Yet, even with sophisticated cosmetics helping to keep us looking natural in the most severe light, it is still important to use foundation and concealers wisely. Concealers and foundations both work by covering up imperfections of the skin that we don't want people to see. The difference between concealers and foundations is really a matter of degrees. Foundations are designed to give all-over coverage while concealers are designed for use in small targeted areas, such as under the eyes or along the bridge of the nose. The color of concealer one should pick is really a counter-intuitive process. We would tend to think that, as with foundation, we should pick a color of concealer that is the same, or close to the color of your skin. This is not the case concealers have either green, yellow, pink or blue undertones and each is designed for a specific application. First, choose a concealer with a basic color that is at least a shade lighter than the foundation under which you will be applying it . The undertones on the concealer counteract the colors on your face that you are trying to conceal. If your skin is thin in the eye area and a bluish hue (which is venous blood) is visible through your skin you will need to pick a concealer that has a pale yellow or green undertone. The pale yellow or green balances the bluish hue and normalizes your skin tone. If you have a brown or reddish area that you are trying to hide use a light blue or pinkish concealer to balance out the brown/red tones in your skin. When you use concealer with the proper undertones and in a shade lighter than your foundation, your under eye circles will be greatly reduced. The lighter shade causes the skin around the eyes to appear brighter. Apply foundation up to the line of the concealer but do not apply the foundation over the concealer. Softly blend the line where the concealer and the foundation meet for a more natural look. Concealer and foundation can have a profound impact on your the dark circles, making your eyes appear fresh and youthful, but it is only cosmetic. In order to truly affect the condition of the skin around the eyes you will have to treat the eye area with preparations designed to actually regenerate the skin in the eye area. There are new cosmocuetical topical creams on the market that will actually work on the skin in the eye area, regenerating it and improving the tone, texture and overall appearance of the skin. They consist of combinations of peptides and vitamin K which are quite effective on eye area skin. One of the creams that the manufacturer states contains this Vitamin K / peptide combination is Eyederma(tm). This cream effectively combats dark circles and thinning skin around the eyes and helps to restore that youthful, fresh glow. EyedermaI(tm) is available from the Bodestore, http://www.bodestore.com and Amazon.com Whether you decide to conceal your dark circles or get rid of them entirely, the time to act is now. The longer you go without a resolution to the problem of dark skin under the eyes, the more time you are settling to look less than your best. --------------------------------------------------------------------- Written by the V-Team courtesy Kamau Austin Publisher.
