We've had a lot of discussion about the iPad here in the past and, as for my opinion, it's not for me. The way I see it, there are two forms of tablets on the market now. Tablets for just ereading and ones for computing. The tablet I am really looking at right now are the ereading tablets. Most of them are really too expensive for my pocketbook however I will be looking closely at the Borders Kobo when it comes out next month that will be selling for $150. As for computing tablets, if I had the extra money to burn (which I don't these days), I would probably buy the iPad just to have around. But I'm really actually waiting to see what will be done with the Android tablet. Having switched from iPhone to the Motorola Droid with Android, I am really impressed with the OS. If a manufacturer comes out with an affordable Android tablet in the next couple of years with good reviews I may buy that instead. I like an open platform and Android is much more open OS than the iPad.
