The main strip in South Lake Tahoe, includes various shops from art stores to the delicious restaurants. There is a putt putt golf course and tons of great dining opportunities. The lake is very calm, and it is perfect for wake boarding and tubing. There are different cruises and rentals for enjoying the lake. Gas in South Lake Tahoe is a little more expensive and the roads at times are a struggle as you go through mountains. But, if you drive around on the freeways in South Lake Tahoe, you will discover that they are all beautiful for the person who has an eye for the beauty of nature. In South Lake Tahoe, the best places to stay would be either in the beach rentals in Zephyr Cove on the Nevada side, or the base of Heavenly Mountain in the downtown area. The vacation rentals there are cheap and close to the mountain, plus you will be able to walk to the lift and go up the mountain, which is really a nice experience, during most times of the year. The gondola lift is pretty quick and the views from the summit of Heavenly Mountain are breath taking. The mountain is great for snowboarding and you can ride into either California or Nevada. The California run is the longest one, about 5.25 miles long and it takes you down a steep face in front of the Heavenly Base Mountain. There are many lifts that will take you up the mountain, but the gondola is the one that most people are familiar. The Ramada at the base of the lift is also very clean and the workers are always very courteous. The travel attractions to visit in South Lake Tahoe would be the lake of course. The mountains that surround South Lake Tahoe definitely deserve a visit, and trip to North Lake would also be enjoyable. The casinos are beautiful and there is always different fireworks displays or special deals for dining. Most of the vacation rentals and the beach rentals are located near the casinos, as well. The traffic can be bad during the winter with all of the tourists coming around, plus with the snow on the ground can sometimes be treacherous, but the state government does a pretty fine job at keeping the main roads clear of snow and ice. The nearby beaches such as Zephyr Cove and North Lake Tahoe are among the most beautiful in the northern California area. For those who are a bit more adventurous, there are plenty of bars and nightclubs in the area, but as you can imagine, the nightclubs at the casinos make it hard to consider going anywhere else. If you enjoy snowboarding or skiing, the Heavenly Mountain is definitely a place you will want to spend your winter. I recommend that when you visit South Lake Tahoe California that you stay at one of the many vacation rentals that are near the downtown area. The casinos are a great place to stay, but at times they can be very expensive and as any hotel room is, the hotel rooms aren't nearly as cozy and inviting. Many of those who visit South Lake Tahoe tend to stay at Harrah's Casino of South Lake Tahoe. The buffets there are cheap and have so many different choices. There is also Bill's Casino (which is also Nevada's only non-smoking casino), Harvey's Casino, Montbleu and Lake Side Inn. The bars usually offer great deals on drinks and the music in the clubs is always good. There is so many things to do in South Lake Tahoe, and if you are willing to leave the main strip, there are many parties that are often advertised online that are worth the cab fare to the location. Usually you can check CraigsList for any information that you may need about local parties in the Lake Tahoe area. There is also a local newspaper that showcases local events.
