I couldn't agree more. I like the character well enough, and Brandon
Routh was better in the role than I gave him credit for at the time —
but is there a compelling Superman story that merits such a huge
investment? If not, why even bother? If DC-Warner Brothers just has to
do an origin tale, do one with a character whose back story hasn't
been done to death like, I dunno, Wonder Woman. I feel badly for any
filmmaker who attempts a project like this, because between the studio
and the fans griping about canon and continuity, it's practically a
losing battle. The fact that J.J. Abrams' "Star Trek" was as good as
it was popular is some kind of miracle.
