I had considered getting an iPad because my old laptop was so heavy (including the power brick almost 8 lbs), but opted for the Air when I found one on eBay ($820 including shipping for a model with the Geforce 9400M video card, core 2 duo processor and 120 gig HD. It's almost the same price as the 64 gig iPad, but offers a ton more (and is only a pound heavier). It does get warm where the processor is (back left corner) but I haven't used a laptop that doesn't heat up when it's taxed. At any rate it doesn't get nearly as hot as my Dell did (Speedfan clocked the GPU at up to 100 C during gaming before I got the cooling pad). Maria's M1330 gets toasty too, and it uses integrated graphics (she can't keep it on her lap during use). For school and general use, this is a great laptop. I hadn't used my Mini for much other than multimedia, so I really didn't have as good a feel for OSX as I had originally thought. It's a fantastic operating system. I got iWorks with it, and so far I've really preferred it to Office as well- I was able to make an illustrated tutorial to teach nurse aides how to do EKGs in a matter of minutes. I'm sure Office is more powerful (I haven't tried using their spreadsheet yet) but for typical stuff iWorks has been noticeably more intuitive. Lastly, I do think Apple is on the cutting edge with eliminating hardware again. I have an external DVD drive for the Air but have yet to use it. The only time I used the DVD drive on my Dell was to install Office. Digital media is so much easier to deal with.
