said quickly. “They are dead to me until they rise again.” Looking at Daniel I hug him deeply. “I love you don’t you ever forget that.” I tell him and walk away forever from New Orleans until they awake. Part Twelve*Approximately 100 years pass* -David- We had to move their bodies after fifty years, because of the world war that threatened our home. Marius and numerous other vampires all came to New Orleans to prepare for the move to the northern part of Russia. It seemed that that was the only place in the world that was not being showered with bombs and the only place that would be safe for us. Everything that we feared seemed to be coming true, with the mortals killing the world and themselves. We placed them in a spacious room and felt that it would not take long for the three of them to wake up. Lestat was already recovered, and so was Michel. Yes, soon they would wake up and all would be well again. -Louis- I awoke disoriented and unaware of my surroundings. Looking down I see that I am clutching hair of various colours. Pushing it away I look down and see Lestat still sleeping. How long has it been, love? How long have we been sleeping together? I bend down and kiss his lips and just like the fairy tale, his eyes open up. “Louis?” His voice is hoarse. “Yes!” “Where am I?” “I don’t know, love.” Sitting up he looked at the bouquet of flowers in his hand and then at the ring and smiles as he remembers our past. “Oh Louis!” We hug and kiss until another moan is heard in the background. Looking we see that it is Michel and I feel Lestat tense up as he remembers what happened in those last hours. Getting up slowly, we walk to Michel and see him give a cry of worry as we approach him. “Hello.” Lestat starts. “Uhm, hi.” “I’m Lestat and this is Louis.” He waits for Michel’ reply but hears none. “And you are?” “I’m Michel.” “Nice to meet you.” He puts out his hand and Michel takes it for a handshake. Lestat then looks at me to do the same thing. Sitting down we look at each other and saying nothing. “I’m sorry for what I did to the two of you. I should not have tried to kill either of you.” “I’m sorry to the two of you. I should have been more understanding with you Louis, and I’m sorry to you Michel for treating you the way that I did.” “Well, I’m sorry that I was not responsive to you Lestat. And I forgive you for what you did. It is something that either of us would have done, had we been in your place.” Smiling Michel hugs me and begins to cry. “I forgive you too Michel.” Lestat hugs Michel and begins to cry. “I forgive you too Lestat.” “Thank the gods. You’re awake for the celebration.” David enters the room and runs to us. “Oh thank the gods.” He hugs us and looks at the door, where at least fifty other vampires enter the room. “What celebration?” I ask. “There has been a world war during your sleep, and it ended two days ago.” “Why do I always have to miss these world wars.” Lestat whined. “Take my word, you should be happy that you missed this war.” Daniel came over and hugged us. “I’m so happy that you’re back.” “So am I!” I walk to everyone and hug and kiss the vampires that are gathered there. Lestat is also doing the same, while Michel just stands and is unsure of what to do. Seeing this Lestat takes his hand and leads him to the coven. “Everyone this is Michel. Michel this is everyone.” Everyone looks at each other and is unsure of what to do, until Armand takes his hand and hugs him. “Nice to meet you Michel.” “Yeah, me too.” He smiles and sees everyone else come towards him for a welcoming. “Well, this is truly a celebration. Let us go upstairs for a drink.” Khayman tells us loudly. Going up the stairs Lestat kisses me on the cheek and plays with my hair. “Do you know that you have the most beautiful hair.” His whispers into my ear. “I know it’s even better than yours.” I laugh at my own reply. He too laughs and picks me up to carry me the rest of the way. Getting the cups filled with blood and some other things that I do not care at this moment, we raise our glasses.” “For eternity, for love, for peace, and for happiness.” Lestat declares and everyone repeats after him. “For eternity, for love, for peace, and for happiness.” THE END
