Re the Zahn Star Wars books-- I have first printings of those
hardcovers somewhere in my basement, though I'm sure they're all
beaten to hell and back.

I think they came out in 1991, which means that while it certainly did
*seem* like it had been over ten years, it had actually been eight
since "Return of the Jedi."

I liked them okay, but nothing Star Wars book related has for me ever
touched SPLINTER OF THE MIND'S EYE by Alan Dean Foster.

Speaking of Zahn-- and I mentioned this on FB the other day, but
probably only a couple of you saw it, so I'll repeat it 'cause it's
kind of funny-- he had a table right around the corner from mine at
ImagiCon in Birmingham in May. He's from Illinois, as is my wife, and
she *thought* that his brother was one of her high school science
teachers. So she told me to ask him if the teacher (whatever his name
is) was Tim's brother.

So I approached him and introduced myself and said, "My wife wants to
know if (whatever) is your brother." And even as I'm asking the
question, he's shaking his head and looking down and saying, "No,
no..." And then he blinks and looks up at me and says, "Wait-- who?"
And I repeated the name and he smiled and said, "Yeah, that's my
brother. Sorry-- I'm constantly being asked if Paula Zahn is my
sister and she's not, so I just automatically start saying 'no' when
asked if I'm related to someone."

I don't exactly know why, but that encounter oddly felt like a small
victory. Hah.
