Well, I could argue that there hasn't been an original idea in comics for
about twenty years now and that everything after 1980 or so is just
acceptable fan fiction, but that would just lead to this thread devolving
into an argument on that.

What I will say is that I have read books written by Winick that I enjoyed.
I liked his run on GREEN LANTERN.  I even liked his BATMAN run.  The problem
is that he does tend to ram homosexual characters down our throats and his
team books suffer from the Kevin Smith syndrome of everyone having the same
"voice".  Now there is nothing wrong with introducing characters into a book
that are of a particular religion, sexual persuasion or ethnic background,
but when it becomes your "move" then it becomes a distraction.  Frankly
Peter David had the same problem in the nineties but his writing skills were
enough that you noticed it and moved on.  With Winick it is OBVIOUS that
this is the most interesting thing about the character and I think his
writing suffers because of it.
