Oh yeah, the casting for Adrian was weak. That guy's accent or speech impediment made it difficult to understand him. He didn't have the right face and his build was a little too skinny.

I did a very brief review right after seeing it. http://tinyurl.com/b3rms7 Now with a few days to think on it, here are some additional thoughts. At first I wasn't thrilled with music. I felt like it was a little too in your face 80's. However, with some distance, I'm fine with it now. I agree with Pat that the montage showing the history of the Minutemen and Watchmen was brilliantly done! I also think the Silk Spectre actress did a great job. I'm not sure what people are complaining about with her acting. Think about it. You've got this girl that has been with Dr. Manhattan since she was 16. For the first time, she's on her own. Her enthusiasm and excitement isn't surprising to me (assuming people are griping about her upbeat personality). In regard to the ending, I think the movie ending works MUCH better. I've never been a fan of the "alien creature" ending, even going back to my first reading in the 80s. Hell, it even made his self-imposed exile to another galaxy much easier to sell to the audience. The use of the music selections in the soundtrack were excellent. I'm a sucker for pop-culture tracks in movies, and some of them were even directly out of the last panel quote from the issues themselves (ie All Along the Watchtower). It would have been nice to have some Elvis Costello in there, too (Watching the Detectives), but I was very pleased overall. My high and low points of the movie: Highs The opening montage with Dylan's Time's They Are A-Changin' was perfect, and managed to fill in so many sub-plot threads, even if they were only organzied as tableaus. When the elevator opens on Laurie at Rafael's, and 99 Luftballons is playing, her smile just beams from nowhere. What an amazing shot! It made me smile inside. For the crap that Malin Ackerman has been taking about her acting chops in this film, I believe her choice to play Laurie as less bitchy than the novel really worked better overall. Finally, the scene at the end with her and her mom. The line about forgiving Eddie "because he gave me you". *Sniff* I've got something in my eye... Couldn't help it- I've got a little girl. The casting overall (except Veidt) was spot-on. Low Points: Casting and portrayal of Adrian: meh- weak. Changing Rorshach to kill the kidnapper with the cleaver. Unnecessary. More thoughts later as the discussion ramps up.
