Britney Spears Could Use Lilies Of The Valley In Her Next Bridal Bouquet

As is the way with many Hollywood marriages, singer Britney
Spears' marriage to rapper Kevin Federline has come to an end.
So, Ms. Spears now finds herself "on the market" again and may
one day find herself walking down the aisle once again. If she
does, she may want to use the popular Lily of the Valley in her
bridal bouquet.

The Lily of the Valley, whose scientific name is convallaria
majalis, is most often used as a garden perennial, but has begun
to gain popularity as both a cut flower and in wedding bouquets.
It is a small plant, with stems growing only 15 to 30 centimeters
tall and having two leaves of 10 to 25 centimeters in length. The
flowers grow from the stems in groups of five to fifteen tiny,
white, bell-shaped flowers. The sweetly scented flowers bloom in
late spring. The plant also bears a small red berry.

The leaves and flowers of the Lily of the Valley are also used to
produce heart medications because they contain cardiac
glycosides. However, the plant can be poisonous to children and
pets, so great care should be taken to prevent accidental
ingestion.

The Lily of the Valley has also been called Our Lady's Tears
because of a beautiful legend that says the flower sprang from
Mary's tears as she wept at the foot of Jesus' cross. Another
legend holds that the flower bloomed from droplets of blood shed
by St. Leonard as he battled a dragon.

Another name the Lily of the Valley is often called is the May
Lily. This is because it is traditionally sold in the streets of
France on May 1. Other common names for the flower are:

 * Convallaria.
 * Convall-lily.
 * Lily Constancy
 * Ladder to Heaven.
 * Jacob's Ladder.
 * Male Lily.
 * Muguet.

The Lily of the Valley is a charming little flower that makes a
terrific accent flower to many kinds of arrangements. It also
provides a lovely, light scent. So, if Britney Spears does find
herself taking a trip down the aisle again, she may want to
consider adding this gorgeous flower with its beautiful
background legend to her bouquet.
