Never thought I'd find myself agreeing with you, chief. But you're right. I don't think audiences knew what they had with Sky Captain. It was freaking brilliant.
Oh, and Speed Racer was a bomb because nothing about it looked appealing enough to coax people into paying $10+ to see it. Like most films today, unless you've got a 300 or Iron Man-level Wow Trailer (TM) that convinces people it's worthwhile to go, screw it--for the price of two tickets they'll own the DVD three months from now. Hell, I didn't give a damn about it until I watched the first ten minutes online and then realized it had potential. Speed Racer deserves huge points for giving us John Goodman fighting a ninja.
